A table was reserved (essential) for 8 mature gentlemen. We chose from the 39€ menu, adding copious amounts of Hermitage and Sancerre, leaving us with a bill of 65€ each including tip. Many of us have experience restaurants across the globe, and agreed that Montmatre was up there with the best for friendly and efficient service, quality of the food & wine and value for money. Our particular thanks go to the friendly French maitre d and the personable Lithuanian waitress.

A group of us, 5 school friends now based in various parts, met here for lunch and a catch up recently. It was the perfect spot. The menu is mouth-watering and reasonably priced. All dishes made from locally sourced produce and very generous portions. Lots of gluten-free options too. Plenty of tables, but the space is so big, bright and airy, you don’t feel packed in like sardines. And the decor is really quirky and interesting, all hand picked and placed by owner/host Anthony who made us feel so welcome. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and am planning a return visit to Sligo just so I can eat here again. (Oh, and the music playlist is worth mentioning too. Loved it!)

Recently visited Ella Bhan with 8 friends for dinner. Beautifully appointed restaurant adjacent to the quays in Sligo. Reasonable selection on the a la carte menu. We ate a selection of what was on offer....while main courses were delicious, the scallop starter was somewhat disappointing as they were overdone. Baked Alaska dessert which we had expected to be warm/hot was served cold. Not cheap and would have expected better...

This tiny pub was a pleasant surprise when I visited. It is clean and quaint. The bartenders are friendly and drinks reasonable. There is a covered patio in back and candles and soft lighting are inside at night. Mondays are Open Mic night...not sure of other “events”.

The Driftwood

Reviewed By SiobhCorc

We stumbled onto this place when staying in the Yeats Country Hotel around the corner and couldn’t believe our luck. The restaurant is really nicely decorated with the driftwood theme throughout but the food was just amazing! I got the beef brisket sliders to start which were just so tasty, and a big portion too, but I couldn’t stop eating them. Then I had the prawn & monkfish gratin for mains, along with a cheeky charcoal margarita which was a surprise to the eyes but a treat to my mouth! My husband had the chicken wings to start and the burger for mains & loved every mouthful. He was so impressed with the chicken wings that he wouldn’t get them anywhere else for the rest of the trip because he said they’d be a disappointment after the Driftwood ones. I couldn’t recommend this place highly enough, the place was so cosy and relaxing, the staff were so nice and friendly, and the food really was top notch. The prices might be slightly higher than other restaurants in Rosses Point but the food really is on another level so well worth it. We were saying if it was a restaurant in Dublin they would be charging twice the price and they’d still be full every night!Definitely treat yourselves to a meal here if you’re in Rosses Point.

I've had occassion to eat in the Strand a few times over the last month or so, lunch, pizza and takeaway pizza. It's a lovely cosy pub with blazing fire and lots of little nooks and crannies. The staff are lovely and friendly. Lunch was nice (we just had sandwiches/panini) Pizza the night before was also pretty good, but they got our order badly wrong and one of our party was waiting 20 minutes for her pizza. Rather than reduce the bill somewhat as a gesture of goodwill, they actually charged us extra for toppings we never received! The did eventually remove the offending items but it was a bit of a battle. The takeaway pizza we got a few weeks previously was 'ok' the base was nice but it was lacking in toppings and flavour we found. Also, they charge the same for the pizza whether you eat in or takeaway, so it leaves it pricey for a takeaway. Overall, I would say it's a lovely place to go for drinks, with friendly staff, food is pretty good, but the customer service with the pizza put me off a little bit

Shells Cafe

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, made our 2 golden retrievers welcome and supplied dog bowls and water after their swim in the sea. Excellent fish and chips, breakfasts until 12.30pm. This little gem is on the seafront and open from 9-6pm and licensed. Great desserts, homemade bread and homemade baked beans make this a great and reasonable place to eat. Outside seating if the weather is good. There can be a problem parking as the seafront is not long and spaces are at a premium but there are other car parks within a short walk and well worth the effort.
