Reviews on Pub food in Cobh, Province of Munster, Ireland. Cobh (/ˈkoʊv/ KOHV,  Irish: An Cóbh), known from 1849 until 1920 as Queenstown, is a tourist seaport town on the south coast of County Cork, Ireland. Cobh is on the south side of Great Island in Cork Harbour and is home to Ireland's only dedicated cruise terminal. Tourism in the area draws on the maritime and emigration legacy of the town - including its association with the RMS Titanic, which was built in Belfast.

Went there with a family group (adults) on Saturday. We were out in the harbour on a rib and in need of a little warmth and the open fire was lovely. Warm welcoming and good value. We didn't have time for food but the smells were nice. Will visit again.

A group of 7 of us ate in the Anchor last night (18th August) and we could not compliment the food enough. It's popularity was obvious by the crowd there on the night. One of our party was in a wheelchair and we had mentioned this prior to arrival when booking at we were well looked after in that sense. The food was the highlight of the night; our gang had Steak Tips, Fillets of Plaice, Monk Fish Scampi and Chicken Wrap Bowl. All went down like a treat.Highly recommend the Anchor for food. Have been before and will certainly return again.

The Bosun

Reviewed By Peter I

The Bosun Bar, Restaurant and accommodation is located on the bank of the river Lee where it turns the corner into Cork Harbour. There is an outside drinking/eating area and the view is excellent and even better at night. We decided to have our dinner there. We chose to eat in the bar. I don't know if the restaurant was open or not but there was no one in it. The bar had a good sprinkling of diners. There was no trouble getting a reservation at short notice. The tables are small bar type tables so we had to push 3 of them together to accommodate our party of 5. It was still awkward to facilitate all the plates and glasses though. There is a comprehensive Afternoon/evening bar menu as well as an Early Bird bar menu. The menu is well signposted to identify where there are allergen risks and has Gluten friendly options. There are 15 items on the Starter section. Prices on the Evening menu range from Soup (€5.30), through pate, wings, sea food potato cakes at €9.50 to the top end fried scampi €12.00 and crab claws at €13.30. There are 15 mains choices as well as 9 sea food choices and 9 sandwich type options. Mains are around €20-25 for such as beef stroganoff, lasange, carbonara and chicken and top end steak, duck, prawn dishes at €25 upwards. Sea food ranges from around €20 for the more common, cod, plaice, salmon to €27 for monkfish, sea food platters or medleys. Sandwiches are €9.20 at the low end (ham or chicken) to €15.50 for anything with crab or prawns. These are not cheap prices so the execution needs to be spot on to give value. The Early bird is a selection of the above and comes at €25.50 for 2 courses and €29.20 for 3 courses, which is good value. Some of us chose the Early bird menu and some the Evening menu. First the Early Bird eaters. One starter was chosen which was a half rack(6) of baby back ribs with barbecue sauce. It was quite acceptable. 2 of us also choose the Trio of salmon, cod and hake in a creamy leek sauce. The Bosun boasts of its sea food prowess and this was well executed - beautifully cooked with crispy skin, the salmon especially well done. It came with a mountain of veg - 2 types of potato and 3 veg choices. The Al a Carte eaters chose the Carbonara - polished off and voted good, the Thai Red Curry with prawns - said to be good but was a large portion and not finished and the monkfish medallions with crab meat and a roasted red pepper salsa declared to be very good. Service through out was good and we managed the table situation even though it was not ideal. In summary its Pub grub with the best bit of it the focus on the sea food. Would I go back - yes I would but I would be having the better value Early Bird and choosing fish.

We had dinner in Cronin's Pub a few weeks ago, and I definitely felt they deserved a review. Lovely period building, housing a traditional Irish pub & restaurant, packed with framed memorabilia, locals and tourists in equal measure! We were greeted by such warm and friendly staff on arrival. Mouth-watering menu and extensive wine list. They specialise in seafood but I had the fillet steak! Attention to detail is evident here. Top quality food from local suppliers, cooked to perfection. Take your time, and make room for dessert!

Started my walk from the cruise ship mooring, and walked along to the Titanic Memorial Garden and then meandered back towards the cathedral and up the steep hill to Jack Doyle's. From the outside you perhaps wouldn't expect much more than a friendly welcome, a glass of Guinness, and a snack, but I had an excellent lunch of which part was the best steak and Guinness pie ever, accompanied by properly cooked vegetables (slightly crunchy) and chips. Excellent desert too, an Eton Mess. Great value, usual friendly Irish atmosphere, and I waddled back down the hill to the Titanic Experience, another 5* attraction.

As a return visitor my fondness for the Bodega is largely fuelled by nostalgia, for when it first opened in the 1990s it was well ahead of its time in combining sophistication and comfort with a large open plan layout in a beautiful refurbished building - a formula which has since been applied in numerous other locations. The Bodega has not lost its appeal, and upstairs provides a tasteful separate space for private functions.
