Flour, Habiki no Sato

Reviewed By KevinRiley-Osaka - Osaka, Japan

I've been going to this bakery/cafe for over 17 years now. It's a great place for an afternoon coffee or tea, with one of its many bakery selections. I enjoy sitting overlooking the small lake outside. A peaceful place.
On this visit, three of us enjoyed a quiet break after driving around Nara Prefecture. My companions had Monblanc (correct English?) and I had a Creme Brulee. I've had the same quality of Creme Brulee at other places, but paid about 3x as much.
Had a good Cafe Latte and enjoyed quietly sipping it while looking over the lake.
Was surprised when first entering the place. I had not been here for a few years (it is a drive outside Osaka) and the place hasn't changed (always a good sign) but they did have an even greater selection of bakery goods (another good sign).

Kanbukuro

They have one dish, a dessert that is eaten plain (in the winter) or with shaved ice (in the summer). The recipie is a family secret, and has been that way for hundreds of years. They are basically open (for the day) until they run out. Then they close. So, closing time is a 'moving target'. I'm always amazed at how they don't care about their customers. You go up to the register to order and pay. They give you a number, and you go find a seat. It's up to you to pay attention, as they call out your number. They won't seek you out. many have tried to copy their recipie, but none come close. It's unique and tasty.

Gin Sushi

This restaurant takes their sushi serious. The seafood is always fresh and presented nicely. Sure you could pay less at a big restaurant chain, but if you want to enjoy the raw seafood that makes Japan...well...Japan, this is the place to be. The quality of the seafood coupled with the care and craft of the sushi chef has me always wanting to come back for more. The shop is small and cozy. It does have a dining section upstairs which can accommodate larger parties, but I have always sat at the counter on the ground level.

One Karubi Plus+ Kawachi-Amami

Reviewed By Michael N - Matsubara, Japan

My wife and I decided to celebrate our first wedding anniversary here about one week ago. While this restaurant is part of a chain, the experience we had was one of a kind. The Waitstaff were very friendly, attentive, and patient (my Japanese is still incredibly weak), and they provided menus in English. The selection of dishes was immense, and I got plenty of chances to try a plethora of delectable cuts from the menu. Aside from the meats, they also offer a variety of salads, rice dishes, desserts, and a nomihodai alcohol menu. I found it somewhat peculiar that the soft drinks were only available as single purchases, but chasing booze with water was perfectly acceptable.
We began the evening by asking our server's recommendation. She advised us to enjoy a sliced skirt steak and thin rib slices. We progressed from there, dining on sirloin steak, korean-style ribs, chicken thigh cutlets, sliced beef liver, and more before returning for a few more orders of the skirt and sirloin steaks. My wife enjoyed several glasses of various mixed drinks, while I stuck with yuzu and lime sours. Somehow, I managed to fit a delectable tiramisu in after all of that. We dined at will for two hours, which is what they advertise. Overall, I cannot think of one aspect of the meal we did not like, and the atmosphere was pleasant, if busy. It is a rather popular restaurant in Matsubara, and I can see why. Every member of the staff made sure we were happy and comfortable in the restaurant, and we left feeling as though we were honored guests.
While somewhat spendy, I am fully confident that between the service and the meal itself, we got more than we paid for. I am looking forward to inviting my family and friends to join us for future great experiences.

We passed in front of it and we decided to give Puja a try. The restaurant offers good set meals with a medium price. They gave us a common table at the ground floor. Too bad. The choice of the dishes is a little poor.
