We have been enjoying two evenings of gastronomic entertainment. Both the 5 as 7 course menus were planned and executed very well. No surprises and largely traditional combinations that were well cooked. Very friendly service and nice ambiance. The capacity of the hotel and restaurant is quite large. Due to the set-up in different rooms you hardly notice. Extensive wine-list that is extremely high priced. And 8 euro for a bottle of water......

Les Terrasses de l'Our

Because it is such a special place on multiple locations you will find this review twice under different headings, also because it was a mixed experience as you learn when reading further.Maxime Collard created a Michel star restaurant in Our , little village close to Paliseul and a hotel in same building with six rooms. But in recent years expanded this with a further place to stay, la fabrique with two rooms, a suite and a duplex and last year build a huge complex les terrases de l’our with 14 rooms and a brasserie. He also has the Jardins de Maxime, but these rooms are outside the village and we did not visit them so no comments on then.We booked for our wedding anniversary the suite witch is situated inside the fabrique. Very lovely building nice and quiet beside the water running trough the village. On the other bank of same river is the new building for the terrasses situated, we also had to move their for our breakfast, just crossing a wooden bridge. Those two building are some 300 meters away from the Table de Maxime. Normally a little walk but with bad weather and the village road under construction works made it a bit more of an effort than it should be. Be also aware that our building has no lift, so stairs have to be done, if not able inform yourself well in advance !The downside of our weekend was the menu in the brasserie terrasses de l’our. Our gastronomic weekend included a 3 cours menu there and the second night a 5 cours in the table de maxime. The three course menu was a choise menu between two starters, two mains and two desserts. The quality of the food was below average. We did have different main courses and the meat (veal) was tasteless and the fish (red mullet) was just awfull. The first and dessert were nothing special either. So we were left very much confused because this brasserie received very good comments before. The breakfast served in the same building for us was a buffet. Only the coffee is served at the table. Apperantl y only the guests in the table are allowed to eat their breakfast there and enjoy it to be served to them. It would have been nice to compare things, but not to be. We were a bit afraid of the second evening meal but that turned out to be a succes. Very nice service, fluent at the table and very good dishes with lots of flavor. Completely the opposite from the day before. The according wines were also very good. I gave the table full marks altough a few minor details disturbed me, mainly the fact that they do leave the emptly plates after each course much to long on the table. It’s not so nice to stare at an empty plate often for more than 15/20 minutes. Also we once had to ask our water to be refilled, sometimes the wines didn’t came as soon as the should have and our neighbours run out of bread once, but as i told once at the table all was dealt with very professionally. Finally a little dissapointement towards the management. If a couple let’s you know they spent there wedding anniversary there : would it be to much to congratulate the couple with this occasion ? I don’t need a free bottle of whatever but just a friendly word towards it would made the world of difference. A personal approach will always make your guests want to return sooner than i plan now.

After finishing our dinner, manager decided to overcharged us with starters we didn't order. Unfriendly, mean and unrespectful talk to us, grabbing personal belongigns and threating to don't give them back until we pay those starters. Awful situation, throwing money at us last minute before leaving...for this individual, the manager, I have to write this review. We were satisfied with the food, but no one needs to be treated this way, I'm sorry for the restaurant and town, I'm sure lovely place to visit, but wont recommend to stop here ever again.

La Hutte Lurette

We never ate something this badly cooked in a restaurant. My girlfriend and I took one of their menus. Portions where very small. The pappillot of salmon gave a very small piece with almost no vegetables. Presentation was a piece of aluminium containing the small piece of fish with three very small half potatoes next to it. We each had at least one potatoe with black dots on it.The fish tasted like pepper and almost nothing else. For dessert we took a rhubarb pie that could have been made better by your eight year old niece. We asked extra bread to have enough after a three dish menu! My girlfriend could not finish the fish because it was so untasteful and gave her stomach aches. Most important deception was the service. They did not take the time to let us choose a pre-dinner drink so in the end we just choose to skip it. We where under the impression that they wanted to get us out fast.During the meal one of the waiters already removed my plate while my girlfriend was still eating.A few minutes later they took her plate from under her nose while she took the last bite. With that the waiters took her full glass of water with them after we informed them that we did not wish to take a coffee, leaving my empty glass of water behind.During the meal one of the waiters came and ask us what we had consumed so far regarding drinks. They forgot. In general they where not very friendly. When asking a question to the older waiter when paying we don't know if he simply did not hear us or if he ignored us. When asking a question he was clearly not amused.

We've visited this restaurant in a Sunday, in a trip coming back to home, and we're really surprised how they were fine and gently with us. We've chosen two options of beef and the service was perfect -- an entreé with delicate starters followed by a perfect plate, probably the best thing I've tried in the last 6 months. It was surprisingly affordable considering the very good level of food. It was a pity -- I was driving therefore I couldn't try a wine there, we're seriously thinking in coming back in the next weeks despite our distance to there. Strongly recommended!

We discovered this restaurant after it was recently taken over and had two really positive experiences. There are not many places in the region with this level of quality of food and service. We took the menu gourmand on both occasions with matching wines. At each occasion we had real waw experiences with at least one of the four "amuse-bouche" served before the actual meal starts. The menu is excellent value for money and we are convinced they will get the bib gourmand soon with this offering. Deserts are excellent and keep some space for the goodies coming with the coffee.

We took their offer of One Night Gastronomique - Very pleasant setting - The food is of exceptional quality. The staff super professional and very pleasant and happy. We are a couple that definitely appreciates good food - Very knowledgeable sommelier who gave us good advice on the wine list combined with the food - The bed was good and comfortable, a bit small (bigger than a Ibis or Holidays Inn though) - It is in the middle of the countryside by a small village with good surroundings and the tracks for walking and cycling
