A charming family run restaurant managed personally by the Foyles for a century. We focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients, (sourced locally where possible), specialising in Seafood and traditional Irish Favourites, there is something to suit every taste. T

Dinner for 2 on a weekday night was perfectly respectable. I had a great mushroom starter followed by rack of lamb which was good, but nothing outstanding. The restaurant (like it's hotel) seems to cater for older clientele - nothing wrong with that, but it felt like they were content to be just slightly above average.

On our trip in Ireland, this was one of the best restaurants we have been to. We went twice while we stayed in Clifden. The service is good. The food is splendid. The crabcakes and scallops were devine. The downside is that the tables are slightly small and very near to oneanother. Recommended!

We drove up to Clifden via the Wild Atlantic Way and came across this cute town nestled between hils and the sea. After looking at TripAdvisor for restaurant recommendations, we decided on Macdara's and we were not dissaponted. The quaint style and great live music were amazing. The good was some of the best in Ireland that we had and the seafood chowder was the best my husband and I have ever had. For non seafood lovers (our daugther) there was a chicken pasta which was wonderful. You not only need to go to Clifde, you need to eat at Macdara's. There is a a beautiful patio out the back that overlooks the sea but we got there late and ate inside so we could listen to the music.

We were four people eating in this "restaurant" tonight. We all selected different dishes and everyone was very disappointed by the food. Overcooked, no taste, too cold... Now the question is to know who is going to be sick tomorrow... Not to mention the staff quite rude with customers.

A grand country house setting and atmosphere with a lovely large conservatory bar area. We came for a birthday celebration dinner. The food was excellent - classy, well prepared and presented. However we were underwhelmed by the service. The servers were friendly but not very confident - youngsters recently arrived and still lacking in training and experience. Service was very slow. We arrived on time for our booking and were shown to the bar. Nothing much happened. Eventually we asked for menus, made a choice, and then had to ask to be shown to our table. Our first course arrived a full 45 minutes after our table booking time. The kitchen seemed overwhelmed by a large group staying at the hotel (so they should have been prepared). Also the group was pretty noisy, which rather diminished the atmosphere for us.

The Lodge restaurant has a winner in Chef Mark Jacobson. From the warm homemade sourdough bread with garlic butter to the salad of local greens to the entrees, which in our case were mixed seafood and root vegetable gratin, to the homemade ice cream—no detail was overlooked. Each course was lovingly prepared and artistically presented. It’s clear that Chef Jacobson is on his way to stardom. The staff, led by Jessica, made us feel welcome and special. Who knew days of hiking could end in such gustatory bliss!

From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left, we experienced friendliness, professionalism, great quality food and reasonable prices. The restaurant doesn’t take reservations so it’s “first come” We we’re lucky enough to walk in and get a table straight away, but a wait in the lovely old bar would have been worth it. I would highly recommend this restaurant and bar and I look forward to returning. The food is excellent and the staff were helpful and friendly. The place has a sense of being well managed with attention to quality.
