Messapia Hotel & Resort

Messapia Hotel and Resort, a four star hotel located in a panoramic position at only 800 metres from the sea, is harmoniously integrated in the natural scenery of the Mediterranean maquis. This seaside resort, which was in the past a Messapian site and later a little Roman town, overlooks the stunning area of Santa Maria of Leuca on the eastern coast of Salento peninsula called “finis terrae” or “the end of the world” because land seems to finish here, jutting into the waters of the Adriatic and Ionian seas. The hotel includes 110 units, comfortably divided into hotel rooms and different types of apartments in order to satisfy all necessities. The rooms are equipped with well-appreciated services as tv, minibar filled on request, air conditioning, telephone, a safe, en-suite bathroom with shower and hairdryer. Messapia Hotel’s architecture and furnishing aim at respecting the basic elements of Salento environment such as the “Pajare” the Mediterranean maquis, but also materials as the local stone called “carparo” and the rush, chosen to create an extremely simple and functional style and to show the dexterity of local craftsmen. In the hotel rooms, the decors on the bedhead refer to old Messapian symbols such as the sun, the sea and the wind. Distinctive and unusual is the building that houses the hall, the restaurant and the main facilities. Its structure perfectly reflects the motif of a fortified farm-house or “masseria fortificata” an old architectural structure complete with a tower which was used in the past as a defence system. The new management has continued improving already existing facilities but also introducing new ones, such as a beauty centre with pure relaxation treatments provided by skilled physiotherapists and body care ones made by qualified beauticians; a hairdresser; a green area among pajare and centuries- old olive trees to be used as a solarium and children play-area; a removed art gallery; a gift shop; a new panoramic lobby for aperitifs, well equipped with rhum and Cuban cigers; a pizzeria; a restaurant; a roof garden used for themed supper nights and special events or parties on request surrounded by a stunning view.

Not what I expected

Stayed here for six days in August of 2019. I highly recommend you are able speak and understand Italian to be able to communicate with the staff. Thank goodness my husband speaks fluent Italian because my Italian was not helping me. lol. The parking attendant was beyond rude. It is an extremely long walk rolling luggage on uneven pavement with a lot of stairs from the parking lot to the lobby, and then back to your villa. Hold off on bringing your luggage until you know where your room will be located. The lobby, restaurants, pool, and main areas were nice and seemed clean. However don't let that fool you, the rooms are very old, very dated decor, and tiny. The terrace or patio is a good size. Our room was not very clean at all. The rooms have a A/C unit in one window in the main room. The air doesn't make it into the bedroom. The window was broke and would not seal or stay 100% closed which made it miserable to sleep in the heat. You are required to wear an ugly swimmers cap in the swimming pool. Even bald men have to wear them. However, an extremely hairy chest and body was acceptable. Does not make any sense at all. They don't offer pool towels willingly and when you ask for towels the staff seemed very annoyed. Although I like the area and the proximity to our other activities/destinations, I would not stay there again.

Quaint and beautiful Borgo

Reviewed By PortoAlegre1971

The borgo is a beautiful and quaint renovation, with all the great amenities you would expect from this kind of property. The rooms are clean and spacious (ours even had a kitchen), pool area is quite nice and pretty and it’s location makes it a great spot to enjoy a Beach Club during the day while exploring Lecce in the evening. Another great feature is that everything they serve is fresh… either from their gardens or from local bakeries (the bread is actually warm when they serve). Finally, the staff is super-friendly and Alessandro is an amazing host, always available and helpful with tips and bookings!

Very nice stay

Reviewed By padwin2015

We stayed here for just 3 nights, but enjoyed the time very much. The service was very nice. They have a own, save, parking lot. The beach is 100m away. The breakfast was typical italian, with a lot of sweet stuff. If you take a closer look at the house and rooms, a few things could be fixed, but nothing serious. The Wifi was not the best. We would stay here again.

Dolce vita in Salento!

Reviewed By Aneczka9

Bellaria Residence is a paradise on Earth! We have spent amazing time there and it will always remain in our hearts as ideal holiday destination. Situated in the little town of Giurdignano, 5 km from more famous Otranto, it is a great place to be whether you want to visit amazing Salento coast line (both Adriatic and Ionian) or simply chill by the pool enjoying Mediterranean nature around you and your Aperol Spritz :) We did both! From the moment you pass the front gate you can feel the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of this place. All the staff is extremely kind and always ready to help and answer your questions. After one week, we are seriously considering inviting Enzo for Christmas as after warm welcome we received in his Residence we feel about him as family :) The residence is spacious, very well taken care of and decorated in a very beautiful manner and with a lot of taste. The apartments are very clean and have everything you need to feel comfortable. There is a delicious breakfast that includes wide selection of home made, freshly baked traditional Italian cakes and pastries as well as salty options. Both pool and jacuzzi are available for guests 24/7 and it makes a really great experience to have a night swim or bubble bath under starry sky with descreet, yet awesome illumination of the pool area. You have bicycles available for you and it has been great to have a ride at the sunset time around figs and olive trees fields discovering prehistoric menhirs and dolmens that are local attraction. Residence is located close to the highway exit which makes it a great base to quickly reach the most beautiful beaches we have seen in the area like Baia dei Turchi (10 min) Torre del Orso (20min), Porto Badisco (10min) and worth visiting towns like Otranto, Lecce, Porto Cesareo, Gllipolli or Santa Maria di Leuca. The area is plenty of good restaurants that serve authentic regional food, fresh fish and seafood at a good price. To summarize, we couldn't imagine better place than Bellaria Residence to stay in Salento. Whether you travel in couple, with family or with group of friends you will with no doubts enjoy your time there! We are hoping to be back soon :)

3 stars not 4 stars.

Reviewed By magicedars

We stayed here on the ‘Romantic Escape’ package offered on their website. Pros: - The receptionist on the Saturday evening was pleasant, welcoming and professional. We couldn’t fault her. Thank you. - The waiter for dinner was also professional and carried a pleasant smile. - Nice Turkish bath. - Beautiful building and setting/location. - Quiet in the evening - Dinner quality was ok. - Overall, good value for money. Cons: - Advertised as a 4 star resort - but DEFINITELY NOT 4 stars, more like 3 stars. - Dated/Old fashioned furniture - Very unpleasant sewerage smell in communal area on first floor. - Small bedrooms - Empty mini bar in room. - No bathroom set (toothbrush, tooth paste, etc). - Not everything functional in Spa and also too small with too many people. - Ridiculously small changing rooms - 50 min massage was only 30 mins but was not actually a professional massage. (€10 discount seemed a little disrespectful to be honest). - 90 mins wellness path was far from 90 mins. - Staff at Spa were quite unprofessional at times and seemed to rush people. Overall, the main complaint I can make about this establishment is that it is ultimately advertised falsely. No one can argue that it is good value for money but it would feel better if it were actually advertised for the level of quality it actually is, which is 3 stars. On this occasion, I was looking for a 4 star experience but unfortunately I should have looked elsewhere. However, if I were looking for a 3 star experience I would have been quite happy. PS. - Save your money and don’t get the massage!

Frozen Dr. Oetker pizzas charged 50 euros

Reviewed By Stéphanie D

The good points: - the masseria has a really nice pool and beautiful views. It gives you a luxurous feeling when coming home from dinner. - Our staff was very friendly and helpful The bad points: - we had never fresh bread for breakfast. Overall, the choice is very limited for a +250 euros room and a long stay. - the owner suggested to organise our pizzas during our pool day (instead of going to Martina Franca town). Surprisingly 2 dr. Oetker pizzas were served! The biggest surprise came when checking out: the owner charged 50 euros for this ‘lunch’: scandalous. The restaurant was poor quality in general. - Difficult communication in English Overall we would recommend the masseria for 1-2 nights because of the views and the pool but skip the restaurant and enjoy the great restaurants in Martina Franca town. The price setting is not correct for a longer stay.

Villaggio Vecchia Mottola

Villaggio Vecchia Mottola includes 15 rustic apartments scattered through the narrow streets of the center of Mottola, in the province of Taranto. They offer the possibility to appreciate the simplicity of a genuine way of life which has a very long tradition, without forgoing the comfort. In a characteristic little town of ancient traditions, full of suggestive landscapes, close to the sea and with a mild hill climate, our guests will also taste our local food, together with a good "primitive" wine....And even more good experiences to be found!!! An ideal solution for every circumstance: holiday or job transfer.

Very good and clean accommodations.

Reviewed By NanceC2013

Individual units spread out in the centre of the village. Close to everything the town has to offer since everything is accessible within walking distance (the town is very small). Our stay included breakfast vouchers for the nearby café that had the best variety of croissants and pastries and made the best coffee for our morning “collazione”. Although the bathroom and shower is very small, I would recommend this option for a stay in this quaint village. I have family that lives in Mottola and will return here on my next trip. I prefer to stay in a place on my own when the accommodations are this good vs staying with family.

Love at first sight

Reviewed By LBVdE

La Bon Vivant d'Ecosse and my darling wife had an amazing stay in this residence of utter joy. The house is just incredibly beautiful with its lavender borders, prickly pears and pomegranate trees. The rooms invelope you in the textiles of comfort and clean modern design. Remember to bring your swim wear because the pool will just be too inviting to resist. This is a great location for dipping your cultural senses in and out of nearby Lecce. If direct flights from beautiful Scotland were a thing, we would have found our get-away-from-it-all holiday accommodation at this masseria. Lots of love from Scotland

A beautiful holiday at the beach

Reviewed By GrantandGiusy

We spent a wonderful 6 nights with Michela & Francesco at their very cute B&B in Specchiarica. Their place is a lovely oasis only meters from the beautifuly clean waters of the Ionian Sea. The rooms were very clean and well appointed with air conditioning, we slept well ready for our lazy days at the beach. They provide beach umbrellas and beach chairs making it very comfortable. We had half-pension dining with the family, the food was very delicious!! Fantastic home cooked local cuisine and incredibly generous - we couldn’t have wanted for more! Also my wife is celiac and they very kindly provided gluten free meals for her, that was incredibly kind. They are very hospitable and generous hosts, we can highly recommend staying with them for a delightful holiday at the beach. Just perfect!!
