Kalix (Kalix dialect: Kôlis (/kɞɽis/, [ˈcʰ(j)ɞɽɪs]), Finnish: Kainuu, Meänkieli: Kainus) is a locality and the seat of the Kalix Municipality in Norrbotten County, Sweden. The name Kalix is believed to originate from the Sami word Gáláseatnu, or "Kalasätno", meaning "The cold river" the ancient name of the Kalix River. It had 7,299 inhabitants in 2005, out of 17,300 inhabitants in the municipality of Kalix.

Visited Arvid's Steakhouse with my wife and 6 other friends. It was great from the starting drinks, starters, main course and dessert. The personnel were fast, polite and with a good sense of humour. We will come back again next time in Kalix.

We weren't looking for luxury accomodation, just a place to rest on the night before a marathon IKEA shopping spree. The room certainly wasn't much to write home about, but nice enough and it did provide the required rest, if not much more. We had dinner before going to bed and opted for the buffet. This was adequately nice, and we certainly didn't leave hungry, but we felt it was imporant to be choosy to pick out the goodies and avoid what didn't quite tempt us.All in all I think we got what we paid for and we have no reason to complain. If you just need a place to rest, this will do. If you want to treat yourself to something extra, keep looking..

Fint café men ont om sittplatser inne, kommer bäst till sin rätt en varm sommardag då det finns många sittplatser ute i trädgården. Ganska tråkig inredning inne men fikat är gott.

Food is delicious here, each night. I stayed in the Valhall hotel for 4 nights and ate every night at Jara. The food and the presentation both ate top notch. Itâs a big relief to have a restaurant so good in such a small town where you have very limited options.
