Labake Cottage

Simply enjoyable and sweet experience

Reviewed By LovelynCasey

I stayed in the red room which was beautifully designed with colourful aesthetics, the staff were nice and friendly. The food tasted really good and was still spitting hot when it got to my room. It's a quiet cozy place and I enjoyed my stay because the environment is calm and serene, just like a pure cottage! Will definitely be going back pretty soon...

Scarlet Lodge Hotel

Reasonable hotel for the price and location

Reviewed By Beth604

We spent just one night here and were rather impressed with what we got for the price compared to other way more expensive hotels on Victoria Island. The restaurant had a good menu, although much of it was unavailable (I was looking forward to trying their quinoa and avocado but it wasn’t available). The chef is Egyptian so the food is halal. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived so they put us in a temporary room by the bar to rest. They moved us after dinner to a large room with separate living room, but unfortunately some bugs came in and we had to change rooms once again. This third room was fine. The kitchen kindly brought us breakfast at 5:30am as we had to depart early, but then they had problems checking us out as the breakfast bill hadn’t been added yet. We had to wait 10-15 min to checkout and we were in a rush to get to the airport. Overall we were impressed with this hotel for the price, but the front desk service could be improved.

Silk Suites

One of the better places to stay in this part of the world

Reviewed By Steffen K

This hotel ranks much better than most places outside Lagos and Abuja because they understand more what foreign business travellers require. It's clean, quiet and everything works. When a light bulb failed a loose connection to the air conditioning occurred, an electrician emerged in minutes and sorted it out. Staff are friendly and the buffet breakfast is ample but caters very much more to Nigerian tastes, so don't expect a choice of cereals or yoghurt or liquid milk. Bare in mind that some food can be rather oily and Nigerians love chillies in everything, but they call them peppers! Rooms start at Naira13000 (U$1.00=N360)

Centrally located. The rooms are basic, the food is exceptionally good. The hotel does not take international credit cards. I had to draw money at the ATM to pay for my stay. The staff was friendly and assisted to any requirements I had.

Villa Picasso Hotel

Nice hotel with a few minor rough spots

Reviewed By Lucysworldtravels

Villa Picasso is a very clean and nice hotel on Victoria Island. The room was very nice, all furnishings new, the bed was great, good AC and there's a generator so there's always power. I had a room on the 4th floor near a roof deck which was very nice. The only down side is that the staff, while friendly, needs more training for catering to guests. Staff were very loud in the hallways early (6:50 am) in the morning, talking & slamming doors. When I asked one of them to please ask everyone to be more quiet so I could go back to sleep, she looked at me blankly & didn't reply. The restaurant has a nice menu but they didn't have anything listed except chicken with fries or fried plantain. On the up side, a full breakfast with egg, toast, baked beans, a hot dog, and coffee / tea comes with the room price and it was all good. I did ask for juice and it took awhile for the waitress to find me some, but as with everything they were mostly very accommodating except for the early morning noise.

Home away from home

I have stayed in almost all famous hotels in Calabar be it Tinapa, Transcorp, Channel view, Pearl etc but this hotel is the beat if all. Absolutely great staff with smile on the face. They make the stay so comfortable and customised to your need, that you feel like at home. On special requests they allow to access the kitchen, which BTW is spotless. Nice Lounge: they have great Lounge to sit in open , it's terrific if raining.

Bad Eggs in Once upon a Time Nice Hotel

Reviewed By Sightseer54683787925

In summary, the duty manager, Mr. Austin showed incompetence and connivance in handling the suspected thief of my mobile phone, the porter on duty, Mr. Nathaniel which makes this Hotel, an hotel to go to with high level of caution! I checked into the hotel in the evening before going out with my family for evening recreation. The first suite we selected, we discovered the door was not working fine (not locking such that it can be opened from outside if locked even from inside). They agreed to fix. However, on our return, we realized we were allocated another suite. However, this new one had leaking pipe fittings on the heater in the bathroom and we could not get hot water from the shower. The wash hand basin did not have hot water too. We complained and the receptionist agreed to get us bucket and hot ware. Bucket arrived after about 40 mins after reminder. We managed to sleep and had to check out around 6:15am in the morning to continue our journey. After leaving the hotel and getting to where we were to get our next transport, I realized my second phone was not with me. I rushed back to the hotel (9 mins from when i checked out) and dashed to the room and my phone was no longer there on the stool beside the bed where it was left! The porter on duty, Mr. Nathaniel, was called and he claimed he did not take it. The receptionist also denied knowledge of it being stolen. They both claimed they had items forgotten by their guest with them, even item forgotten for over a year. That was when i got furious! If they are responsible and as they claim, they check the rooms immediately i guest checks out, then they should be able to call a guest using phone contact filled in guest form to alert those guest of forgotten i-pads and phones. I requested for the Duty manager, Mr. Austin, who came but was very uncooperative on the issue. I gave him and his staff time for them to consult and bring out my phone but after 30 minutes, the manager had no feedback for me as regards my phone. I asked for the General Manager’s number and he refused to give it to me, citing issue of his reputation and their reputation as if they are unable to resolve the issue. Till date, I did not get response from Mr. Austin or the GM of Somitel. This is highly unacceptable and the hospitality industry should hear this! Crooks are in that hotel.

I stayed at this hotel, is moderately priced, very friendly staffs and excellent service. Room is kind of small but not two people it’s ok. Security was good, I didn’t feel unsecured during my stay. Spend 7 days. Location is excellent to all Lagos arteries from mainland to island. Limited space for parking but community is safe so I was able to park on the street
