Lunchtime meal for 5 at Yoko Asian Fusion Restaurant today 7th September. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of room between tables. The decor is simple modern and tasteful. Duty Manager Chris showed us to our table and waited on us throughout the meal. He was very friendly and helpful explaining and describing certain meals on the menu that we were curious about. We all chose chicken in various styles. I personally had Crispy Orange, Pineapple and Honey Chicken with a side of Egg fried rice with bacon. The meal was well presented and the portion size was very generous ( in fact too much for me I brought home a doggy bag). The quality of the food was excellent the flavours very good not greasy in fact the whole meal was light and crispy, the rice was dry and very tasty. Desserts only two of us opted to have something but Chris suggested maybe bring extra spoons just in case, again generous portions and fresh clean flavours my sister Evanna has Raspberry sorbet and mixed berry compote it was delicious and yes the extra spoons came in very handy. Chris checked with us throughout to make sure all was well as the meal progressed but not in an intrusive way his people skills were very good, as were the two young ladies dealing with our drinks order and our payment. Speaking of payment I’d say the prices are reasonable considering the high standard of the meals served. The overall experience was very good and we will certainly return.

Family of 5 ate dinner here. Food was decent, not great except for maybe the Sea Bass which was really good. But the service was very poor. We ordered drinks with the food and did not receive them until we were 3/4 thru our meal. We asked our server 3 times and even 2 other servers. I was getting ready to call over the manager when our drinks finally arrived. And the drinks included tap water. So basically we ate 3/4 of our meal without and drinks. Very frustrating. The other complaint was it took a long time to get our bill. Other patrons were lining up at the bar asking if they could pay there. So that is what I did. And got out of there.I would not recommend.

The Tides

Overall, we enjoyed our meal at the Tides. There were many, many positives here, and the only thing that kept this from full five stars is the time spent here. The atmosphere at this restaurant is amazing...a very "homey" feel downstairs, but the upstairs is delightful...especially if you're able to make it to the back patio overlooking the Atlantic Ocean...what a wonderful view and atmosphere!! While it was crowded, we did enjoy a drink downstairs on couch-style seating before we were called up to our seating upstairs. Our server was very friendly, and we went with the three-course meal, which is really a fantastic deal.....an appetizer, a main meal, and a dessert for each order (not shared appetizers or desserts...truly individual). The food here was excellent, and the desserts delectable. We very much enjoyed all of our food. The biggest minus was the speed of service. A total of 2 1/2 hours from walking in to the time we walked out, and that's with reservations. We were seated in a reasonable time (probably less than a half our)...the remainder of the 2 hours was all for a three-course meal. It was very, very painfully slow, which put a damper on a very wonderful meal. Our order was taken quickly...the time was all in the food coming from the kitchen. Having said that, the food was excellent across the board. Not sure if this is standard wait and to be expected, or an anomaly, but the overall time for the dinner was a slight minus for an otherwise fabulous meal and experience.

Mermaid Kitchen and Bar

We went as a group of eight people for a 70th Birthday celebration. We were informed at the time of booking, at the confirmation of booking and TWICE on arrival we only had the table for two hours. Ok, we get it. If this is the case, it is the responsibility of the wait staff and the kitchen staff to get the food out in a timely manner. After an hour and a half, 20 minutes after the starter had been cleared, 6 of us had our mains, but there was no sign of the other two. We had to ask if they were coming. We were told, "The chefs are all about the presentation", though clearly not about making sure we all have our food at the same time. And clearly not about making sure we have time to have our meal. After the main course, we were not asked if we would like to see the dessert menu, again we had to ask for it. When the waitress came to give us the menu, we were told we couldn't have the chocolate fondant as it took 10 minutes to cook and we didn't have time. Maybe if we hadn't had to wait for half an hour for our main courses, we would have had time. Maybe if we hadn't had to ask for a dessert menu we would have had time. We were not slow eaters and the manager, after checking the timings admitted there had been a delay. He gave us a "round of drinks" off the price as compensation. This amounted to a bloody Mary, a cider and a coke (as all the other drinks had been wine). Great. We ate our celebratory meal with one eye on the clock and were made to feel like second class citizens.I was so conscious we had to be out. The wait staff, managerial staff and chefs ensured our celebration meal was nothing like we'd hoped for. Really disappointed.

We were rather underwhelmed with our food here..possibly just bad choices. We shared a plate of 6 tapas which was quite miserable...I know tapas is small plates but this was very small indeed....friends had paella for two which was delicious and would highly recommend that dish. I ordered the chicken main course which was small but at £8.95 I wasn’t expecting a huge meal...however I did expect it to be hot (or at least warm)...it was neither. It was quickly replaced with, this time, a hot meal which also had a lovely creamy pepper sauce which the first plate didn’t have! The chicken though small was perfectly cooked, moist and tender! Probably won’t go back.....which is a shame as I had heard so many good reports!

Last minute decision to try and wish we picked somewhere else. After being seated we were left alone for nearly 20 mins so had to find someone to take our order. Food arrived in another 20 mins which was average. Pretty pricey for all we got, fish and chips at £16. Lasagne, hard chips £14. Watery jug cordial £2.10 . Jawbuk gin and tonic £8.05 ...... all a bit too dear I'm afraid its a reminder to book the tides in time next time ...we won't be backHi Stephen,Thank you for your review and for taking the time to list the contents of your receipt. Having read your recent review on Morelli's Ice Cream, it seems that you are very price aware. We offer special deals at lunch time and an Early Bird offer in the evenings between 5pm and 6.30pm where you can have 3 courses for the price of the main course. If you decide to return, these might be good options for you.I see no point in name dropping other local restaurants, but for your information, I have checked, and our prices are very similar.Best wishes,Peter
