Find out what French restaurants to try in Leiden. Home to the Netherlands’ oldest university and the birthplace of Rembrandt, Leiden also served as a several-year stop-off between England and the New World for America’s Pilgrim fathers in the early 17th century. Today, lovely Leiden boasts the second-largest Dutch city center after Amsterdam. The National Museum of Antiquities has an impressive collection of Egyptian artifacts. The Hortus Botanicus, established in 1590, was the site of the planting of Holland’s first tulip bulbs in 1593.

I'd ordered a Lamb Tajine and the food was indeed served in a Tajine pot, thats where the quality ended. The dish dish didn't actually have any Tajine spices and was more a french style dish, oregano, tarragon etc. I don't think they should advertise it as Moroccan when it clearly wasn't. Also, there were only a few tiny pieces of lamb. My girlfriend ordered a potato carrot stew and received what appeared to be beans from a tin.The red house wine (Merlot if I recall correctly) was brilliant!Dear,We'd like to let you know that Restaurant Catootje aan de Markt has a new owner since January First this year.We have a small menu consisting of fresh and healthy meals from the French-Moroccan cuisine. I had my Graduation/ Final Dissertation discussion celebration here with my parents. I just love this place because is cozy, calm, quiet and with a very traditional dutch atmosphere. I am so found of the green tablecloths with flower prints and the cats staring at you from the Windows. They serve tasty soups with warm bread and traditional dutch cuisine. Very kind and polite service too.

We've been here (from Scotland) a few times before and returned again this trip for lunch, champagne then more champagne a few days later. It's lovely and relaxing sitting outside watching people and boats go by, and also inside too when the rain came on. The owner is very friendly and staff are nice. I'd highly recommend visiting Jeanpagne. I wish I was back there right now!

I had dinner here with my Aunt and her husband last Saturday night. The atmosphere was great and the food was superb. We opted for the menu chosen by the restaurant for that night. Each dish was accompanied by a glass of wine that was especially selected by the resident sommelier. The staff member in question was highly knowledgable about why he chose the specific wines and how they complimented the dish. Small portions, but filling once you've had all 4 courses. I'll definitely come back.

We were 5 couples prebooked for 5 course evening dinner. Arrived on time, seated immediately, water delivered immediately - still or sparkling options. Beautiful fresh baked bread kept coming; wine glasses topped up; service professional and seamless, food courses imaginitive, colourful and delicious. Outdoor seating well lit and comfortable. Sun protection for early part of evening. All dishes introduced and explained. Time between courses perfect. Not busy (Sunday). Works like a Swiss Watch. Adding on the decor, ambience, restrooms, noise level and comfort I find I can't take off any points - so a perfect 10! Well done.

We chose this restaurant because it was close to our hotel. Having read rather old reviews, we thought the €75 per person menu, matching wines to each dish would suit us. It is not our intention to insult the chef but only one dish was well prepared, The red wine served with it was a mismatch. We left thinking that there was neither flair in the cooking nor intuition when choosing wines to accompany the food. The lovely waitress repeated over and over her "set script" to the diners, who appeared to be tourists as we were. We thought it over priced and very pretentious to the point of discomfort.

I enjoyed every bit it of the experience and I would definitely skip any of the nearby rated restaurants to repeat this dinner.

Water and coffee was complimentary which really gave an overall feeling of exemplary service. Food fantastic and service great and price reasonable.
