In St. John's, the capital city of Antigua, farmers markets, candy- colored architecture and the ruins of sugar plantations vie for attention with a kaleidoscope of coral reefs and sailing adventures. Salute the white baroque towers of St. John's Cathedral that dominate the skyline before joining the flocks of cruise passengers on a Heritage Quay shopping excursion. To experience the island's early cultures, visit the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, housed in a 1750s colonial courthouse.

Amazing experience at Siboney

Reviewed By aartigosine

My husband and I spent 5 days at Siboney and the experience was nothing short of wonderful. We got excellent service from the front desk staff, especially Deandra and Joyette who we constantly interacted with, the housekeeping staff and the the restaurant. The location is ideal with the beach at your doorstep and many other restaurants and other activities in the area. We will definitely be returning to Antigua and Siboney again.

Sexy Hotel

I just returned from a 4 night stay at Hodges Bay! I had a fabulous time. The resort hosted my travel group of 150 plus people. The service was outstanding. The drinks were excellent. The view for breakfast was relaxing every morning to get your day started. The menus at the main restaurant change daily which is great so you don’t get bored with the same food options. My favorite place at the hotel hands down is Prickly Pear Island. The boat ride from the resort to the island is about 5-7 minutes. On the tiny island there are cabanas, and beach bar and lounge. The staff there is wonderful. I would like to give a special shout out to Jeffrey, the manager of the island. He went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed while I was there. I highly recommend Hodges Bay for your stay in Antigua.

Jumby Bay a Jumbo Disappointment

Reviewed By Joe Z

Jumby Bay is a fantastic hard product of natural beauty, spoiled by 3/4 star hotel and service. My wife and I stayed in mid April 2022 for a dual birthday vacation. Airport greeting and transfer worked well, however it was a steady decline following. I will detail our stay and the highlights and lowlights. Upon check in around 3:00pm we were informed that room would not be ready until 4:00pm, after a long day of traveling, I could understand but it was a bit frustrating (especially as we were pushed to check out by 11am and room wasn’t used the day / evening we left). Informed that only dinner available was a vegetarian buffet, however discovered through the lunch waiter we could order grilled fish and meat which we did as the vegetarian options were sparse and not all edible - it felt much like a cheap Sandals-style all you can eat - certainly not 5 star quality. The buffet was serving food that was meant to be hot, such as lasagna, cold (in chafing dishes with no heat source, sitting out for ages) and some of the cold food looked a bit dubious, suffice to say we special ordered an over-cooked mahi mahi and decided to call it a day (luckily our lunch waiter mentioned that, because the dinner staff had no idea about it). To compound issues, they ran out of Pinot Noir - the staff was too lazy to get some more from that estate house. Our evening was pleasant but we had to discover our shortest path to the room via walking vs bike riding or cart, again orientation was hurried and a theme throughout the stay was you needed to discover what is on offer and available, as the staff was not going to tell you. Breakfast was decent, especially as we learned to order off the “in room menu” at the restaurant from another disappointed group, not the restaurant menu. Again, this is not brought up - but if you figure it out - you’ll have a better experience and fresher food. Breakfast was probably the most consistent meal, only one day did the lose our order and we just gave up. Note, the Children’s quesadilla was surprisingly good and a nice option. Beach bar and staff and pool grill were the hardest working staff on the island. They genuinely cared and tried, though they admitted they were under staffed and over worked. The pool grill was a decent lunch, albeit very slow and 2 waitresses doing orders, drinks, bussing and servicing for about 30 tables. At one point we were helping ourselves and them - as we felt bad they were trying their best. Don’t anticipate much better quality then 3 star food here, but it’s convenient and a nice view. Spa experience - was a highlight and relaxing. On par with most 4-5 star experiences - but nothing over the top or memorable that we could not experience anywhere else. Balance of dinners were at Veranda and the Estate House. Veranda had a beach buffet which was awful, the music act was the highlight - but food was tired and nothing special. We came away with disappointment in terms of quality, variety and any lack of care. One highlight was we had to obtain our own wine - which we got scolded for but we were tired of waiting (over an hour since ordering it) - they didn’t protest much. Onto the Estate House, first night we waited over half an hour past our reservation despite open tables they had to stage due to short staffing. The food as others have said was the best - but not 5 star. The first night eating there they served tuna that was still frozen and had ice in the center - wasn’t fully cooked, we again called it a night. The second evening was better with an earlier seating and decent food. Drinks and wine were better - but by then, the dye had been cast on our dining experiences. Other notable points - reminder multiple times of my wife’s birthday which they claimed to have a special meal planned for, including the morning of, which never materialized - not a huge deal, but little things matter. You can tell the management just doesn’t care. Don’t anticipate clear explanation on what’s available or not, best too google and do your own research. Bizarrely our luggage was opened when it was out of our possession during checking in. We mentioned this, nothing was taken, we reported it, but it was odd. The house keeping walked in and continued entry despite my wife being in a state of undress and asking multiple times to come back later - they were insistent on giving her an Easter Egg desert. A litany of little and medium sized details and experiences that if you’ve been to 5 star hotels and resorts at this price point you notice. Jumby Bay simply doesn’t care and will charge you for the privilege of the stay, name and hard product. Candidly, there are far better, nicer parts of the world to stay at in this price point / no need to come back. As a final point, the departure was a scramble - poor communication on boat to car to airport and then a feeling of hands out for tips left a final bitter taste.

Fabulous!!

We stayed here for just under 2 weeks and absolutely loved it! The owner, Jackie, is wonderful and does so much for her guests. You mention something and she has it sorted - taxis, hire car, restaurant bookings etc. Jackie will happily help with all of them if you need it. It’s all very laid back at this lovely B&B (as is the whole island) so she’s there to help but never intrusive. Beach towels were available every day and if you take the shortcut then it’s only a 10 minute stroll to the closest beach (which has the little floating tiki bar on it as well as many other beach bars). If you take the shortcut then there’s also a number of places to eat within a 10-20 minute walk (or you can easily drive and park). Just take a look at Google maps to see the stretch of restaurants along the beach, but remember it will show the long walking route & the shortcut takes a lot off this. We enjoyed eating at Casa Roots & Salt Plage which are both nearby. We recommend hiring a car (Jackie organised this for us) for getting around the island and visiting lots of beautiful beaches & restaurants in different areas. We found this B&B to be a great base for exploring & very safe. You can easily park your hire car at the entrance as it’s on a side road with no passing cars. A huge supermarket is only a 5 minute drive away if you need it. Our room had everything we needed - great TV with lots of channels, hairdryer, iron & ironing board, decent wifi (free), fridge etc. Breakfast was really good! You get fresh local fruit & toast every morning included, with water/tea/coffee. You can then choose, if you want, to add extra on from the menu such as eggs (any way), bacon, savoury biscuits or pancakes. Everything we had at breakfast was delicious! We also opted for dinner on our first night which was brilliant! Jackie can most definitely cook. The terrace for breakfast/dinner also has a beautiful sea view :-) If you’re looking for a large resort then this obviously isn’t the place for you. It’s a fabulous, small B&B (I think it has 8 or 10 rooms?) and a home from home feel. Some guests were there for a week or more, some only one or two nights. Whatever length you need it for, we highly recommend it for your stay in Antigua if you’re looking for a B&B!

OK, but a bit hit and miss

Reviewed By Rhone_Man

Stayed in the Trade Winds for one night en route back from another Caribbean destination. Nice cool location on top of the hill, but not actually on the beach (a short shuttle ride away). Room was comfortable but small. Shower was decent. WiFi was a bit tricky to get to work, but fine once it was running. Food options at the hotel were a bit limited and pricey for what they were. Dinner was fine, but I didn't think lunch or breakfast were great value. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall it was fine enough - nothing to complain about, but equally, not so great as to be memorable.

This was our first holiday for two years and our first time to Antigua. Our stay couldn't have been better! Yepton Estate Cottages are the perfect place to relax and enjoy the island. The cottages are extremely clean, comfortable, and tranquil, with a lovely lake framing the view. Two beaches are within walking distance, ideal for a morning swim! St John's is a short drive and the rest of the island can be easily explored by car or taxi. Gabriela and Douglas are the perfect hosts - they provided a warm welcome with a cold drink and trip to the supermarket when we arrived, and then a brilliant chat about the island and its many interesting places to visit on our first morning. This really helped us to make the most of our time in Antigua. They are both so helpful and make you feel extremely welcome. This is simply one of the very best places to stay in Antigua! Many thanks and best wishes to Gabriela and Douglas for a perfect stay.

Great Value - Excellent Service

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Great budget facility in a good location for access to St Johns, made all the better by the excellent service of the owner Prince who went 'above and beyond' to assist us! The place was spotlessly clean, well run with good Covid-19 protocols and protections in place. There are some shared facilities that were limited due to Covid restrictions, but these did not detract from a great experience!.
