Smakelijk Eten & Drinken is located in Vlaardingen, a bit more remote from Rotterdam centre. However they won the 2015 Pollepel Award and now I know why : food very nice, surprising combinations. Wine choice rather limited but a balanced selection. Service just right : friendly, well informed, personal yet not too cozy.Atmosphere and ambiance relaxed, you feel at home here without being overwhelmed by other guests. Price/quality very much OK, even with top wine selection. This is an absolute recommendation.

I've never come across so many different types of pancakes! This may not be so unusual in Holland, but it was new to us. We were in a large group, so it was a challenge for staff to get us all fed and watered, but all things considered, they did pretty well. It was a warmish Sunday afternoon so it was a popular venue with its lovely outside sitting area. It caters well for families with a childrens activity area, and there are different eating areas inside as well as out. The pancakes were pretty yummy, and we shared a desert of 3 different types of icecream including a fruit sorbet which was delicious. Pancakes were round about 10 euro and for what you got, quite filling and good value. Highly recommended; walk it off with a walk around the adjacent park!

Eating without cutlery that we need to try! Based on some vouchers we got a (limited) 3-course menu. Starter was choice of 2 soups or breadbasket. We choose both (different) soups. They came in a cup but no spoon of course. Easy to drink and good of taste (mushroom and mustard soup). Portion size was rather small and no bread of some sort included but it was good enough. Main we choose for salmon steak with jacked potato (with herb butter) and satay (pork) and fries. That were some decent portions, just good. Only we had to ask for extra peanut sauce. Mayonnaise was complimentary and we ordered vegetables of the day (only 1,50 euros, as was the extra peanut sauce). Dessert was coffee (we took tea) 'complete' (saying: condiments) with a alcoholic beverage. The 'complete' was a single packed spelt cookie (tasted excellent have to say) and the alcoholic beverage was absent. Once we asked for it it was no problem and we got the alcoholic beverage. Still I won't complain because the voucher was really a good deal and they were really, really friendly. The ambiance is great location good and plenty of (free) parking space. This venue also does large groups and such, would be great to have a party and eating cutlery-free with a bunch of colleagues. There were plenty amenities to clean your hands on the table, water with lemon, wet-clothes and (for each chair) a cover for your clothes in case you might spill the food. We were close to the kitchen and saw some other dishes come by which looked very very good. Both chefs in the kitchen really loved their jobs. That was clear to see! Also the normal prices that you would have to pay for the food are not that bad at all. They have some special German beer on draft. Have to say not super-special, but something else than what other restaurants/bars have.

A small lovely restaurant on a great location!The food was very good. It was creative and modern with good flavors, not the best I had in Holland yet but definitely worth trying. The young team tries it best to satisfy you. The service could be a little more professional for a Michelin star, nothing big but small details that weren't perfect yet.If you like great food on a great location I can definitely recommend this restaurant. Value wise it was superb!
