Pembroke Parish, Caribbean Food Guide: 4 European food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Hamilton

February 11, 2020 Hana Mouser

Find out what European restaurants to try in Hamilton. Bermuda’s capital hosts hordes of cruise visitors in its harbor area, where two-story pastel buildings line the seafront. On certain summer nights, waterfront streets are closed to traffic and vendors and entertainers take their place for boisterous Harbour Nights parties. Stock up on Bacardi at the rum giant’s HQ or explore the mysteries of the sea at Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Hamilton presents some excellent golfing and shopping opportunities and is easy to explore on foot.

We were returning to our honeymoon destination of Bermuda and looking for somewhere special to celebrate or 25th Wedding Anniversary. We were staying elsewhere on the island and found Ascots on Trip Advisor, it fitted the bill perfectly. The restaurant, food and service were all excellent and we had a lovely evening with the team at Ascots who really looked after us, it felt special without being overly formal. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion.

I decided to do a take 2 of our 10 wedding anniversary dinner as our first dining experience at another location was underwhelming. So glad I did! Bolero NEVER disappoints and is ALWAYS consistent. As per usual, the service and food were amazing and worth EVERY $.

The Cottage Cafe & Bistro

The Cottage offers a sophisticated setting, perfect for breakfast or lunch. We use fresh ingredients to create traditional Cottage-style food with a touch of Portuguese influence.

We went here with family as they have been a few times. The place was quite quiet. We got a table and ordered drinks. A little while later we ordered food I ordered the mahi mahi fritter. There wasn't much of a wait before the food came. The mahi mahi fritter was really good, there was two bits of fish and was really nice. I would recommend this. The place was clean, the staff friendly. Try this place the food is good.

Cafe Acoreano

Bermuda has a relatively large Portuguese community from the Azores, but it is hard to find authentic Azores cuisine. Café Acoreano, a tiny hole in the wall by Hamilton Bus Station open for breakfast and lunch, is the only permanent restaurant on the island serving Azorean food. They mainly concentrate on baked goods such as their excellent Malassadas, or as the locals call them, "Portuguese doughnuts". Fried dough and sugar, how could you not like it? They also serve Portuguese coffees, Portuguese beers, and for lunch they usually have a buffet of Azorean specialties (often featuring fish and potato dishes). You will find the place packed with Azoreans watching Portuguese TV on their big screen, which they manage to squeeze into the place. A pleasant, unassuming place to get some pretty decent and, for Bermuda, reasonably priced breakfast or lunch.
