We enjoyed dinner on two different nights during our stay at Tigh na Sgaith. The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. The duck breast entree was tender with a flavorful sauce, and the seafood platter was amazing, with mussels, salmon, smoked mackerel, pickled herring, salad garnish. First courses included a smoked salmon and prawn dish, and fresh fruit and sorbet in a pineapple basket. There was a good selection of wines in all price ranges. The service was friendly. A very pleasant experience in a beautiful, gracious setting. Not to be missed!

We love this hotel and use it each time we holiday in Aviemore (annually). The bar is a mix of holiday makers and locals, the staff are friendly and efficient and most of all the food is delicious.
It is generally good pub food with a Scottish twist and there is a good selection of beers.
A must whilst in Aviemore.

Anderson's Restaurant

WelcomeWhether you've something to celebrate, are at the end of a hard day's walking in the hills, or simply fancy a break from cooking at home, it is our wish at Anderson's that you all feel welcome. Forget pretence, the atmosphere here is relaxed and informal, so sit back, switch off, and savour the pleasure of great food and drink. Local Produce At Anderson's we are committed to using local Scottish produce when it is in season, so needless to say, our menu changes each month, along with our daily specials. Each dish is lovingly prepared and bought together in such a way as to bring out the very best of truly great, fresh ingredients. Although our menu is creative, our aim is simple, to present you with food that we are confident you will enjoy, and that tastes fantastic.Family Friendly The whole family is welcome at Anderson's, and it is important to us that everyone can tuck into something they will enjoy. So for children we can either offer half portions of anything on the menu, or for specific likes or dislikes, please feel comfortable to say, and the chef will be happy to come up with something to suit- within reason! Similarly please make us aware of any special dietary requirements you may have.“It’s great to see a restaurant like Andersons opening up in Boat of Garten. Owners Steve and Claire have put a huge amount of thought and effort into their set up, and their intended philosophy of utilizing the best of Scottish produce should be a real boost to the local restaurant scene. I wish them every success for the future.” Nick Nairn

We live locally and only eaten here on two occasions. We love Sunday roast so decided to pop along and give it a try.
We booked the morning f our intended visit. On arrival the restaurant was quiet but it certainly picked up through service. Service was excellent and efficient. The Sunday lunch menu was impressive with several options for starters, mains and sweets, there was also an option to have two courses and a drink for £16.95 or three courses and a drink for £19.95.
The food was delicious and presented beautifully on rustic crockery. There was two house whites, two reds and two beers to choose from. We left stuffed which is always a good sign and will definitely return.
I’d have to recommend the handmade ice cream, we both had the Madagascan vanilla which was a real treat!

The missus and I stopped in to the Mountain Cafe for a quick drink and a slice of cake.
Two thick milkshakes and two slices of cake later, we were stuffed. I'm not a cake expert but my other is and she reckons that this place is right up there with the best. Nice milkshake too.

The dining room at Mountview always felt like a canteen but some good soft furnishings have helped soften the atmosphere. The food was very enjoyable although we could have enjoyed it more with some decent vegetables. These have to be ordered separately apparently, a system which is a little silly as you never know what is going to arrive on your plate. But with 3 courses we ate very well indeed.
Coffee at the end would have been nice if there was an espresso machine.

We came for a light lunch before moving on to other activities. Our original order ( haddock and chips) became unavailable. Our alternative was a salad which didn't arrive. We waited.....and waited..... Eventually we left... To be fair there was no charge for our cheese scone, tea and ginger beer. Staff seemed totally overwhelmed by the fact that it was Easter week and a lot of visitors around. It's been an okay café before. Let's hope they can get staffing issues sorted.

As it is a favourite of my father-in-law, it was bookedfor his 90th birthday. We had champagne in the library first which was nice but no one came and asked if everything was ok. Muchrach do a very good Sunday lunch with roast beef and lamb always delicious. On this occasion however they ran out of Yorkshire puddings..the waiter informed us that one of the roast beefs would be without a Yorkshire pudding! How hard is it to make sure you have enough?
One of the starters was dropped on the floor, the first bottle of red wine was undrinkable, vegetables missing from plates, no offer of horseradish or mint sauce for the beef and lamb...had to ask for that. Had to ask for drinks. No fresh orange juice! Four cappuccinos arrived after everyone had finished their tea and birthday cake and we were standing up to leave. Waiters, clearing and resetting tables, talking loudly over my father-in-law trying to thank everyone for coming from the States and London.
It is such a shame that the kitchen seems to be let down by the front of house and waiting staff. Their saving grace was that the kitchen had made one of the best birthday cakes ever. This could be a great hotel but on this occasion it seemed that they were more interested in getting their Christmas decorations up.

We have been to the Winking Owl a few times and are always welcomed warmly by the lovely staff. This occasion was no different even though the restaurant was extremely busy.
Our table was ready and waiting for us and our order taken quickly. The food when it came was delicious! A good sized potion that was more than enough and of an exceptional quality. Will definitely be coming back again for more!
After our meal we moved to the bar to have a few more drinks before leaving. The staff were very attentive and pleasant to deal with, making sure that we had enough drinks without trying to oversell.
Great Food, Nice Staff and a wonderful atmosphere.
