What are "vigili del fuoco"? They're Italy's firemen, at least that's what the Italians generally think. And let them think what they want. Their beautiful language entitles them to do so. But, for all of you reading this who are not Italians, I'm going to tell you the truth. Keep it a secret. At the Ristorante Pizzeria Centrale, the vigili del fuoco, are the restaurant staff that pour beer "alla spina", i.e., pour draught beer from the tap that extinguishes the burning tongues and taste buds that have been set afire from eating 5 alarm penne arrabiata. The insane thing is people will voluntarily set themselves ablaze just to enjoy the perfect marriage of the best of ingredients prepared simply but to perfection, by the cook in the kitchen at this lovely little family owned pizzeria. Bartolomeo Scappi, if he were reincarnated, would apprentice to that cook just to try to steal the recipe! I actually didn't have the penne arriabiata until my 3rd meal here. The fact that the first two times eating here I had the best Neopolitan style pizza outside of Naples (Italy, not Florida!!) that I've ever eaten was a delight. That I ate pizza twice in a row says something. If I'd had the penne arrabiata the first time here, I'd have had it all three times! I can't get food like that in the USA. However, there's a beer I first had in Borgomanero that is the 150th anniversary beer sold to honor the 150th anniversary of the Italian beer maker, Birra Menabrea. The pizzeria has the chiara on tap, and it is excellent. I don't know if the amber version (scura) is available on tap in any restaurants or not, but, in the bottle it is one of the best beers I've had outside Ireland where a certain craft Irish red beer, the "Dooliner" is sold at only two rural locations in that country--in all the world, if you will. That a bottled Italian dark beer is good enough to be mentioned in the same paragraph as the "Dooliner" speaks well of the Menabrea recipe for its amber version of its 150th anniversary beer.And, I cannot forget to mention "Alex". He's one of the family owners of the pizzeria, possibly in his mid 50's. His lovely English bride works in the restaurant along with other family. The first day I was there, I arrived about 20 minutes before they shut the doors for their 2PM closing for the lunch service hours. I was never rushed by Alex to leave and probably was there until possibly 3PM. Indeed, he gave me wonderful service throughout and when his family all set nearby at table to then have their lunch, given that the customers were all gone but me, he graciously and very sincerely invited me to enjoy their company at their lunch table. While I declined--we all need some private time--the warmth and genuineness of his invitation was another special touch which probably made the food I had taste better, if you know what I mean. The art of food is as much the art of presentation as it is preparation. And, presenting to the customers a kind spirit and a warm heart is another art of a different kind that is too often lacking in restaurants in too many countries. Bravo to Alex! Bravo!

The food was just ok. The place was cold, table arrangement was awkward. All 2 tops are shoved to one side so everyone was sitting crammed together while the other side was completely empty, senseless. The wine offering is limited. The area is rich in local wines while they only offer supermarket finds. Meh.

We decided to come and watch the the champions league final and enjoy some good pizza and drinks some beers. The owner Luca was very accommodating as he sat us outside in the patio area and near the TV. Our pizza's were cooked to order and the ingredients along with their doe mixture did not disappoint. Overall good experience, as we watch the soccer game and enjoyed our pizza and beer.

Delicious pizza. Take away is from the establishment. If you wish to sit down they will point you the little place next door (same owner, don't be alarmed). When we visited, the staff was friendly but didn't speak English, but with basic topping names in italian you'll be fine :) they also have wide variety of pre arranged toppings.

We ordered a pizza kebab and a pizza naturale. Very tasty and good quality. Friendly atmosphere and waiters. Correct price. Nice you don't have to pay coperto.HoweverI would like to make the following suggestions:1) there were too many flies zooming around; something could be done about that; 2) knives were not sharp to cut the pizza, and the special shape of the forks make it difficult to put pressure while cutting the pizza; 3) waiters keep the place clean but it is not very tasteful that they use cleaning spray in the neighbourhood of other tables while customers are eating. All in all, a good experience.
