Charming 18th century public house with 2 restaurants and a bar serving Bbq'd steaks and fish, a selection fo tapas tapas alongside traditional pub food
Popped into the Red Lion on the first night of our holiday. It was a Friday night and we hadn't booked and they were full, but we were greeted with a warm welcome from the bar staff and saud they would be able to accomodate us in 15 minutes. Sure enough just after I had finished my pint of Tribute we were called through. The dining room is windowless and lacks a bit of character so my expectations on the food front was lowered. How wrong I was. The tapas starters were fab, my curry from the specials was very tasty and my wife's beef wellington was the best she had had. All served with smiling, chatty staff at very reasonable prices. We will definitely be back before we leave and I will be having the beef wellington!

The surprise for us that the standard was better than we expected. The service was quick and efficient and every one was cheerful. The food was exceptionally good, I had a fillet steak ordered Rare and it arrived perfectly cooked. My wife had Sea Bass caught that day and whicj she really liked. All in all a really nice meal and a venue that really should be tried.

Popped in here, very compact but lively friendly pub. Has added appeal as was used in the film Fisher mans Friends. Fast, efficient friendly service.

Came for a meal for a special birthday. Didn't know what to expect really but it is top heavy with fish. As one of us is not a fish lover, the menu was somewhat limited. What was left was just one meat dish and a vegetarian option. The weather was horrendous so what would have been nice would be something wholesome - maybe bangers and mash or a pie but neither were available. We padded it out with a starter and dessert but sadly at extra cost. Given we had to drive were unable to drink but given the price of a pint I was glad I didn't.Overall, I am not complaining what I had however instead of making it look pretty, put it on a plate, with a ladder up the side and then we eat it. Basically good wholesome food instead of lardy da pretty stuff. Will try again - maybe for Sunday lunch in the hope there is more than a roast on the menu when we go next time.

Found the Quarryman almost by accident, if I had missed the sign up on the main road we would not have happened upon this great pub and restaurant. We arrived mid Sunday evening and the place was packed but the staff assured us that they would find a table for us if we were prepared to wait a while. The bar was a great incentive to wait patiently, the range of local cask ale is superb and a small taster before deciding was no problem. The table was quickly found and we settled down with the menus, the variety of choice was excellent and we settled for Mackerel Pate starters with a Sunday special Roast Chicken as the main course. The pate was really good, fresh and delicious, the main course that followed was equally delicious and so plentiful, besides besides the roast potatoes and sausage meat stuffing on the plate with the huge portion of roast chicken there were two separate side dishes of vegetables, cauliflower cheese, swede, cabbage and carrots, all with a really good gravy. The meal was absolutely superb and the staff were so attentive, we shall definitely be adding the Quarryman to our must visit when in the area notes. It is really important to ring and reserve in advance, we were very fortunate to be able to get a table as they were so busy, not just an occasional situation but very normal for this very well patronised local establishment.

We stayed at a B&B in Padstow recently and were recommended to eat here by our landlady. Always ready to take local advice we opted for the fish pie which was wonderful - big chunks of fish and really tasty. Very helpful staff and a very pleasant atmosphere - highly recommended.

We stayed nearby for 9 days so visited several times. The service is impeccable from all staff. Special thanks to Dennis. Food is of very high quality including the Sunday Lunch. Fish and chips is amazing. My only criticism would be the menu is somewhat limited but that is often, as here, a sign of high quality.
