Most Popular Mediterranean food in Chefchaouen, Tangier-Tetouan Region, Morocco

This stunning Moroccan city in the Rif Mountains was originally built as a fortress in the 15th century. The mountains towering over Chefchaouen resemble a pair of goat’s horns, and, perhaps not coincidentally, the creamy native goat cheese is one of the most popular regional treats. Architecture enthusiasts will marvel at the Jewish-inspired blue-tinted buildings, octagonal mosque and Spanish ruins.

We wanted to eat different food other than tagine and grilled after traveled 1 week in Morocco. It's just outside the medina, at the very beginning of Avenue Hassan II.Many locals come for sandwiches, but we tried Bolognese spaghetti(Dh25) and tomato sauce spaghetti(Dh20) on first day, and came second day again for tomato sauce spaghetti and salad(Dh15). The food is okay, and price is cheap. The same dishes if you eat at restaurants at the main place, price is over Dh40 (but don't know if taste better or not). One thing I recommend this place is their staff is very friendly, even their customers helped us on ordering and serving meals. The staff is thoughtful too, the first day we ordered spaghetti for late lunch, they probably ran out and needed to cook and they asked if we can wait for 20 mins to avoid our impatient. The second day we ordered salad, he asked if we eat tuna before he final put on the plate.

The restaurant venue is adorable, a small place that fits three tables and decorated to feel like someone's home. The propiater is very jolly and makes a mean tagine. The menu is not extensive, but the meals we had were cooked perfectly and had a hearty home cooked quality. The value was astounding, with our meal for two (plus big bottle of water) costing just 67dirhams.

Lovely Spanish Moroccan fusion background music playing. After lousy tourist food in the Blue City, we were surprised at the delicious tasty meals on offer. I had tagine of beef with raisins and apricots. My friend had a plain chicken kebab with 3 skewers and fresh green beans and carrots. Candles lit st night. Outside terrace. On main road but no traffic noise. Highly recommended. Menu in English. Complimentary mint tea and soup offered. Main meals at 50 MAD. Complimentary chilli green olives and Berber bread offered. merci de nous avoir visite et de noter toujours bienvenue

Chefchaouen is a tourist Mecca, so there are loads of restaurants around the town that attempt to lure in visitors with glossy menus full of local “specialties” like pizza, tacos and burgers. We wanted something Moroccan, and we wanted it to be well prepared and not overpriced. When someone from Moriscos presented us with a menu, we explained what we were after, and that I’m a cook at my own restaurant. He insisted that we had found the best possible place, and that they offered local dishes that we wouldn’t find at the other places on the square. He even showed me the kitchen to demonstrate how clean and orderly it was. That was enough for us, so up we went to the top floor overlooking the Utta el-Hamam square below, so we could watch the passersby and listen to the musicians not far away. The meal we had was excellent. We started off with a goat’s cheese salad (Chefchaouen is known for its goat’s cheese) and a dish of tomatoes with peppers, both delicious, and these were accompanied by a dish of olives and a spinach salad along with some fresh breads. For our mains we had a Chefchaouen-style tajine of goat with prunes and a chicken bastilla, both of which we enjoyed immensely, though it was a bit more food than we really needed—we could have easily done with one main instead of two. This was then followed by fresh slices of sweet and refreshing watermelon. This was an excellent meal, and reasonably priced. Definitely a winner!

Very popular with tourists and locals alike! Expect to wait for a table as the restaurant only seats about 25. Tables turn over slowly as everyone is enjoying themselves.I have never seen kitchen staff work so hard nor a manager/waitress/cashier/etc. (one person!!!)We had pizza but there are many other choices that locals ordered. The piece de resistance, however is the chocolate fondant. I’m not a dessert person but I ate almost half of my husbands fondant (he is a chocoholic). And to save our marriage stopped at that amount

They have a cat in the terrace and he just leapped on the table and got his head in the food...The restaurant said it wasn't their problem and we had to pay anyway. Good food if you like it with cat hair inside!Dear DiegoChefchaouen is full of cats, when you eat on a terrace, it implies to be confronted with nature ( bees, cats, risk of rain, ... ) ...Do you have any proposition to give me to erased cats of our rooftop ? The cat is not our cat, and I can not afford a bodyguard for cats also I can not installed transparent walls in our rooftop, ... If it does not suit you , we are lucky to have a saloon downstair without the inconvenient of the outside. Also if you had tell us what happened during your meal we could have change your plate and you could have changed your place. I have just ask my staff, and they said no one complained about a hair in the food and you told me that you had eat your food. I saw this cat (and others) many times in the rooftop but usually people just push them away or they change place or they simply like it. If I have to offer food for free to all the customers that the cats have annoyed we would be closed.it's the first time someone asked for free meal, because of a cat! so I should have understand that this is what you wanted even if your plates were almost empty. and I will not have had this very nasty note, poor of me!Do not hesitate to give us advice to make cats disappear? ( I am very interested )Yours truly,HAMSA

A shopkeeper whom we befriended, when asked if he could recommend a restaurant for dinner, said he rarely goes out to meals, but when he and his family do, they go here. That seemed promising enough, so we gave it a go. The dishes we saw other tables enjoying looked good when we arrived, and indeed we were not disappointed. There are a few dishes that differ from the usual—for instance, they do their bastilla as a roll rather than the usual disk—so if you’re getting a bit tired of the same-old tajine, couscous, salads, etc, there are things here to pique your interest. Service was friendly if a bit slow (but that’s to be expected—there is not a huge staff here). Prices very reasonable, too.

When going to Chefchaouen, this is one of the best restaurants to go to. They have moroccan specialities such as the tajine, but also have a killer aubergine lasagne and spanish croquettas that are amazing! The brevettes were also really good and dont forget to try the homemade lemonade. The view and the whole setting makes this restaurant a perfect experience.
