This was the rare time, in our 2 weeks in Ireland, of being in a pub and the staff and patrons not very friendly. Certainly when we came in for drinks and maybe a bite one afternoon we maybe were the only tourists there. Just ignored. Decided not to order food. The next day we wanted to give it another try and came by 200ish and told they couldnt serve us cause had a very large party. I guess good for them, bad for us. I should note our son and daughter in law were there for drinks and lunch without us and had a good timeSccrref A Chara. Many thanks for taking the time to review your visits to Joe Watty's.There have been many comments about Joe Watty's over the years but unfriendly or unwelcoming just never comes up in fact its quite the opposite, but if you were made feel unwelcome I profusely apologize for making you feel this way, hospitality in our business and to be successful we must try our best at all times.I'm glad you gave us another try, we are a small operation but a busy one and do a lot of tour operator trade business which means we are regularly booked out. I regret I don't understand when you say you arrived at 200ish but I may understand it to mean 20hrs which would be peak busy time at night and if without a reservation would mean you may not have been able to get a table or at best could be waiting a while for someone else to leave to free up a table. If we were unable to accommodate you at that time I don't apologize for that, we were busy and as you state ( Good for Them ) each evening we take a certain number of reservations and the rest of the tables are for first come first served basis.I'm glad your son and daughter in law were able to get lunch and drinks and have a good time.I do hope that overall you enjoyed your visit to Aran

We were recommended to visit Kelly’s by our B&B host as a great place to eat. This was also supported by the good reviews this summer on Trip Advisor. We got a great welcome by all the staff on arrival and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Good beer is a sign of a good bar and they were great. The Irish stew was really special and tasty, and was very enjoyable. Well done Kelly’s for a great evening out. Always one of our favorites that has gotten even better. Damien Joyce, the owner/manager has made some improvements with a small remodel that gives more seating for those listening to the great local entertainers. They have early and late sessions so you can see great local entertainers early or late into the evening. The pub has a great mix of locals and visitors making for a fun evening. Super selection of Irish whiskeys and local beers on draught, including superbly poured Guinness! A don’t miss venue for anyone visiting Clifden.

Going on reviews, we (two couples) booked in for dinner last night.Have to say that we weren't over-impressed. The atmosphere is great, and the staff very friendly. Our young waitress was particularly good. The food - sirloin steak, fish and chips, and salmon (2) was ok. It was let down by dry, powdery-tasting chips, and by being rather over-priced - not least the ice cream at 6.95 euros.A bit disappointing really.

We drove up to Clifden via the Wild Atlantic Way and came across this cute town nestled between hils and the sea. After looking at TripAdvisor for restaurant recommendations, we decided on Macdara's and we were not dissaponted. The quaint style and great live music were amazing. The good was some of the best in Ireland that we had and the seafood chowder was the best my husband and I have ever had. For non seafood lovers (our daugther) there was a chicken pasta which was wonderful. You not only need to go to Clifde, you need to eat at Macdara's. There is a a beautiful patio out the back that overlooks the sea but we got there late and ate inside so we could listen to the music.

From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left, we experienced friendliness, professionalism, great quality food and reasonable prices. The restaurant doesn’t take reservations so it’s “first come” We we’re lucky enough to walk in and get a table straight away, but a wait in the lovely old bar would have been worth it. I would highly recommend this restaurant and bar and I look forward to returning. The food is excellent and the staff were helpful and friendly. The place has a sense of being well managed with attention to quality.
