Termas de Papallacta

Termas de Papallacta is a Hot Springs SPA, Resort & Convention Center nestled in a majestic valley of the high Andes only 45 minutes driving from the new Quito Airport and 1 hour from Quito city. We are located at Km 65 on the way to Baeza following the Interoceanic road. Our resort is on the "Cinnamon Trail", the same route that the Spanish conquistador Francisco de Orellana took in 1542 when he crossed the Andean mountain range searching for gold and other treasures, and which unexpectedly led him to discover the Amazon River. Papallacta is the doorway to the Ecuadorian Amazon region, despite being in the Ecuadorian Highlands at an altitude of 10.827 feet (3.300 meters) above sea level and of an average daytime temperature of 14°C (57°F).

Expected a zoo but very mellow

We went to Papallacta during the week and it was tranquilo. Beautiful trip from Quito hired a driver through our hotel . Lots of different temperatures among the pools with lots of space in most of them to spread out. Be aware most likely you'll need to wear a polo cap to cover your hair. I think there is a charge (minimal) for robes. Nice mountain surroundings. There's a couple of restaurants one is more snacks than a sit down. There a lots of places to get out of the sun with tables and chairs (no problem the day we went was not sunny).

The kind of lodge you spend years looking for

They absolutely nailed it. It feels warm and friendly and natural, but with a modern, artsy flair: exactly the right balance between boutique-y and lodge-cosy. The interior and finishings are considered to the last detail. The food is fan.tas.tic, and the hosts bend over backwards for their guests. The rooms have spectacular views, and there’s a bonfire when it’s cold out. The location? Surrounded by mountains and a 4 minute walk from the thermal baths. Ideal. It’s the only place you want to stay in Papallacta. By far the best place I stayed in Ecuador.

Lovly place with very helpfull people!

We first only wanted to stay for 1 night and maybe stay at the thermals for another night, but we endet up staying for 3 nights. The reasons were following: - Extremly helpfull staff, even in Ecuador were a lot of people are really nice, this family ist special! Through there is no ATM, we could PayPal them some money and they gave us some bare. - the rooms are really good. Comfy bed, loads of blankets, a heat, very warm showers (after 2min), a small table with chair (in every room) and a small nice light next to the bed (which WE missed so often in Ecuador) - very fast WiFi - Tasty breakfast! (It's a buffet!) - Just behind the hostal is a public Spa - surroundet by nice small restaurants/minimarts

Views, fireplace, magic waters, nice staff - great place to stay!

Reviewed By V7750CNtracyk

Amazing place to spend a few days! English speaking owner Pakita, and her staff were super friendly and inviting. The hot tubs were always clean and a nice temperature. At dinner, the staff would go to your room and light the fireplace and run the bath for you if requested. This really elevated the experience especially during the chilly evenings. The magical waters of Papallacta seriously are healing. Our skin was glowing after days of soaking. We wish we were back there!!!! This place was quite affordable. The price came with a delicious breakfast. They make great pancakes, yogurt, and coffee.

Me encantan sus piscinas. Fuimos todos en familia hasta con nuestras mascotas y disfrutamos mucho del ambiente de montaña y las termas, las piscinas son techadas por lo que se puede disfrutar del sonido de la lluvia dentro del agua caliente

Cold night

Reviewed By refinnej80

The hostel is located a little bit outside main attraction (hot terms), accessible after a 7-minute walk (not the most pleasant, in a cold, humid, dark night). No lighting and stray dogs wandering around. Papallacta is located at approximately 3'200 m altitude and we experienced an uncomfortable stay due to being cold all night. All though rooms have an electric heater unit, it does not heat enough. Heaters are switched on by the guests upon arrival so depending at what time it is, there is not time to heat room. Rooms are very basic. Bed and toilet. I found hair in the bed and smelly sheets, supposing the cleaning is very superficial. Also you can hear your neighbors and corridor passage. Breakfast was good and cooked on the spot. Unfortunately hot drinks barely get warm due to the cold environment (not sure if hotel's fault). I surely did not enjoy my short stay overthrew and was happy the area.
