Reviewed By melodyasWe are not so familiar with Austria and landed on the Hinteregger in Matrei im Osttirol after reading a recommendation in a magazine. What a great recommendation! This part of Austria is outstanding and was a good place to explore the National Park (Hohe Tauern) from, with loads of good hiking. The hotel is in the village and you can walk just about anywhere. Katharina runs a smart ship and really understands hospitality - everyone is welcoming and the food is outstanding. I was not expecting much from the half board, but I ended up looking forward to dinner every night. There was always a vegetarian choice on the menu and our plates always returned to the kitchen completely clean. The food is regional and tasty, and even if you aren't staying in the hotel, then definitely stop in for dinner. Through a glitch in booking, we ended up in the terrace room which was unbelievably amazing. I will for sure return to the Hinteregger. It was perfect from start to finish.

Reviewed By Ivan MOwner's almost hit us for breakfast, because we took servis dining table from another empty table. Also, although the hotel was almost empty we were waiting for the keys to the room full hour. and dont serve breakfast before 8 in the morning.

Reviewed By Vojtěch MWe travelled to Matrei in Osttirol after a few years (because of a new-born member of my family). But Ferienhaus Sonnenhang is still great! All could be quickly arranged via email with Mrs. Theresia Rainer, really a very nice and helpful person. At the place, she recommend you a lot of interesting trips and all that "what-shall-we-do" stuff. Every years there is something new and pleasant. This year they've started a participation on "Health-Feet Programme"; after a trip she brings you a bowl and local glacier healing water, which is used in a spa. Mr. Rainer, her husband is, by the way, former mountain ranger, so that he could greatly advice you everythink from wether to best trips and experience. All in all, if you want to really see and hike Alps and if you want a calm town in the romantic valley of mountains 3000 meters above the see level, Ferienhaus Sonnenhang should be your choice! In addition, in walking distance is local Spar, Billa, Kik and other markets. And a very good-priced petrol station! All is perfectly available, so don't hesitate and make an Alps Trip!

Easy to find in this small lovely village. Located in the town center. Free guest Parking spaces beside the building to the left. Lovely helpful hosts who also work in the amazing handy cards, maps, magazines and books, tourist stuff etc shop next door. Lovely places to eat and snack beside the premises and more within walking distance. ( particularly the nearby Pizzeria and the circa 1k away Alte Muehle restaurant, in direction ski lift) Free Ski bus outside door to ski lift. Bus from Kitzbuehl will drop you at bus stop right outside the guesthouse. Modern room w toilet and hot shower was basic and perfectly clean and simple and very cozy. Superb and impressive breakfast in the 4* hotel in front of the Guesthouse Obwexer is included in price. Ski room downstairs. Can ask permission and leave gear there if going away for few days and returning. Has a Lift up to the rooms if one wishes to use it. Free Wi-Fi Good value for money in this village. Please keep prices affordable as they now are ! No reception so ring bell at door or enquire in adjacent card shop to get entry key ( stored in a keybox which requires the access code) Lovely village. Can be booked for 1 or more nights at normal price so excellent for ski touring etc. Lovely old famous frescoes and walk to Chiesetta di San Nicolo a Matrei (1.8 km) Highly recommended.

Reviewed By Mactravel53We stayed overnight on our way home from Croatia. We had a twin / double on the first floor. Quite spartan but good shower and all amenities / towels you would want. Family hotel, quaintly decorated. Wi fi in room did not work so we adjourned to the bar after a walk in the rain! The manageress / bar person / waitress / receptionist was very pleasant and efficient, and really could not do enough to help us. We had an evening meal there which was good honest local fayre. All we wanted after a tiring days drive. Parking was over the street in a sort of town square / bus stop area with teenagers using the bus shelter as a meeting / smoking area to ‘hang out’, but I imagine the crime rate is very low here, so no worries. Slight confusion over checking out as the computer had not registered we had booked half board through the online hotel booking site and we were charged for the evening meal. I produced our documentation, they checked and gave me an appropriate refund in cash - all sorted, very pleasantly. So good budget hotel for a stopover; I’d choose something a bit more salubrious if staying longer - and there are a few around, but they cost more - so - horses for courses.....

Siamo stati accolti da Joseph come da vecchi amici. Anche se parla solo Tedesco, ci siamo capiti alla perfezione. Nel nostro appartamento era presente una cucina nuovissima dotata di lavastoviglie. Ampio salone con tavolo per mangiare. La casa si presenta ben tenuta, piena di fiori, pony per i bimbi, galline per avere le uova fresche, laghetto con le trote. Vicino al paese ma in posizione tranquilla. Rapporto qualità prezzo ampiamente raggiunta. Zona con tantissime escursioni da fare.

Great place to stay - beautiful village.
Reviewed By Scott JWe stayed here as a group of 2 couples. It was perfect for self catering facilities with a supermarket not too far car ride. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. The views from the balcony and the colours of the flowers were beautiful. We were greeted by the housekeeper who was friendly and advised different things around the village. He was on hand if we had any questions and a great guy to have a laugh with. Recommend a visit if your around :)
