Es sollte wie der Name schon sagt ein romantisches langes Wochenende werden. Aber da haben wir die Rechnung ohne die Dame an der Rezeption gemacht. Aus irgendeinem Grund waren wir erst einen Tag später gebucht, was sie unfreundlich bemerkte. Wir stehen nach 8 Stunden Anreise mit zwei Hunden im Empfang und Niemand bietet uns oder den Hunden Wasser an ( unfassbar bei 33 Grad) nach endlosen Minuten frage ich : sind Sie ausgebucht? Nö ! Warum dann der Aufstand, ich habe das Gefühl wir sind hier nicht wirklich willkommen? Keine Antwort.... nach dem check-in wurde es auch nicht besser. Die Bademäntel aus der Beschreibung gibt es nicht mehr. Essen gibt es erst ab 18:00 Uhr..... dieses zieht sich über die gesamten 4 Tage durch. Ich wollte nur noch abreisen .Von Romantik ist hier null zu spüren.Am zweiten Abend wollten wir dem ganzen noch einmal eine Chance geben und haben einen Tisch im Restaurant bestellt. ( Fehler) wir würden ungefragt auf eine Art Hinterhof verfrachtet, wobei wir noch dachten ok ist vielleicht schöner ( nö war es nicht ) ein wackeliger Tisch umgeben von ungezählten Zigaretten Kippen und einen verwilderten Restgarten in dem ein uralter Gartenschlauch auf Wurzeln hofft. Der bestellte Wein wurde ungefragt in die Gläser gefüllt..... Das Essen war gut , aber wir waren froh als es vorbei war. Das alles hat mit einem Romantischen Aufenthalt nichts zutun. Ob wir bei der Abrechnung gefragt wurden wie es war? NEIN warum auch . Mein Fazit ich werde einen groÃen Bogen darum herum machen.Ach ja zum Schluss noch 2 Sätze zum Frühstück. Lieblos angerichtet ohne Bezeichnung was es ist und eine unfreundliche Dame die schneller Abräumt als man essen kann. Auf meinen Einwand ich sei noch nicht fertig: meinte dieses holen Sie sich doch eine neue Tasse .........

We were returning from a round-trip in Europe. Our last stop had been Paris and we were looking for somewhere to stay overnight. We found Gevelsberg and, since Gevel sounds like devil (in Swedish, that is), we thought that it could be an interesting place to spend one night. The hotel where we stayed (Zum Alten Redaktion) had no restaurant and the lady in the reception told us to go outside to find one. That is how we found the "Old Post-coach". Nice lady (the head-waiter) had a smoke outside and we got a favourable impression , so we entered the restaurant and ordered one Hänchenbrust and one Wildragout mit Spätzle. Good and safe choices in this part of Germany. Delivery was fast and presentation OK. But I think that the "dusting" should be avoided. Just like bean sprouts and trickling sauce on the plate is an outdated class marker.Anyhow, we had the meal and the Hänchen was, according to wife, OK. I ate some of the Spätzle, but had a problem with the meat. Large chunks that were not exactly tender and some of them were downright difficult to chew. So, I left most of my meal and asked for the bill. Bill came, but AMEX was not accepted "by the machine", we tried MC Debit - which the machine didn't accept. We then tried the "white" MC - which didn't work. We had been paying hotel bills and Autoroute péage with these cards for the whole trip and knew they were good. There we were. Cash isn't king any more and the few ⬠I had in my wallet were needed for other things the next day. I then told the chef (he was also the restaurant manager) that he could send us an invoice and that it would solve the problem. It has worked in similar situations in France and USA and I think that it is a universally accepted way of doing business. That is when he got quite unpleasant. He told us that we Dutch were a funny people (we are Swedish, actually) and that we should bring functioning cards with us when we visited restaurants. I couldn't help commenting that it would be better if he made his card reader work. I finally gave him my last cash and he sent the waitress back with the change - which she put on the table without a word. Germans are normally polite people, but when they think they have a reason, right or wrong, some of them get rather nasty.When leaving the restaurant through the bar, our "case" was discussed by the locals and we were obviously not very popular. The chef/manager, the head waitress and the waitress were all involved in the discussion. That is not what one expects from professionals. We are happy not to have any reason to visit that place again.

Für eine Pommesbude ist das essen ganz lecker. Man kann auch drinnen einigermaÃen gut sitzen. Allerdings ist die Bedienung hinter der Theke stets unfreundlich. Ich habe eine Zeit lang dort öfters etwas zu Essen geholt, allerdings hat mich die andauernde Unfreundlichkeit so genervt, dass ich nicht mehr zu Goodies gehe, obwohl das muss man sagen es in 90 % der Fälle immer geschmeckt hat. Preislich auch ok.

I'd been in Schwelm quite a couple of time, and also been to the place Eisenwerkschenke. If you ever have the chance to go there, do it. You will be rewarded with the best steak I could find up to know between the Western US and Tokio. The task, the source, everything is perfect. Yes, you can't make a reservation, yes, its sometimes very crowdy (typically always), yes, seating is very tight but: wonderful food, great location, very friendly staff and overall an experience you will not forget. Try the steak and you will get the best you ever had! Certainly, I will return if I ever have the chance.

The place has gone up in class if compared to both previous restaurants that occupied this building in the past... Very smart, very attentive service, even a printed copy of the menu with our name (unfortunately misspelled, but nevertheless a nice touch). The food choice limited but very interesting. Ingredients beautifully combined, with different consistencies, colours and excellent presentation. However, none of the dishes literally blew us away... So, considering the price, I cannot give full points. Wish them all the best though, the location is not easy, so they will need to make a real name for themselves in order to survive!

We stayed in the adjoining hotel & had the opportunity to dine & enjoy cocktails for three days. Very nice personnel and excellent menu.

I ate dinner here one evening and got "Zwiebelschnitzel vom Scwwein" in breadcrump with onions and special potato, a really nice experience, ad to that I got a BIG bear. The restaurant offer a lot of autentic German food that could be enjoyed in cosy German surrounding

Wir waren Fronleichnam das erste Mal im Restaurant "Zur Hölzernen Klinke" und waren total begeistert. Das Essen war hervorragend lecker, der Service nett und locker drauf! Das Gesamtpaket stimmt hier. Preislich ist alles absolut in Ordnung. Für's Geld bekommt man leckeres und vor allem frisches Essen.Empfehlung: Das argentinische Rumpsteak vom heiÃen Stein mit Bratkartoffeln und das Jäger-Schnitzel sind absolut zu empfehlen!Wir können dieses Restaurant auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen und freuen uns schon auf unseren nächsten Besuch!Vor allem für Wanderer und groÃe Gruppen ist das Restaurant gut geeignet. Es gibt sowohl drinnen als auch drauÃen (Biergarten) genügend Plätze.Das Restaurant befindet sich in der unmittelbaren Nähe vieler Wanderwege. Parken vor'm Haus geht auch - kostenlos! Alles in allem: 5 Sterne!

Set at the start/finish to a number of walking routes through a stream filled valley. This restaurant provided a very pleasant light lunch.
