Reviews on Chinese food in Shanghai, Shanghai Region, China. Shanghai is a huge and sprawling metropolis that draws people to it from all over the world. It’s a place of contradictions where East mixes seamlessly with the West, and where the old is constantly bumping up against the new. Find a neighborhood full of Western comforts, immerse yourself in Shanghainese life, or live in the future today. Few other cities in the world – if any at all – have such a wide range of experiences to offer.

I classify this restaurant as "poor". It is Food for Foreigners and also Bill for Foreigners. If you love the atmosphere... go in, eat before and have a drink with some snacks. If you want try Chinese cuisine, well: look for other places.

Combining South-Eastern Chinese cuisine with Cantonese flair, the Summer Palace enhances gastronomical sensation with a poetic visual dreamscape. Inspired by the traditional Chinese ink paintings in dynamic colours and commonly accented with motifs of pea
Part of the Shangri-La complex it is a well known restaurant. It has the classic selection with a few specialties and the service was quite fast but not top friendly. The stunning Lobby Lounge in the hotelâs River Wing features magnificent floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the river promenade and the Bund.It is an excellent meeting spot and a place to enjoy drinks or tea.
This is on the river side, bright, wide, comfortable. Smoking allowed inside! If you are a non smoker, you should check around for avoiding smoke. Menu is ok, I ordered a Chinese tea and paid 178 RMB ~ 25 USD.

Clearly this restaurant gets visited by many expatriats. Didn't see anything special about it - it was a huge diner, lights fully dimmed, service mediocre. No knowledge of allergies (gluten in my case), and no desire to help out. I ended up with stir fried broccoli The food at our table was okay, not great. Too exoensive for what it is

Eating Hot Pot is an amazing experience - but it can be difficult to handle as a foreigner not speaking Chinese. However, at Haidilao Hot Pot they will go the extra mile to help you choose your food! Even if that means having to use a tablet with written sentences! The quality of the food was also super tasty and the portions were quite big! It is not super cheap, but definitely worth it! Make a reservation though on Fridays or Weekend - otherwise you might have to wait a while for a table (although their waiting area is delightfull and comes with games, free snacks and tea/water!)

Din Tai Fung Restaurant is famous for its xiaoling bao (soup dumpling). You can watch them make the dumplings. The are several of these upscale restaurants throughout Shanghai and China. We especially like the pork xiaoling bao. Also great is the spicy shrimp dumpling and the pork chop with fried rice. I put the fried rice in the spicy shrimp dumpling sauce which makes a great combination. The hot and sour soup and the drunken chicken are also great dishes. To round things out, Din Tai Fung Restaurant also offers vegetable dishes and other small plates and soups. There are really good local restaurants that also serve the similar bao and dishes at a much more reasonable prices.

My daughter and I celebrated my last evening in town visiting her. We are so glad that we chose Jin Xuan for our last dinner. We were seated at a window table with sweeping views of The Bund. Our waiter, Claude, provided friendly and attentive service. The food was delicious and unique - we had dishes that we never had eaten before. I ordered the rock shrimp with black truffle (one of the signature dishes of Jin Xuan) and my daughter offered the beef and tomato fried rice. Our dessert - sesame balls with egg yolk - was amazing. We did not expect it to be so delicious. Again, we had never had this dessert before. What a wonderful way to spend my last evening in Shanghai! We will return!Dear VeronicaJKo,Warmest greetings from the Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong and thank you for your review on TripAdvisor community. It is our pleasure to know that you and your daughter have enjoyed the dinner time at Jin Xuan.
