A nice and buzzing restaurant overlooking the water. The building is a beautiful townhouse converted to provide dining on all floors and lots of tables outside at ground floor. It is definitely worth booking in advance and requesting one of the tables on the first floor balcony which is private and overlooks the water, it makes a special occasion. Otherwise the roof provides a great outside dining experience.Overall the food was good and priced about right.

An old patron of the establishment I always enjoy their fish dishes throughout the year. My advise is be there on weekdays as it gets rather crowded on Sundays noon. The early bird gets a parking place very close. Ask for the special Greek dishes ofAnthoi stuffed with rice, their vegetable and the fish of the day .All tables enjoy sea view, though the front ones are preferred.

This place has a great location, right at the beach. The first days everyone is friendly. The food is good. But itâs end of season, and it shows more and more. The people working are getting a more and more âdonât careâ attitude, thereâs more and more food out of stock, the beach beds are gone one day. Itâs all understandable but nowhere itâs advertised when end of season really is. That would help a lot. Now we felt a bit neglected and not worth the trouble because season is ending, while for us itâs still our holiday that we paid for. Iâm sure itâs a whole different experience when you are in the middle of the season.

Despite being on THEIR menu, there were 'no dolmades' 'no mash' their suggested alternative starter of stuffed local flowers was just slimey & swimming in grease; the sauces with all four main meals were, in our opinion, from a packet which was thin and swimming all over the plate of food; we said we didn't want chips but we got them anyway; no one finished their meal, it was simply poor quality, poorly cooked. Anyone that knows Greek food would surely never go back there to eat. The house wine was nothing more than village wine, at a very exaggerated price. When asked if we enjoyed the meal we said that we hadn't, handing over half eaten plates of food - the waiter thanked us!! We had one starter, 4 main meals, 2 beers, 1 litre of wine the cost 99 euros!!!! - NO WAY we said and politely disputed the bill . The chap was extremely rude. We ended up paying 60 euros and still felt robbed... we were not the only people leaving unhappy that evening. A disgrace.

I had dinner with my family in this taverna. We ordered mainly seafood and it was very tasty. The portions were good and the prices were very reasonable. The staff is friendly and of course in the end the offered us cold watermelon and raki. It's located next to the sea, so it's an ideal place to enjoy your meal. I would definitely recommend it.

Decided to try Mistrali for a bite to eat, ordered a meal and was disgusted to find a fly on my dish which had clearly been cooked and served from kitchen, the restaurant tried to tell me the fly had landed upon arrival to my table but it was clear to see it had been on the meal since preparation.

We visited this beautiful restaurant right on the beach front twice. It is an incredible setting with tables overlooking the sea. Our waitress, Miranda was great. She was friendly with a good sense of humour.The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The first time I enjoyed the swordfish and tonight I had the chicken souvlakia and a plate of yummy vegetables. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals.We were also treated to complimentary fresh fruit and raki when we had finished.It is a beautiful setting to enjoy your meal.

Bit more expensive than most restaurants in Kalives but always tasty food using good quality ingredients. Great location right on the beach at the quiet end of town. Usually the service is excellent - we eat here regularly when we visit Kalives - but last time it was very slow and staff indifferent. Not annoying as such, just tedious!

A wonderful Taverna at the beachside in Kalives Crete. Although known for their great pizzas, the owners, Giorgos and Stella, provide some of the best food available along with a friendly Devil may care attitude to whatever anyone might want to get up to.

In 5 days we went 3 times to il Forno. We very much appreciated the attentive service staff and quite entertaining owner, let's call him "Harry Potter" the food and drinks were every single time very good, we had an absolutely great time here and the prices are more then decent! Definitely nr. 1 on TripAdvisor (2019) for a good reason! Cheers Peter Pan
