Destination - Paradise!

Reviewed By Coastal802845

Waiwurrie is a destination! This fabulous lodge has commanding views of Mahinepua Bay. We thought we had arrived in Paradise! Vickie and Rodger were exceptional and amazing hosts who treated us to a taste-tempting three course dinner. Entrée was pâté made from Rodger's locally-caught and smoked marlin; the main was eye fillet beef; and dessert was Vickie's home-made manuka honey ice-cream; all washed down by professionally-made wine from grapes grown on the property. Breakfast was equally great with eggs from their hens and locally-sourced food. Our room on the ground floor was beautiful, with a separate but private bathroom. A truly wonderful stay - we would go back in a blink! Thank you both.

3 Night Stay

Reviewed By HappyTravellers8486

We booked for 3 nights because of all the amenities this place had to offer - Pool, Spa, Sauna, hotels own bar/Restaurant. However, upon arrival we soon found out the restaurant/bar wasn’t to be open as they don’t do this anymore, the sauna doesn’t work, the Spa pool was not clean (murky brown water and half full). Quite disappointed as we booked because this place had all these things to offer. There was no ironing facilities in room - had to ask for this, no phone in room. We went out for the day at 8am and left the “Service room” sign on door, arrived back at 5pm and nothing had been touched, had to ask for clean dry towels etc Breakfast was basic bread to toast, mini croissants, muesli, yoghurt and fruit. Wouldn’t pay the $15 for this, best to get a breakfast at one of the many cafes close by. Location was great, easy walking distance to shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Amongst all the issues, the Staff were very friendly and helpful. Wouldn’t be first pick for the next visit, but would go back if all these things are fixed. Has great potential.

Good place to stay while on holiday in the Bay of Islands. Close to shops, beach, Waitangi grounds, ferry terminals. We did not have a designated parking space directly outside our room although that was a minor inconvenience. Our room was upstairs but lucky we did not have to bring heavy suitcases as it would have been a mission lugging all those up without a lift in place or even a ramp. We had a rather dodgy flickering light on the eaves right in front of our room that may have triggered epileptic seizures in susceptible people. Our room was clean and acceptable with convenient light switches and a separated shower stall/bath/toilet which is quite rare in hotels trying to skimp on space. WiFi was useful with decent speeds using a guest code. Room was not serviced daily. The outdoor swimming pool was a good touch for the kids although it would have been good to have the smaller toddlers' pool heated and signs indicating the depth of each part of the pool. We loved the games room despite the denuded table-tennis paddles and had a go on all the equipment including the football table, the pool table and the chess table. Otherwise an otherwise enjoyable stay in this beautiful little village.

Disappointing and definitely not luxury

We paid $322 a night to stay in a run down house being advertised as 'The Villa'. We could not have been more disappointed on arrival at this shabby tired old property. This stand alone house/villa had unmown lawns and leaking gutters. The kitchen rubbish bin had no lid so that smelt great during our 3 day stay. The furniture was just so grubby. Curtains and blinds were not fit for purpose and didn't fit the windows in most cases. When lying in bed in the master room I could look into the door-less wardrobe and see an old sign that had been chopped up to make a shelf. Absolutely nothing resort like about this accommodation, certainly not worth paying $322 per night.
