Reviewed By OnehungarianStayed a couple of nights to do the Tongariro Crossing - Chris and Vidhu were lovely and extremely helpful, pick-ups went flawlessly and we had a great day on the track. The motel is warm and clean, comfy beds, handy to all the amenities in Ohakune, really great value.

A friendly, comfortable and inexpensive hostel at the base of Mt Ruapehu. LKNZ Backpackers is a great base for the Ruapehu Ski Resorts, Tongariro Crossing, Old Coach Road Track, Whanganui River and many other amazing walks and tracks in the Ruapehu area. Convenient shuttle services available for all activities. There is a wide range of accommodation options to suit your budget from New Kitchenette En-suites, Private Doubles, Family rooms, Dorms and Cabins spread over 4 building each with their own kitchens and lounges. Van and Tent site available too during summer. With action packed activities in the area all year round LKNZ have loads of Local Knowledge to share with all of our guest. As far as affordable North Island ski field on Mt Ruapehu and Tongariro accommodation goes, look no further than LKNZ Lodge. We have our own onsite Cafe, a Sauna and two hot tubs!

Magnificent view of volcanoes right from our doorstep. Closest hostel to start of TONGARIRO ALPINE CROSSING with own bus - $ 45 per person return. Most rooms with ensuite bathrooms, off-street parking, internet/Wi-Fi, DOC hut passes. INDOOR CLIMBING HALL 8m high, 55 top rope climbs, beginners - advanced. Transport to Tongariro Northern Circuit, 42 Traverse and other mountain bike trails, free pick up from Intercity bus stop and train station. Whanganui River trips. Bar/restaurant next door.
Stayed to do Tongariro crossing - excellent location and great value!
Reviewed By TravelAllTheTimeAWe stayed in a room for 3 with a private bathroom and the room was clean and its size appropriate. Simple but comfortable. The real perks are the location and ease with which you can do walks in National Park including the famous Tongariro Crossing (which is more than a walk!!!). Staff is really helpful and friendly - Anna made the crossing possible for us and it was one of the best experiences we have ever done. Will book again when back in National Park for skiing or tramping.

Unangenehm, nur wenn´s einem egal ist!

Habe mich von der Beschreibung überzeugen lassen aber leider war die dort angegeben Bar und das Restaurant (kann mir gar nicht vorstellen dass es dort eines giebt) nicht geöffnet! Im Bad giebt es keine Heizung, es war saukalt dort, das Warmwasser beim Duschen war auch sehr beschränkt, nach kurzer Zeit kam kaum noch eines aus dem Duschkopf raus so dass man gerne wieder raus ging aus selbiger! Im Zimmer gab es als Heizung einen mobielen Heizkörper der über die einzige Steckdose dort betrieben werden musste so dass man keinen Strom für anderwertige Dinge nutzen konnte, ausser man hat´s gerne kalt! Weiters stand auf der Webseite dass nur nur noch ein Zimmer meiner Katigorie (Zimmer mit Doppelbett) zur Verfügung stünde. Nun bei meiner Ankunft war ich erst überhaupt der einzige im ganzen Anwesen! Später kamen dann 3 Arbeiter hinzu welche sich nicht gerade an die Hausregel wie Ruhe ab 21:00 und Rauchverbot hielten! Nicht gerade angenehm wenn man am nächsten Tag um 5 Uhr aufstehen muss und dann unausgeschlafen zum Alpine Crossing geht! Das einzige was richtig gut funktionierte war der Internetzugang! Resüme: lieber etwas mehr Geld ausgeben für ein anderes Quartier (z.B. im Nationalpark Village) und einen angenehmen Aufenthalt haben!!!

Reviewed By lucas667220Great Hostel managed by great people ! The Kirchen is clean and well equiped, you can rent bikes for 5 dollars a day, and there is a great ambiance. Bonus : there is fresh baked bread in the morning !

Reviewed By larissakalWe stayed in a 2 bedroom chalet and it was great. Clean, tidy, spacious and exactly what we needed. There was more than enough room for everyone, we had 5 adults stay. The accommodation has a lounge, TV, bathroom, 2 bedrooms (no beds in the lounge), full kitchen (with oven) and everyone loved the private spa. From the unit we were in we could see the mountain from the kitchen window. Awesome location! Right in town, close to the Ohakune Old Coach Road, right next to the train station, supermarket etc. Private carparking space, off the road. Cannot complain. Would definitely stay here again.

Reviewed By Cruiser813851Good - The room was simple but practical, we were upgraded to 8 beds for 6 of us so we could have more space which was very nice. Facilities were good with the option of own cubical showers. Fun movie room in what looks like a cupboard with table tennis and couches. Kitchens were well equipped. Bad - WiFi was given with vouchers (200 MB each person) which was very limiting and no signal in the room to use personal data or calls.

The Rusty Nail secluded spot overlooks Taihape with a breathtaking view of Mount Ruapehu, 10 minutes walk from the township. Providing a great central location as well as peace and quiet. In the heart of NZ's best scenery with adventure at your doorstep - bungy, white water rafting, tramping, trout fishing, hunting, jet boating, horse treks and snow skiing in winter. Taihape offers great shopping, night entertainment with that country atmosphere.

Reviewed By JoVJoWe spent one night here in the motel at the end of the July school holidays - we had not ever stayed here before. I was very impressed. The room was large with a lovely vaulted ceiling, very comfortable, scrupulously clean and with all the usual amenities including a generous wifi allowance. The manager was super friendly and helpful, and gave us a voucher for 10% off the best restaurant in town. It’s a good location - easy walking distance to Clyde St, but just far enough from the main road to be very quiet; the trade-off for that was no views from the room. We were able to park right outside the room which is always helpful. I thought it was good value for money and would happily stay here again.
