Stayed the night in an olde worlde bedroom overlooking the harbour. It was wonderful. Beautiful meal in the restaurant. Had the $70 crayfish tail. Bigger and better than the tail I paid $140 for at Kaikoura. My petal had the fabulous blue cod.

The accommodation for a large group was great comfortable had everything and warm. Very close to town. Good area for a group barbie. But if you do need supplies avoid the 4 square ie bring your own as they are anti vax and I'm sure I got Covid from there. As it was the same time only place on the island where staff didn’t wear masks and. Came home with Covid.

Great location

View from the balcony was outstanding - just unfortunate that a fellow guest saw fit to tramp past all our rooms to get a photo from the end of the balcony. We were picked up from, and dropped off to, the flight office. Toiletries are very nice. Room was clean and well laid out.

We booked out all 3 amazingly cabins for a family excursion to Stewart Island for Easter. We were met off the ferry by Bill and transported to Anchorstone. Bill had arranged our bookings and suggested excursions. His local knowledge made our trip so much fun...we saw kiwis , caught and ate our catch and felt so well looked after. Glendaruel Bed & Breakfast

Glendaruel, nestled between Halfmoon Bay and Golden Bay, is ideally situated to help you maximise your time here. Overlooking Paterson Inlet and Ulva Island, it is bordered on two sides by uninterrupted vistas of native forest, alive with birdsong. The village of Oban on one side and the water taxis to Ulva Island Bird Sanctuary on the other are but a few minutes walk away.Glendaruel garden, a fusion of native and exotic plantings, extends over several levels and melds into the forest, which New Zealanders call ‘the bush’. The garden has featured in magazines (New Zealand Gardener, Weekend Gardener and My Home and Garden) and in the book, Great Gardens of New Zealand, by Derek Fell.Birds love it! Tui and kaka dispute the treetops, weka and, increasingly, kiwi patrol the paths. What a thrill it was when a Department of Conservation worker pointed out to me that a kiwi had left his/her calling card in the middle of one of my garden paths! As for me, I love gardening, kayaking, cooking, travelling and languages. Stewart Island has been a preferred holiday destination for almost all my life and my permanent home since 2000. Helping you to make the most of your time on this beautiful island is my focus. I meet you at the ferry or air terminal and take you back at the end of your stay.My Cairn terrier, MacPherson, enthusiastically joins me in extending A Hundred, Thousand Welcomes! and maintaining the special blend of Scottish and Kiwi hospitality that so many of Glendaruel’s guests have commented on.

The perfect escape :)

Reviewed By Shelali

Husband and i visited Stewart Island for a little over 5 days and we had a amazing experience. We resided at Glendaurel and Raylene was a amazing host. The B&B was a short walk to town and so close to the small walks that you could do during your stay there. We did the Rakiura track and Raylene always made sure that breakfast was available on time. She would communicate really well and would keep everything around very tidy and clean. She is super knowledgeable and was always happy to provide us with anything we were after during our stay. Her garden was just mind blowing and this outlooks onto a valley full of stewart island birds. So after a long day of doing all touristy stuff if you just wish to rest up or chill in then this is the place - with a beautiful collection of book in house - one can really not complaint :) thank you Raylene.
