Quite a stunning establishment. The dining rooms are so full of charm. We were fortunate enough to arrive early and were seated directly under the traditional "Herr Gottswinkel" - Crucifix flanked by two delightful reverse glass paintings. The view out of the window onto the square and church is just wonderful. The food is not bad either. In fact the food is very good.

To help you better understand my reviews, my wife and I are independent travelers in our mid-60s. While we definitely like a bit of luxury and enjoy good food, we usually find five-star hotels and Michelin starred restaurants too pretentious.We've dined at the Alte Mühle many times while attending the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg. We always enjoyed it, but I have to admit that the last two times the service hasn't been what it was when we first ate here.The pluses: the menu has interesting dishes, all very well prepared, and the setting is as romantic as it gets.The minuses: The last two times we have eaten here the service has been very slow and the meal took too long -- the restaurant only seats about 25. This was because the kitchen was overstressed with too many diners coming at the same time. This isn't the restaurant's fault -- most of the diners are attending concerts at the Schubertiade and so come when the 4:00 concert lets out, or at 6:00, with plans to attend the 8:00 concert. Slow service certainly wouldn't be a problem if you dined here when Schubertiade is not on -- it affects all the restaurants in the entire area as the concerts attract about 700 music lovers.Some special notes: they only take cash!! Austrians like their food salty, so Americans may find some dishes a little too salty for their taste. If Zwetschgenstrudel is featured for dessert, order it!.

The view from the terasse in a sunny winter day is really breathtaking so it really does not matter what you are eating or drinking. But even the food is excellent and I recommend the home made apfelstrudel!!!

We stopped here on the spur of the moment to have a light lunch. The staff were all very welcoming on arrival and dressed in their traditional clothing. The restaurant was fairly busy, appearing to be many locals.The service was excellent and the food portions were quite big and great value. I can't complain about anything and certainly would return here if we were passing through.Thanks to the staff for all their hospitality! Thumbs up...

nice shady gardenwe had ice cream, ice coffee and a beer7,20 ⬠for the ice cream and 3,40 for 1/2 liter beer, this just too much the beer came quick, the ice cream took 45 min we had this slow service also another timethere is only 1 waitress ...

Stayed at the hotel over weekend as were going to Bregenz opera and nothing was available close to Bregenz. And have to say, can not recommend this hotel high enough. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The room is spotless with fantastic terrace and view of the mountains. Kitchen is great too, had traditional schnitzel that was just perfect. Would definitely return.

After a ride through the beautiful Bregenzer Wald we stopped to have lunch at Schulhus.This turned out to be a excellent choice. A very warm welcome by the owner made us feel comfortable. The dining room light and modern.The food also light and modern with a classical origin. Every dish was spot on and the advised Austrian wines of very good quality. This lady chef knows how to cook! We can't wait to return.

Ate here in July. Evening dinner. Excellent service, food was superb in terms of preparation, presentation and quality. Definitely stands out compared to the more typical Austrian Hotel/Gastehaus cuisine. Great ambiance. However the pricing was slightly excessive which is a shame. We had several meals at various good quality establishments across the Bregenzerwald and the Gasthof Krone was 20 - 25% higher. Difficult to justify. If it wasn't for this we would have no hesitation in awarding five stars.

One doesn't necessarily expect a modern restaurant (both interior and menu) in a rural, touristy area. But there is the Ernele. Rely on the recommendation of the chef, who comes to the table and explains.It is also nice to watch your food being prepared.
