Reviews on British food in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Looking out over the city of St. John's, you may be reminded of a mini San Francisco (minus the cable cars). St. John's provides the ideal balance between nature and nightlife, from the East Coast Trail and its stunning scenery to the colorful entertainment district along George Street. Although it's the largest city in Newfoundland, the vibe is still very small-town. You'll feel welcome in the City of Legends!

Three St. John's natives advised us that this was "the" place for fish and chips downtown. It was! The fish was offered two ways and the portions were large. As an alternative, I had the turkey wrap, which was stuffed with lean white meat. The fries were some of the best I've ever eaten! They have a great selection of craft beers, of which I heartily recommend the Cappuccino Stout. The servers were friendly and attentive. But do note: it's not a huge place, and it does fill up quickly.

When a restaurant disappoints, I seldom bother to write a review... but decided to make an exception in this case. We were there for a special event and while the venue itself was really quite nice, the food service was really lacking, and when asked if I could have a plate of cheese rather than the chicken wings on offer, was presented with two sad-looking kraft cheese slices on a plate. Perhaps it was a joke, who knows. Worse perhaps that when offered a menu to order an alternative, neither of the two servers designated to work with our group, neither of them ever bothered to take my order. Our visit may have just been a bad night, or our "servers" were perhaps new and inexperienced, but overall, the whole experience was a flop.Good Evening, I am so sorry that your experience didn't go well. We thrive to provide excellent service and food but it seems we failed on your visit. Please contact me at your pleasure so we can discuss furtherLarry WisemanFood and Beverage Manager

I was on a short business trip to St. Johns and had only a two night stay. I stayed at the Fairfield Marriott hotel which is across the parking lot from Fionn’s. I was impressed with the restaurant’s look. Very much a great Irish pub look. I ate in the lounge area on a Tuesday night at 7:00. The place was not too busy, and 2 servers were waiting tables. The servers were in very short tartan skirts, made the visit even more enjoyable. My server was very nice and friendly and welcomed me to the restaurant. Many craft and local beers on draught at the bar. Also some good local bottled beers. I had an Iceberg beer (lager beer that is claimed to be brewed with real iceberg water - see photo). I ordered French onion soup (classic with melted gruyere). Entree was the Guinness Steak and Mushroom Bowl, served with a side salad. The soup was good, though the serving size was a bit smaller than I expected. The taste and flavor was good though more onions would have been appreciated. Very good flavor that kept me wanting more. The Steak and Mushroom bowl was also good recommendation from my server. It was served in an open fashion with a Yorkshire pudding crust. The bowl was actually more of short pastry perhaps about an inch tall. The meat and mushroom was very savory but a little dry (maybe add a bit more Guinness?). The Yorkshire pudding crust was not very flakey and somewhat chewy and may be due to being over cooked. This can be improved along with adding some liquid to the filling. It’s a chain, but with acceptable quality. Service was fast and attentive. If I return, I will try the Shepherd’s Pie. Others near me ordered it and it looked very nice. Hey Road King, thanks a lot for choosing to dine with us during your business trip. You know where to find us next time that you're in town!
