Very central to everything

This is a very quaint inn, not to be confused with a hotel. We did have what was probably the best room, which had a full 3-piece bathroom. Other rooms shared facilities. My only complaint on the room itself was that we didn't realize how noisy the road would be in the morning. It is the main road, after all. However, good news that there was no noise at night, which was welcome. The view would have been compromised by moving to the other side of the building. A little hiccup upon arrival was swiftly met with full accountability by staff and owner. We really appreciated that. Location is perfect. Lots to see and do without driving, which was especially welcome at night.

Hiking magic and friendly host

Reviewed By miltons123

At the last minute, we decided to take advantage of a sunny weekend and escape to Salt Spring Island. Irina was very accommodating, despite us being the first guests of the season, her business just opening up again. Of course, all the delights of her garden were not evident to us this time of year. But, the views from our deck were so terrific--and, you're literally in a forest, with the Gulf Islands ahead of you. What really blew us away was the hiking we were able access a mere 5 minutes away from her B&B--rather than driving up Mount Maxwell, we hiked up all the way up, with spectacular views of Fulford Harbour using trails #s 4 and 7 going up. Wow! Eagles galore. Thanks, Irina, for your friendly hospitality.

Terrible Service

Reviewed By 856hankb

We stayed at this terrible hotel for two nights at $500.00 plus per night. We received no cleaning service. When we asked about having our room cleaned the two rude and smug front desk clerks told us we needed to complete a form requesting service. The information was not provided when we checked in. I asked the clerk, who was there when we checked in, why we weren’t informed of this practice and he shrugged. Both clerks were completely disinterested in us or our issue. I indicated that they should provide guests with their protocols upon check-in and they basically stared blankly at me. There was zero customer service. I asked for more towels. Upon coming back to our room we found new towels on a counter. The dirty wet towels were still on the floor in the shower. We tried to eat dinner in the hotel restaurant. We arrived at 7:15 pm. The restaurant had three tables with customers and the majority of the seats were empty. The hostess asked us if we had a reservation to which we replied no. She told us that was their Covid protocol. We left and ate across the street where we were not required to have a reservation. We ate at a few different establishments in Gange that weekend and no one required reservations. I have travelled all over the world and have never had such terrible service at such an overpriced hotel. Their “Covid protocol” line is just an excuse for apathy and laziness. Why are there two clerks at the front desk doing nothing while customers can’t get any services. The hotel was not busy at all. There was hardly anyone there yet the island was quite busy with line- ups at restaurants in town. Where is the management? Don’t get tricked into staying here. It is not worth it.

Wonderful in so many ways!

We echo other reviewers in raving about the breakfasts - they rivaled those great breakfasts served in B&Bs in the UK! We especially appreciated that they accommodated my husband's need for a gluten free (celiac) breakfast. We had a lovely stay in the cottage, which provided extra space and the ability to prepare picnic lunches. The cottage is not "modern," but very comfortable, homey, clean, and functional. We appreciated being able to walk to town - especially for that fabulous Saturday Market! Len provided wonderful hospitality throughout our stay. We would definitely return to - and highly recommend - Wisteria Guest House.

Off season getaway might be the best time

Reviewed By Albertabound10

We spent a couple nights here as part of a BC Ferries package. Overall, really loved the location being just a short drive into Ganges and each cabin had a sheik and relaxing vibe to them. Three mornings in a row it was sunny and we could awake to a quiet lake waking up with birdsong everywhere and frogsong at night. The complimentary canoe is good for a quick dip, though the lake is quite small and it won't take long to satisfy your curiousity. Overall, cleanliness was not as great as we'd hoped however---we had pretty streaky windows and a few cooking utensils which seem like they'd had better days. When I looked at what these cabins charge for peak season stays, not what we paid, I think guests deserve a bit better quality pots and pans. Service was responsive, but seems to end at 5pm which again----seems a bit early in the day for a striving to be higher end resort. I think we would stay here again if we're back on SSI, but would make sure to keep it to shoulder season vacays so that the value remains.... And having a laundromat on site would be a good idea as well (at least one).

Cozy Cabin in Beautiful Location Needing Updates

Reviewed By MarkontheRoad1957

I'd been here for a couple of very pleasant stays a long time ago and was looking forward to another quiet retreat. The cabins are beautifully built, very cozy, and located in a very peaceful, remote location with beautiful views over the ocean and islands. Staff is friendly and responsive when they are on site. Our cabin was clean and the kitchen was well equipped, with a wide range of toiletries and hot drink options, and they even provide bath robes and all that you need for a cozy fire in the wood stove. Unfortunately, none of the furniture has been updated for at least a decade since my last visit. The mattress was hard and lumpy and there was nothing comfortable to sit on, either inside or outside. The two wide benches in the living area with old cushions had only some pillows for back support and the squeaky rocking chair cushion had long since lost its padding, so we ended up placing and stacking all available pillows on sitting surfaces in an effort to get comfortable. Bottom Line: Very cozy cabins in a great, peaceful location for a retreat, but if you require a good bed or comfortable places to sit for your stay, this might not be the place for you until the owner gets around to buying some reasonable furniture.

Incredible experience combining luxury with an immense connection with nature

Reviewed By 375jessys

I had the privilege of staying at Lightwater Cove recently, and I was impressed and in awe of how much meticulous detail and thought has gone into constructing this oceanside sanctuary. I stayed in the Wheelhouse Suite and was greeted by the sun in the mornings, with the view of the ocean outside my window and the snowy mountains in the distance. I was given tours of the property and the rich in-depth history of the land that Greg and Monika have preserved and paid tribute to. The architecture is stunning, luxurious and cosy all wrapped into one - truly an incredible experience. I look forward to visiting Salt Spring Island again, and enjoying all of the magic that Lightwater Cove has to offer.
