1777 Kaffee Restaurant Bar

In «1777» we offer a cosmopolitan menu with the emphasis on European dishes. We are particularly influenced by Viennese coffee-house culture, with a modern twist, and by simple Mediterranean cuisine. Our menu changes in response to guests’ requirements an

Our family was looking for a place to have dinner in Zurich. We were about to sit down at an outdoor table for four at a nice restaurant on a busy Basel street but a woman cut in front of us and sat down, calling her husband to the table. No other table was available. So we opened up TripAdvisor and found that nearby 1777 had good reviews. We had some trouble finding 1777, not realizing it was set in a courtyard off the nearest street. As it turned out, the woman did us a favor because we loved the quieter but cheerful charm of 1777. Drinks, dinner and dessert were excellent and our waiter, Guy, was very friendly and attentive. We're glad we found this restaurant and will visit it again when we're in Basel.

After viewing the ruins we had the delight of visiting Rotisserie Raurica and the pleasure of meeting Sylvia, the wonderful hostess of this restaurant. The service was impeccable. We both had the filet with vegetables and were very happy. There is a wine cellar below and the wine Sylvia recommended was fantastic. I would highly recommend this place for its decor, food, and service. We hope to return someday.

Ufer7 Basel

Reviewed By jej9001

I live in New York City and let’s just start by saying I’m a food snob. I hate playing high prices for a poor meal. I had such hopes for Ufer7. It got great reviews on this site. Ufer7 sits right on the Rhine River in Basel. We arrived at 7:30 pm on a Friday night. The terrace was hopping. The inside of the space is stucco with wood tables and bare decorative bulbs. I little jarring for my taste. The menu lists multiple small items to share on a platter. We choose two to start with. Falafel and a mushroom soup option. The menu was in Swiss German so it was a little tricky. The top of the menu says food should be pleasing to the eye then the tongue. The food looked great but it all tasted like sandpaper. The falafel was dry and tasteless and I could not discern a mushroom taste in the soup. We shared a fresh fish plate which was composed of shrimp with the heads on, red rice, bok choy and salmon. All very boring. The meal was followed by two slices of carrot cake that I could swear came out of the freeze. You know that sort of wet dense freezer burn taste. Either way I took one bite and decided it was not worth the calories! What were the good points? The staff, they were lovely and helpful. I was a little surprised when the bill came to 142 Franks for 2 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers a dessert and a tea. Not way out for Swiss restaurants but when I gave the waitress 150 F she just walked away with the change. As an American I would have tipped but assuming you should just take a tip is a little off putting. I’m hoping the chef was sick that night and they will be on their game in the future otherwise definitely not worth it except for drinks on the terrace.

Wirtshaus zum Schlussel

Reviewed By Mellyagain

There are many good restaurants in the Basel area, but this was the best one I visited during my week-long stay. The Wirtshaus zum Schlüssel is a lovely place to dine in Muttenz, on the outskirts of Basel. The food was amazing and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting. Every dish was prepared just right with the utmost care from high quality ingredients. The prices are very reasonable. We had the fake/false snails (falschi Schnägge ... actually beef cubes baked with herb butter) on recommendation of the house and we were NOT disappointed! The Wienerschnitzel also looked delicious. My colleague said he was going to go home and dream about the food, it was so good. If you're staying at Hotel Baslertor, it's a ~10 minute stroll down a nice street in Muttenz. Give the Schlüssel a try. You won't regret it!

As you would expect, this 3 Michelin star restaurant is excellent in all respects. The Chef de Cuisine Peter Knogl was in the kitchen and Le Menu of 5 courses (without cheese) at 220 CHF provided some exciting, innovative dishes as follows: Hamachi japonais, ponzu, radish and avocado; langoustine, madras curry and Granny Smith apple; St. Pierre and green beans; Bresse pigeon and Tasmanian pepper; and Champagne, raspberries, mint and kalmansi. The Pigeon was our favourite, but they were all delicious and the presentation superb. The wine suggested was an excellent bottle of local Swiss pinot noir (less than 10km from Basel). The service was very good, perhaps a little understated. Delightful, moderate-sized room in this historic hotel made for a lovely evening.Dear GuestMany thanks for your detailed description and your great feedback of your recent visit at the Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl. We are delighted to read that with our cuisine, service and wine recommendation, we could create a perfect dinner evening. We went to this trendy restaurant..because we follow the comments...even if the restaurant is not in the center. It offers all for a talented..and this cook definitely is, to be THE place for all the rather also trendy ,young with a bit of money people. - You cross the street and enter passing all the costy bikes and the beautiful garden..and enter in a dark restaurant where you are seated hopefully next to another group of successful people enjoying loudly. We were lucky to be so far away but this had the opposite effect that they forget you. Waitresses are nice..very informal..they talk to the people they seem to know...but they are SLOW..inefficient and to WAIT (it is an expensive place) for bread..20 minutes..for the dish (excellent fish BUT NOTHING WITH IT)..another 20 minutes..and another 20 for the smallest dessert we have ever eaten! My partner got a stiff neck from turning to the waiter to get the bill. But we could see that the locals...liked it..and they seem to have all eaten before because we left hungry but the bill was as quite expensive for what you get.To summ up:This owner responds to a specific client who would not go a normal restaurant...The plates are hand made...the fish comes from a happy fish and so does the meat come from a happy animal. the wine comes from hand picked owners..and you feel so good!but if you search for a place after a hard day and want to EAT and feel welcome..you might be disappointed.

Located in a small non-descript town, from outside the restaurant does not impress, but inside there is a nice modern design, elegant but still casual. Very good design.Nice garden seating area. The food is really excellent. I had as a starter the scallops- wow, not only it looked great but it was extremely tasty. As main dish I had the veal which was excellent as well, the dessert strawberry with ice cream was very good as well, but the best dessert was the sorrel sorbet which was absolutely top! Overall the food is really excellent and is at least at one star Michelin level.Ver good wine list, of course with lots of German wines from the region.Service was casual but friendly. What would have made the experience even better: no one asked at the end of the lunch if we were happy - a gesture that could make a difference.Price level for food is good for the quality you get. Only the wines are a bit overpriced for Germany. Concussion: great experience, I can highly recommend this restaurant for food lovers who love a casual but nice environment.
