Traditional 16 Century English Pub serving local ales, hot drinks and home cooked fresh pub food. Warm friendly welcome and atmosphere, families, groups and dogs welcome. Food Times Wed & Thur 5 - 8.45 Fri & Sat 12 noon - 8.45. Sun & Bank Holidays 12 - 4.
Had a lovely holiday in Glossop and decided to pop in here for our Sunday lunch. Was the best grub we had the whole holiday, tomato soup for starters was very hearty with crusty warm bread. For main we had roast beef and Yorkshire puddings with all the trimmings. There was 4 roasties each made just like my mum would make them, and such a welcoming relaxed atmosphere. While the pub is a bit out of the way well worth the visit.

Although the restaurant menu looked lovely, we chose to eat in the bar when we arrived late on Friday evening because the options were probably better for us at that time. We did however have breakfast in the restaurant the following morning. The cooked breakfast is a buffet, so you can choose exactly what you want - they even do vegetarian sausages, but I decided to order the eggs Florentine instead, which was a good choice. There's also a continental style breakfast with a small selection of individually wrapped cheeses, fruit, yogurt, bread, a variety of spreads, and pastries. Take a look around the walls, where there are pictures of famous Mancunians! You can order breakfast when you check in, or pay as you go which we did. A better commitment to the environment would be good, less individual plastic packaging, but I guess this is not easy when you're catering for people with different tastes.

My first visit to this cafe to meet friends. A good choice for lunch for a cafe like this. Very popular with working guys stopping off for breakfast and lunch and not surprised bearing in mind the excellent prices.

The first visit was with two friends for drinks and food on a pleasant Tuesday afternoon. Initially we sat outside and then later went into the conservatory to eat. The pub was quiet, but maybe this was due to our visit being immediately after a hot and sunny bank holiday weekend. The gardens were peaceful, attractive and well maintained. Bar service was good and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The food was of good quality and absolutely great value for the price. We had the two course special for £9.45. Fish and chips, steak pie and lasagna. All faultless and very much enjoyed. Good sized portions too. A decent choice of starters and desserts (we opted for deserts). Second visit was the following Saturday evening with my partner. We booked a table for 8pm. This time the place was full. There was a lively birthday party accommodating the whole of the conservatory, with all other guests seated in the quieter main building. My partner and I were seated immediately at a reserved table to the side of the bar. Despite a completely different ambience than that of the earlier visit, our meal was once again an enjoyable experience and the service was exemplary. Friendly and efficient. No long wait for food and it was just as good as on the previous visit. On both occasions everything was spot on; my friends, partner and myself thoroughly enjoyed our visits and would certainly recommend/return.

Decided to with visiting family, as nearby rising moon was too busy... And I was so pleased we did! It was 'very' busy with 3 birthday party groups in restaurant area. However, staff coped well but admittedly it was very noisy, as a result. I have to say, all the portions were big, and tasted lovely. The 'sticky ribs' as a starter were huge and I had to share with my hubby! Someone ordered the cheesy garlic bread option as an appetiser, and it was £3 - £4 but it was 4 pieces of French bread!!The 'waggon burger' was immense! And I was pleased it wasn't on a brioche bun, just an ordinary white bun. 2 beef patties, sliced tomatoes, a lovely mayo with shreaded lettuce and cheese and a spicy tomato relish!!! Yum, yum, yum! We only had one group complaint about the fish... The batter was soggy but otherwise great food! The manager 'lisa' was very attentive and helpful. Compliments to one of the waitresses, who came to a colleagues aid, to clear up wine, spilled on the floor; right near our feet!! Anyway, will definitely be going back and food was great! Thank you for your review! I apologise for your batter being soggy. I am pleased to hear you will be coming again. we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Step back in time & visit one of the very few remaining Victorian station buffet bars. Dating from 1885 the Stalybridge Buffet Bar has retained the original marble-topped bar, back fittings and the welcoming fire. A dozen years ago it was extended and inc
Always worth a mid week visit for the super ales and good food, best to avoid the weekend when the "ale trail" lager swilling hoards pack the place out and spoil it for everyone else, thanks James May !
