Not a "luxury" experience as you would expect from the usual resort chains in overcrowded locales.
Instead, true luxe: delicious clean eating, ultra quiet environment, totally relaxed atmosphere in a tastefully designed environment.
By the end of your stay you will know personally know all of the very attentive and genuine staff members, and probably will have developed lasting friendships with other guests as well.
Oh...and easy access to Rote's best surf breaks. Just ask Pak Ed. He knows them like the back of his hand, whatever your level, style or weapon of choice (foilers welcome, too).

T-Land Resort

T-Land Resort is designed with charm for the exclusive enjoyment along with family and friends, with a maximum occupancy of 16 people. We are located in the most coveted place in Nemberala beach, just in front of the main wave T-Land, which gives its name to the resort and is one of the longest left waves in Indonesia. All rooms have sea views, each one with a different decoration and inspired in Timor style, always respecting the local tradition. The T-Land Resort is a perfect destination for surfers traveling in couples, with friends or family, but also ideal if you're traveling alone, as you enjoy a warm family atmosphere, the main feature of our resort. It is hidden among the palm trees of this remote island.

T-Land Perfection

Reviewed By FinBoat123

We were greeted on arrival by Ariana, Reuben, Evan and Maya it was such a warm and personal greeting. We were shown to our accommodation. The rooms were spotless with air conditioning and insect screens. The rooms are serviced twice daily. They are designed by surfers, with your own personal board rack in your private courtyard. The shower and bathroom open to the stars. So cool!! The food was perfect, with a great Indo/Spanish blend and it was plentiful. At no point did I feel hungry. The location is the best, directly in front of T-land break and the boat departure point, where you have your own personal boat to take you to and from the surf. No waiting for more people to fill the boat before it leaves Our host Ariana, Reuben, Evan, Maya, and the staff are so friendly, always with a smile and ready to help with any info you need. Then in the evening, as the sunsets, they sit with you in the bar for a quite drink and a chat. The surf was perfect - perfect – perfect even the bad waves are good. It is a great adventure getting there, either three plane flights or two flights and a boat trip, whichever you choose. Remember, you are in Indonesia and go with the flow, it’s a great trip. Highly recommended. Fin, Mark & Rob

Great Experience!

Reviewed By Ootoro

I spent 5 nights at Villa Santai. Dino, Sharon, Obed, the boat crew, and the entire team at Santai took excellent care of me. Dino has really done a wonderful job in renovating the property and the new pool is awesome! T-Land is right in front of the resort, just a short boat ride away and you get unlimited use of the boats. We went to the outer Islands (Do'o and N'dao) and also kayaked in the mangroves. Both were wonderful day trips. The Indo Bar is where you'll meet Obed; be sure to challenge him in a game of chess; no one in our group could beat him. Dino will educate you in the Aussie language and tell you awesome stories from his experiences on Rote. The staff at Santai are humble and extremely friendly. Villa Santai = Dino's home and he will personally take care of you. If you're looking to get away from it all, surf some world class waves, explore remote islands, chill with wonderful people and learn some Aussie, then you'll enjoy Villa Santai! Very grateful for the excellent service from Dino and his entire team!

Friendly staff

Reviewed By V1591TBtinac

My friend and I stayed for 2 nights. Was meant to stay for 4 but my friend come off her bike and busted her little finger up, so we had to come back to kupang for her to get her finger straightened. (Make sure ALL brakes are working when hiring a bike. My friend had no rear brake) Anyway. Mahi took really good care of my friend. Got her to the rote hospital and helped her get all the right documents for insurance... the people on this island are so helpful, friendly and welcoming even though we had a big language barrier. We came in March which wasn’t the best time of the year to come as the beaches weren’t crystal clear like the pictures. But. I highly recommend kampung kakak for there kind services and go out of there way for you. We had fish for dinner one night and it was devine . I will definitely be back to venture more around the island and will be more prepared this time as there’s no restaurants you can just turn up to and eat. You need to give them 2-3 hours notice as they then go buy what they need to feed you therefore everything is fresh. Big thank you again to Mahi and her family and staff. Had a lot of laughs with you all ??x

The rhythm of Rote

Reviewed By Jack C

I have just returned from the best trip. The opportunity came up to visit Rote Island. Having always been high on my list, I jumped at the chance. The only disappointment was that I hadn’t made the time to do this earlier. We ventured off and landed squarely on our feet, toes in the sand of Nemberala beach. The Malole Surf house was epic. The operators had spent their time well, fine-tuning their offerings. They had created the most relaxing and homely ambiance. It was like stepping back in time. The history hanging on the walls told a lot of stories in their own right. We were fixed up with an abundance of tasty and fresh food. This is no mean feat considering the isolation of these parts. On the food front, we couldn’t have hoped for more. Malole had also organised scooters for us to go exploring the south of the island. We met many great characters along the way. We took in stunning landscapes. I will be returning as soon as the opportunity presents itself again. Next time I will carve off more time. It was tough to break from the rhythm of Rote. A great big thanks to Maria, Diego, Dani, their families, and the staff of Malole for being perfect hosts. To the local characters, I would like to thank them for sharing their stunning island with us. See you all again soon.

Remote beach vacation

Rote is a beautiful and remote island! Staying at Boa Hill Surf House makes you feel like you are in the jungle and beach at the same time. The hosts Axel and Bekka are absolutely wonderful. What you will get at Boa Hill Surf House: access to the Boa beach by a path down the hill, scenic views of the beach, especially at sunset, beautiful white sand beaches and clear waters, amazing food cooked by the staff (Bekka also runs Bekky Boos - a superb restaurant in Nemberala- try the wraps, pizzas, pastas, juices and desserts!!!), some great furry companions if you like dogs and cats, the feeling of being in your own remote island - some days you won’t see other people on the beach, great hosts that will answer your questions, cozy accommodations. What you will not get: everything you can get in the modern world. Rote is still remote, so be patient if people run out of items because that’s how the island works, it’s just part of the charm. The gym is the beach, the pool is the ocean - enjoy natural beauty. You won’t get good roads, be prepared to enjoy the shaky ride haha. Come with an open mind to experience true nature and beauty! Boa Hill Surf House is the perfect place for surfers and non surfers to come taste their own piece of paradise.

Best place to stay in ROTE for surfers

Reviewed By Allielovesthebeach

Dave is the best. If want to be looked after by a genuine, absolute all round nice guy then this is the place for you. Dave is a genius when it comes to thinking of all the little touches that make a surf camp awesome. He really has made the place beautiful and sustainability plus as it was built using all local materials. We have stayed in many different surf accommodations during 10-15 years of trips to Indonesia and this is by far our favourite. The rooms are huge, there is a beautiful little plunge pool, and the food is incredible. The best part for us is the boats that are included out to the breaks. They wait while you surf and you won't be left behind! Don't be persuaded to stay on the beach front, it is quieter, and cooler back from the beach and you can be at the beach in 2 mins anyway if you want.
