We visited The Foresters on a Saturday lunchtime, and chose it because it was equidistant between three couples who meet occasionally for a catch-up; also because of the good reviews on TA. We were immediately made to feel right at home and the service throughout our stay was excellent. We all had a main course and a pudding; main meals were tasty and portions big enough to make you wonder if dessert was such a good idea, although we were served two portions of pie with chips, and thinking that it came with mash (actually thereâs a choice but we werenât asked) weâd ordered extra fat chips (which were good, but not so good that I didnât want the mash I was expecting!) Puddings were good old school classics - sticky toffee pudding, crumble, lemon sponge - and none of them were disappointing. I have a feeling weâll be meeting up there again.

Popped I after a night out in Manchester. Obviously a locals pub it was friendly and spacious with a good range of beers on tap. Feels like this is well supported by the community and, although we were only here for a single 'last orders' pint, it'd be a geat place t spend an evening people watching

This was our first visit since it was refurbished. The decor is nice and pleasant and it was very busy with some large parties. We had booked and were seated quickly. The staff were pleasant. My husband had pork and was happy with it. I had roast beef which looked lovely on arrival. However my beef was tough and even after asking for a steak knife, I couldn't eat most of it. I did tell three of the staff but unfortunately I didn't get an apology until after the bill was paid in full. Not good enough.

We went on a Sunday for a roast dinner and we were not disappointed. There was a good choice of roasts, pies and other dishes. Portions are generous and there is a bit of a wait, as all the food is cooked fresh to order, but that's not a problem. Great value for £7.50 for a full roast beef dinner including potatoes, Yorkshires and 3 veg. The onion in the cheese and onion pie was a bit hard for one of the group, but the cajun chicken was plentiful and tasty. We only found out afterwards that smaller portions are available, which would have been useful to know. The pub had a good atmosphere, but I prefer not to have dogs in an eating area. The background music was a bit too too loud and the lady wiping down the tables needs a new/clean cloth, but otherwise, the meal was perfect. The car park to the side of the pub is poorly lit and is potholed - not great for those with limited mobility. Food is served Thursday to Sunday.

Had a lovely holiday in Glossop and decided to pop in here for our Sunday lunch. Was the best grub we had the whole holiday, tomato soup for starters was very hearty with crusty warm bread. For main we had roast beef and Yorkshire puddings with all the trimmings. There was 4 roasties each made just like my mum would make them, and such a welcoming relaxed atmosphere. While the pub is a bit out of the way well worth the visit.

The first visit was with two friends for drinks and food on a pleasant Tuesday afternoon. Initially we sat outside and then later went into the conservatory to eat. The pub was quiet, but maybe this was due to our visit being immediately after a hot and sunny bank holiday weekend. The gardens were peaceful, attractive and well maintained. Bar service was good and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The food was of good quality and absolutely great value for the price. We had the two course special for £9.45. Fish and chips, steak pie and lasagna. All faultless and very much enjoyed. Good sized portions too. A decent choice of starters and desserts (we opted for deserts). Second visit was the following Saturday evening with my partner. We booked a table for 8pm. This time the place was full. There was a lively birthday party accommodating the whole of the conservatory, with all other guests seated in the quieter main building. My partner and I were seated immediately at a reserved table to the side of the bar. Despite a completely different ambience than that of the earlier visit, our meal was once again an enjoyable experience and the service was exemplary. Friendly and efficient. No long wait for food and it was just as good as on the previous visit. On both occasions everything was spot on; my friends, partner and myself thoroughly enjoyed our visits and would certainly recommend/return.

Step back in time & visit one of the very few remaining Victorian station buffet bars. Dating from 1885 the Stalybridge Buffet Bar has retained the original marble-topped bar, back fittings and the welcoming fire. A dozen years ago it was extended and inc
Always worth a mid week visit for the super ales and good food, best to avoid the weekend when the "ale trail" lager swilling hoards pack the place out and spoil it for everyone else, thanks James May !
