We came upon Columba by chance on route to flodigarry, we returned several times, the range of food was excellent, every dietary want catered for. Our hotel chef should visit. Warm, welcoming staff with an amazing ethos. Thank you for your hospitality. We enjoyed sitting in your very unusual building. A true gem.

Due to the rating on tripadvisor we thought we would give this place a try when passing. We ordered tomato and basil soup with home-bread bread, followed by nougat cake and tiffin. The soup was hot and delicious and the home-bread was soft and dreamy which is exactly what was needed when it was raining outside. Both cakes were made with dark chocolate, very rich but incredible tasty! Inside there is a collection of artwork on sale which is interesting to look at, there were only 3 tables and a weaving machine, the owner does say if you wish a demonstration on how to weave this could be arranged. In the cafe beside the menu, Ellishadder Art Cafe explains how it started and how they grow a lot of the ingredients used which is very inspiring. This is a lovely little place which is worth a visit.

The Pier is a great place to sit and soak up the surroundings while waiting for your ferry. On the day I visited the weather was pretty ropey and water was seeping in through a window that needed replacing. I made a bold, grown up move ordering langoustines which I've never really had before and they scared the life out of me when the monsters turned up. I wasn't aware they're served cold and did struggle a bit with them at first. It reminded me of a scene in the Mr Bean movie.

Here to catch the late ferry to Tarbert. A captive audience all waiting for the ferry but only one member of staff behind the bar (although I counted seven staff in total). The restaurant amazingly was shut prior to the ferry sailing and I saw several large groups just walk out. A large room but only perhaps seating for 12 in 3 corner style settees. People were asking if they could sit in the large, but closed. restaurant area, but appeared not to be allowed (the staff member vaccuming there didn't help either). Service was poor with one of the unfriendliest barmaids I have ever seen, although the locally brewed ale was very good. This place has a captive crowd twice a day but does not seem to want their custom (or money).

Orasay Tearoom

Reviewed By inesa87

I am a tour guide in Scotland and I was doing a 3 day tour in the Highlands and Isle of Skye with my clients. I always go for lunch to the Orasay tearoom in Uig and I bring my clients there. However, I received very bad customer service from the tearoom owner's daughter.I ordered a sandwich, then she told me she did not have this type anymore as one of my clients chose the same type of sandwich, then I ordered another type and she brought the new order as well as the old order which she had told me they were out of. Anyway, I told her I did not order 2 sandwiches for myself, I obviously ordered one after I was told they were out of my first choice. She kept telling me in front of my clients that it was my fault, that the sandwich was already prepared in the kitchen and that she has to serve it. While I understand that there was a miscommunication, it was the way she behaved with me as a loyal client who brings in business. I am not going to come anymore to this business as I was really frustrated from the service that was provided to me and my clients.

Uig Hotel Restaurant

This restaurant was recommended by our B&B host. The food was excellent. My husband had the seafood platter special, with langoustines, squat lobster, smoked fish, fish pate, scallops and squid. He loved every bit of it. I had the duck special, with breast of duck perfectly cooked with carrots and raisins. The service was friendly. And the sunset over Uig harbor was beautiful. We were very happily surprised by this meal.

If the name conjures up thoughts of a somewhat seedy, fisherman’s drinking pub smelling of fish, immediately banish them. For a start, it’s on the opposite side of the small bay from where the Western Isles ferry leaves, but more to the point as soon as you walk in you sense you are somewhere special. The decor, the attention to detail, and the cleanliness are second to none. There are only four rooms, and ours was spacious with high class modern facilities, eg a large rainfall shower. The food is outstanding. My only picky observation is that the dinner menu has only four main course choices and doesn’t vary through the week although there is also a special at weekends, so if you are staying a while, as we were, you may run out of options. But enough of that, it’s well presented food by excellent attentive staff, and the breakfasts are excellent. The restaurant, comfy lounge and enticing bar are downstairs, where you will also find the helpful and friendly (although he will deny it) host. Parking is right at the door. There isn’t much to Uig but if you really want shopping try Glasgow. The scenery is utterly superb and there are great walks, all you have to hope for is good weather. Just go. But remember, Skye is a huge island so you need to think about your itinerary and not be too ambitious otherwise you won’t get out of your car.
