Wonderful food which justifies its rather high-end pricing and would justify a five start review. But oh how they need a more experienced Chef Patron to mentor them and get the front of house and overall management up to scratch.I know it must be very difficult to get and keep good quality staff and these here are so young that they’ve most likely never experienced the sort of restaurant that this is aspiring to be. But, as a customer, that isn’t my problem - it’s up to the restaurant to sort out. There were four of is. We ordered a bottle of rose wine. When it arrived it had been opened and was in a wine cooler - and it was just put onto the table by a waitress who then walked away. We spotted it wasn’t the wine we had ordered so we called her back over and our comment rather threw her into a panic. She called over another waitress who rather off-handedly said “oh yes, we’d run out of the one you’d ordered”! Well fair enough but I’d expect you to tell us that, not just give us a substitute and hope that we didn’t notice. We said we’d keep the bottle they’d brought but asked to taste it - so one of us got a taste and then, having said it was OK, the bottle was put back into the cooler and we were left to pour our own! Some simple training would help - take the wine to the table, show the label to the person who ordered it, open it in front of them, offer a taste, pour wine for those who want it and only then put it into a wine cooler. We wanted a bottle of white wine to go with our main course. It was impossible to get anyone’s attention until they brought us our food. We were then told that they’d run out of the wine we wanted - “we had 12 bottles but they’ve all gone”. So, at 8pm on a Friday evening they’d run out of 2 wines from a not particularly extensive wine list. I know that stocking up on wine is a big investment for a restaurant so can sort of understand it but, again as a customer, the wine is part of the dining experience and they need to sharpen up on this to justify the price-point.So yes, go to this restaurant, enjoy the food (I particularly recommend the celeriac starter), but don’t exoect too much from the overall experience.Hi I’m glad you thought the food was excellent, your right about the staffing problem i face, trying to get good staff and keep them is literally the bane of my life!! I can train and train, but when its service time unfortunately I’m in the kitchen ensuring the food is excellent, But i have a very experienced manager starting next week, and this should solve my problems, with regards to the wine you are completely correct we won best restaurant in south west and the bookings went crazy, so yes we did run out, I’m sorry about this hopefully you’ll try us again, Jamie x

We chose to book a table at the Jetty on the last night of our holiday, to celebrate a fabulous week in Salcombe. The food certainly didn’t disappoint - both course were absolutely superb. So tasty, beautifully served - perfect every way. The major disappointment was the service. Initially we were asked several times whether we were ready to order, by some very attentive waiters, however this was early in the evening and as the restaurant got busier (there was a wonderful atmosphere on a a Thursday evening) it was very clear that the restaurant was significantly understaffed. The chowder was delicious, however we had to struggle to get attention of a waiter to bring us a roll (we just seem to have been forgotten as other diners were served bread without asking). When our main course came, I had a small dish of mashed potato, but it was accompanied by a serving spoon. We would have loved another drink with our meal, however no one came over to ask us, so we didn’t have one.I would highly recommend this restaurant for the quality of the food, however it is hugely disappointing that the service lets it down.I asked for the discretionary service charge to be removed from the bill, which was done very quickly, as sadly I did not think that the service we had had warranted the charge.Dear Membland Thank you for taking the time to write this review and whilst I am pleased you enjoyed the food on your visit, I am of course disappointed to read that tee service you received deteriorated during your evening with us. I can assure you that this will be addressed with the Restaurant Manager and his Team. I thank you for highlighting this to us and should you wish to, please feel free to contact me directly on [email protected]. Thank you once again and I hope to hear from you in due course.
