Had a private transfer instead of a hire car this holiday, and the firm were waiting for us, with our name printed clearly, in the arrivals hall, with a cool, air-conditioned vehicle waiting. It made all the difference to our travelling. The departure was just as professional.

Having done our Open Water certification here last year, we came back to both dive and snorkel with Omega Divers.
Once again they were superb. We did a refresher dive, a morning snorkelling with the non-divers in our group and the dived the Elephant Cave which is an absolute must see if you are here and can dive.
Very laid back but very helpful and reassuringly competent, I can't rate them highly enough.

My family and I were delighted with this activity.
The relaxed atmosphere and the very lovely host made this a memorable occasion.
We were all given the opportunity to participate if we wanted. We had a smashing group of like minded people who were keen to experience local / traditional cuisine.
Despite probably having run lots of classes, Koulas, the host was as enthusiastic and patient as she could ever be. She really was passionate about what she does.
The food was prepared and cooked......and then eaten with wine, water and if course ....Raki!!!
So glad we did this. Recommend to couples and families alike. Something for everyone. Book at Vamos village web site or tourist office.

I rented a boat for my family of 5. Great places to see within 30 minutes either way up the coast.
They allow you to rent it for the whole day but 3 hours is more than enough!
Should not cost more than 100-115 EUR, including insurance and petrol.

This late-Minoan burial ground is located in small and peaceful copse of wild oaks on a slight slope (good for drainage and preservation). The tombs show the linear development of ritual burials in underground tombs from the (?Dorian) age to the later Mycenaean ( about 3000 BC), culminating in a large Tholos-type tomb (open to the public). Anyone who has been to the Tholos (beehive) tombs at Mycenae will recognise the format/ format instantly. (Tip: Do NOT venture into the tholos tomb if you are wearing shorts or a skirt - there is a vicious colony of fleas that will immediately jump on you and bite your legs - I made that mistake and still have the scars to show!). The site is relatively small but could do with better signage explaining early burial rites / tombs for those without a guide/ guide-book.

Suda Bay War Cemetery is located approximately 5 km east from the centre of Chania (Xania). There are now 1,500 Commonwealth servicemen of the Second World War buried or commemorated in the cemetery. 776 of the burials are unidentified but special memorials commemorate a number of casualties believed to be buried among them. The cemetery also contains 19 First World War burials brought in from Suda Bay Consular Cemetery, 1 being unidentified. There are also 7 burials of other nationalities and 37 non-war burials.

This cemetery is a noble tribute to those who died in the Chania area mainly during World War II. Beautifully green and situated overlooking one of the largest natural harbours in the world. It is worth Reading the back story of the massive fight to retain the airport at Maleme. I had no idea that many of those buried here are from Australia and in particular from New Zealand. The only problem is getting here without a car. I travelled by bus from Chania and then walked, but it is a busy road and there is no footpath so take care. You won’t forget this place.

A rugged walk down from the car park, right hand path less slippery in the winter months leads to a beautiful small sandy cove beach with a long clean entrance with high rock sides, not for the faint hearted! Even on a Thursday in early December we were not alone, could be chaotic in the warmer months if not dangerous accessing through the steep rock descent along narrow ledges

We stopped here on our way to chania from refthymno.The grounds are lovely but once we arrived we were told that we could not get the wine tasting because of reservation only. This was quite disappointing since they didn't even have a menu/description of wine to achieve an educated guess (at least) on what we would like. Furthermore, the young woman whom I asked what wine is available to try told us to look at the wall of wine bottles to figure out what they had to choose from. Basically, we received no information on their wine choices and it seemed like we were more of a nuisance than welcomed. I've never been to a winery that would not offer tastings except under reservation so this was a major let down. We traveled far! Just to clarify, we were more than happy to pay for this service. So, we ordered a couple glasses of reds and whites which were good but the overall experience was sub-standard.
