My 4th time eating at The Pass, and least enjoyable, sadly. 1st time under Tom Kemble, it wasn't that food wasn't delicious, it was the atmosphere has completely changed, with the glass partition. Surely thats the whole point of Going to "The Pass" to experience the kitchen?... The TVs have been covered, so now its just a restaurant with no windows??.... We went on a Sunday so maybe thats why lacking atmosphere, also "new" waitress who was a bit giggly, and inexperienced. The Pass has been an absolute favourite for a few years now, but I wont be rushing back!Dear Tara,Firstly may I thank you for your feedback. I am naturally disappointed to read that on this occasion your experience did not meet with your expectations as from previous visits. Having enjoyed a matinee in the West End, then found nearby restaurants absolutely heaving, we decided to catch a train back to Horley, and tried Il Sorriso. And what a find! The waiting staff were really friendly, and seemed to interchange between tables seamlessly. The food was sensational. My wife really enjoyed her macaroni, while I demolished my seafood risotto, packed full of octopus, cockles, mussels, shrimps, prawns and topped with a king prawn. A nice glass of Italian red rounded things off nicely. About half the tables were taken, and there was a lovely ambiance among the diners. I will definitely be back.We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review of your positive experience with us. We always aim to provide the very best authentic Italian experience and we are pleased to hear that we have achieved it on your first visit! Do come back and visit us again soon and try some of our other dishes.

Went to visit this restaurant in Crawley with my parents and unfortunately, my experience could not have been worse. The place was nearly empty but still service was awful. We had go to looking for the waiter/waitress just to get the menus for the place. After waiting some more, we finally got our order taken.Since this is a "Spanish tapas" place, we decided to go with multiple small starters, both hot and cold. Most of the dishes were ok, nothing that stands out particularly, but then we got to the Spanish croquetas... First batch of two portions comes in and they are literally frozen on the inside, we tried the other one just to see that it wasn't an odd mistake, but all well frozen. We called the waiter, told him about this and kindly requested to get them replace. After a short while, they brought another couple of croquetas portions... And again all frozen inside... Mind you, this is now 4 different dishes that were delivered and not cooked properly. The restaurant didn't even check the replacement order to see if it was fine after the issue was highlighted. After this we decided to cut out losses and cancel the order. No real apology from the restaurant, no effort to make things right... Just awful service and food. No respectable did establishment will deliver twice a poorly cooked dish, not to mention the fact that probably all their food options are frozen based. This is certainly not a good representation of what a Spanish restaurant is, the are certainly far better options even in Crawley if you crave this type of food, otherwise Haywards Heath or Guildford are good alternatives for Spanish tapas. Can't stress this enough, avoid this place and save yourself a bad experience that might tarnish you opinion on Spanish food.Dear pipebk. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We are sorry that your experience with us did not meet your expectations on this occasion. We aim to deliver top quality food and service. We have spoken to front of house and kitchen staff and hopefully we can offer you only the best food and service should you wish to return. We would be delighted to welcome you back so you can give us another chance . Hispalis management

Finally made a long awaited visit to this one of three restaurants at South Lodge (regular at Penny Hill one of the same group of hotels, so expectations were high)We had booked an early table and as requested we were directed to the bar for a drink, unfortunately the bartender was absent and everything seemed to be not quite ready for guests to arrive. Finally we were served and the champagne (Taittinger)we ordered was correctly chilled and well served, I should point out that this and all the other wines from a more than adequate list are pushing to break point the upper limits of the relevant price bandsOur order was taken in the bar which I appreciate with a good balance of humour and deference, and were offered a terrace table as an alternative to the restaurant itself but declined Food wise I have very few negative comments as it was all very good, well cooked and presented, all the negatives were around the quality and skill levels of service, the contrast and gaps between the mâitre de and everyone else was enormous and it was this that limited the overall experience of Camellia and stops it being in the top echelons Highlights were, the tartare of beef which was an individual take on the classic and a very good take at that, the fillet of Sussex beef was exceptional and cooked to perfection, and a citron parfait with a gin and tonic granita/sorbet was superb and not over sweetened! However, one of my guests had ordered Stone Bass and one the Bream and unfortunately these were served to the wrong individuals, still more unfortunately the waitress disagreed initially and once she had sorted herself out the great cooking had become the victim of time The sourdough bread served with the amuse bouche was distinctive by it’s lack of sourdough smell or flavour and seemed like mass produced but I don’t know Despite my earlier comments on the wine list a bottle of Mâcon Villages turned out to be a particularly good example (I know this wine region quite well), you should try it. In addition to this a glass of a Sicilian Nero lived up to reputation, the initial and normal strong alcohol nose quickly giving way to dry red fruits and tanninsThe English cheese plate was pleasant enough, however the waiter did not know what the cheeses were and made no introduction or explanation of them, a rwal pity as one of them was an exceptionally strong (Isle of Wight??? Possibly) and if sampled first would render the other cheeses redundant Overall, good Mâitre De, poor waiting staff, really good food (importantly), good wines. As I said ALMOST, but not show casing Mr Gibson well enough, and I think I will try The Pass instead next time Firstly may I thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to the Camellia Restaurant. I am delighted to see that there were many aspects of your experience that you enjoyed especially the food and wine. The restaurant it lovely, nice and cosy and there is outdoor seating too. Food is absolutely amazing!! The staff are very friendly and helpful - there's no baby changing facility but they do everything they can to help you, including sacrificing some comfortable chairs to make into a little table to change baby on (this made me giggle).

This restaurant has just received a Michelin Star for the eighth year running. My son and his girlfriend took myself and my wife for our first visit to celebrate my birthday last Saturday. I was a bit worried because I have one or two alergies and I am probably a bit fussy anyway. I need not have worried. First of all the meet and greet was impressive, a taking of coats, escorted upstairs and handed over to others who took us to our table. The room is lovely, old timber-framed and comfortable. My son had been here several times before and we chose the six-course tasting menu. We took the option of having especially selected glasses of wine with each course. Before we ordered we were asked about dietary issues. I explained mine and also mentioned that I did not drink wine wine or cava. No problem, they were totally flexible and the chef will adjust the course for an individuals' issue or preference. Nothing was too much trouble. Now the meal. Every course was perfect with excellent in terms of presentation and taste. The sommelier (a highly knowledgeable wine professional who is an expert in every aspect of wine service and food and wine pairing) came to the table as each course was served and explained what wine he was serving and why. Each wine perfectly matched the food course; in my case, various red wines were selected just for me. My family had a combination of wines, red, white and rosé. I eat out a great deal, mainly abroad, but this was one of the finest meals and one of the best eating experiences I have ever had. Every one of the staff were charming and we left with full tummies and warm hearts. Thank you so much.
