Mixed feelings

This was such a lovely place to stay but unfortuantely we were given a room right above the downstairs toilet and all you hear all night is the hand dryers. The place was let down by their restaurant. We had a three course meal and not to be dramatic it was the worst meal I have had in my life. I am not a fussy eater, for starters we had a fishcake which was like your average tesco bought fishcake with the worst tasting sauce i avoided eating anything it touched. Next we had the £28 steak with raw chips. The steak was cold, raw and fatty and the chips were hard and raw also. I fed the steak to the dogs and left the chips and i never leave food! Dessert was the cheeseboard with hard dry cheese whiting cheese and stale crackers so by this point i had enough so we stopped wasting our time and went to wetherspoons next door for dinner! Stay here to sleep just do not eat it's not worth the disappointment also the staff were just collected in one corner talking that night and i appreciate they weren't too busy but we had to keep leaving our table to walk and get them so hospitality was poor. On the flip side the morning staff and breakfast are a whole different story and nothing but pleasant. I also had a nice bit of carrot cake on the last day which i thoroughly enjoyed too. Both good and bad bits so it is an average rating from me. The place is clean and beautiful though and i loved that it was dog friendly.

Uncomfortable room

Reviewed By Brightontraveller-2

Oliver's Lodge is in urgent need of refurbishment. Carpets need replacing. Room was large but basic, bed rock hard. Traffic noise (at the front) worsened by old single-glazed windows. The bathroom was simple and clean but the shower water flow was just a trickle, almost unusable. The forecourt area in front of the building is in a bad state, many potholes. Communication with the hotel was difficult - no email confirmation when I booked and the advertised phone number didn't work. Despite all this, the staff were pleasant and friendly. You get what you pay for - I paid only £67 B&B.

Slepe Hall Hotel

Sunday Lunch

Reviewed By Easter-Flyer

The staff are nice and do their best. The manager is a bit absent minded - five minutes after taking our money for the bill, she saw us in the foyer fiddling with our coats, said hello and asked if we had a table booked. The food is ok; not much wrong; but nothing at Slepe Hall tempts a return visit.
