When we hiked up to the Aueralm, there was a perfect opportunity to relax and eat something, while enjoying a very nice view of the nearby mountains. The soup was hot and a bit spicy. There was an interesting option for tea- Jagertee - basically half alcohol with herbs and half hot water) try if you dare.

Schlossbrennerei Tegernsee

"Alpine cuisine with Bavarian, South Tyrolean and Austrian flair" New owner since beginning of June 2019

This is truly a great place except for that one drawback. Located next to the Ducal Brewery on the shore of the beautiful Tegernsee lake, the "Brennerei" (literally "Distillery") also makes fruit schnaps of various types and sells them on the premises. You can see the modern "still" in one of the restaurant rooms. If the weather is good, sit outside on the terrasse and enjoy the scenery. Inside, the decor is timbered, with the southern Bavarian touch. The menu features many German/Bavarian specialties, and the food was uniformly great. I had the Leberkäse and found it outstanding; all in our party remarked on the great taste of the food. Presentation of the food was tasteful and in line with the decor. The staff were pleasant and attentive but not intrusive, allowing a leisurely meal. The only jarring aspect was the announcement, with the presentation of the bill, that they did not accept credit cards. One would expect a restaurant of this class (they are not a "local hole in the wall") located in a resort town with significant tourist traffic either to accept credit cards (after all, the slightly down-scale brewery restaurant next door takes them) or to inform the patrons of the fact that they don't when taking the orders. This is a relatively new restaurant, so perhaps as they settle in they'll change their policy in this respect. Until they do, it's a great place to bring guests, but be sure to bring cash, too.

Dining with some local colleagues we decided to go with the specialities of the house. Starting with blood sausage and potato salad washed down with the local beer we then moved onto beef and onions, Wiener schnitzel and venison (locally shot by the owner apparently). It was all good if a little heavy which seems to be the local style. Overall seems to be a good place for traditional food and in daylight probably set in an attractive location half way up a hill along a narrow road.

Let me keep this short: immaculate service, cosy atmosphere and most likely the best Saibling (local fish) I ever had, the beaf and salmon tartar as starters blew my mind and all this for very reasonable prices. Great! Keep going like this!
