We were at Don Quijote near Talca today for lunch. It is easy to find just outside on the road to San Clemente. A long white wall and big letters as well as a large porta show you the way in. We were there at 1.30 pm and there was no car on the large parking lot. When we came up the stairs a man in the usual blue shirt for waiters in Chile was walking up. He spoke no English but we managed to get into the large dining room with are limited Spanish. The place was dead empty but nicely looking with a glass front opening out to a gorgeous landscape with a big pool. Our wish to sit outside in the shade was denied. Too hot! What was probably true. The menu was quite different to what we had seen repeatedly in Chile. Lomo, Corvina, Salmon. But what the waiter said was exactly like that. We understood that´s all he could offer today. In ignoring that we ordered a noodle salad, a dish with spaghetti and shrimps and a salad with baked chicken. The first salad came up just as a plane salad with some egg. The spaghetti dish was totally tasteless and the chicken dish was the highlight with a chinese spoon with a yellowish paste remembering of some glue. On the menu it was offered as Dijon mustard with sugar.Talking about wine: Considering that it was way over 30° C / 100°F we refused the waiters offer on red wine and asked for white wine. After some search he came back with a bottle of local Chardonnay in a warm bottle. We asked for a Sauvignon Blanc. He said the Chardonnay is the only one he has. We asked if it was a cooling problem. He said, no, he will cool the Chardonny. So we had this one. Fortunately we had worse Chardonnays in Chile as had not the usual oak flavor. We paid very little (only 18.000 pesos appr. 30$ US including tip) and counted it for the view. Service, offerings and food were ridiculous. Don´t go there. It looks like a money laundering machine to us.
