April 27, 2023 Joeann Galban

Encompassing two of the Netherlands’ three largest cities (Rotterdam and The Hague), Zuid-Holland (South Holland) is also home to important towns like Leiden, Gouda and Delft. And many lovely smaller towns dot the gorgeous green landscape. Alphen aan den Rijn has several interesting attractions, including Dutch history theme park Archeon. Picturesque Kinderdijk, birthplace of the legend of the Cat and the Cradle, also has many windmills that together are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nice room, great location

Reviewed By imgwiz

Room lovely, bed comfortable, liked extra space with the couch as a seating option. Liked the big windows and brightness of the space during the day. Bathroom big, good for putting up a line to dry washed clothes! Room really quiet and peaceful from the street, and that was during kings day celebrations, and it was vey lively in the streets outside. Great location for visiting Leiden. Coffee maker in room, it a frig would have been nice as well. Nice storage area for clothes etc, but it was really dark in that corner with no lights there. Also some of the lamps/ bedside lighting not working. Breakfast option was unclear; we were told at check in just to,show up if we wanted it, then we’re told in morning they were “ booked up” and we had to go find it outside. Not a huge problem….. but then the next day we said we would be there and the breakfast room was locked while we and the delivery person waited for someone to come. When she did arrive it was all fine, busy traffic issue. So really the issue is that they did not have a staff person on the premises. That would have made various small issues easier to resolve. May be a staff shortage issue that places are still dealing with….

Rooms could be better equipped for 4 star hotel

Went here on a short trip. Booked a comfort room for three days. Rooms are clean and spacious. Do miss a few things: airco, coffee/thee and a small fridge. Rooms get hot in the summer and are not easy to ventilate. Breakfast/restaurant is good and with friendly staff. Hotel is located close to the sea yet in a quiet area. Enough parking facilities.

Great location in The Hague

Reviewed By rongie007

Great budget hotel in The Hague. The staff were very friendly and place was very clean. Our room was at top of hotel and at front and though on a main road was fairly quiet. We arrived late to a warm welcome and enjoy the place. Location about 10mins walk from Central train station or 3 minute taxi. The Hague has a very good transport system with a tram stop out front of the hotel. A day pass allows you to explore the area out to the beach or spend the day at Delft town. We primarily were there to do a parkrun but also got to see much of the city. Throughly recommend this hotel. Thank you especially to Chris who made our stay brilliant.

Excellent; perfect location; very friendly hostess

Reviewed By Niek1985

We stayed here during a birthday get away just after the decreasing COVID measure in the Netherlands and in the middle of February storm Eunice. The hotel has a great location close to the city centre but also to the Piet Heinstraat - with a great coffee bar! We walked a lot while parking our car at a free spot nearby - an excellent tip from the hostess. We were welcomed very friendly and warmly. Immediately received a lot of tips and were invited to our room. We had a smaller room this time at the Third floor (2e verdieping). Very nicely decorated but less spectacular than for example the Emerald room. Great place to stay!

Zorn Hotel Duinlust

In the world of anonymous chain hotels, this is a real gem, so pleased to have stayed here.

Reviewed By Chris G

I came to Noordwijk to visit the European Space Agency’s Open Day and wanted a 2 night stay with bed and breakfast reasonably close to ESTEC, found the Zorn Duinlust hotel on booking.com. It may ‘only’ be a 3 star hotel, but it’s certainly a 5 star experience. Despite arriving very late thanks to a delayed flight and engineering work on the railway, the owner cooked a supper for me after I arrived. The room and bathroom are spotlessly clean, and have WiFi and a tv in the room. I don’t normally sleep very well the first night away from home, but I did here. The mattress is super comfortable. You can open the windows a little to get in fresh air, and my room has a massive radiator that you can adjust at will; small things, but so much better and more environmentally friendly than air con. Breakfast is great, enough choice to get you set up for the day. There were a few people visiting ESTEC that stayed here, so it’s a clever choice. The main beach and promenade are a few minutes walk away. The owner is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about attractions in the area, so you benefit from insider knowledge too. I hope to return next year to ESTEC and the Zorn Duinlust hotel.

Bed Bugs - No safe LIGHT in Bedroom / Bathroom

Reviewed By Shakiralondon

This hotel deserves to be shut-down as it operates with no proper electricity in their bedrooms. As per my pictures, this nasty hotel is not functioning; they use a lamp for lighting the bathroom and bedroom plus their air-condition does not work due to the fact that this establishment has no working ceiling lights as they seem to be doing works to it. This you only find out at check-in! If you sleep in this hotel you WILL wake up with bed-bug bites and your body will be so itchy for days on end - disgusting. This hotel solely relies on the assistance of ONE receptionist; no supervisors; no Front of House Managers thus the Receptionists are all useless and powerless. They run a pretty website, but in reality they are a fake company that lack higiene and customer care. Choose a hotel closer to Central Station where you will enjoy the city better.

Staying at the hotel as part of a college trip I found the staff to be superb, very helpful and friendly, a couple of minor problems were sorted out smoothly. The communal areas of the hotel are well presented with a great games room and bar area, very nice to relax in in the evening. The beds and towels were changed and made up daily. Breakfast was a good variety and selection of items and the coffee machine is fantastic.

Even though this is a small bed and breakfast, it is big in hospitality, comfort and friendliness. It has beautiful views over a park from one side and a lovely garden from another. It is very clean. The breakfast is delicious with homemade cheese, jam and butter among other items. The owners run it themselves and go out of their way to help.
