Lower Silesia Province, Poland Food Guide: 10 Eastern European food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Wroclaw

April 25, 2020 Jasper Kershner

Find out what Eastern European restaurants to try in Wroclaw. Surprisingly (except to Poles) pronounced VRAHTS-wahv, Wroclaw is Poland’s fourth-largest city and the capital of the Viovodship of Lower Silesia. Originally (in medieval times) built across several islands, the city still has many lovely bridges and beautiful architecture. Not far from the German border in the country’s southeast, Wroclaw gets lots of German tourists, who call it Breslau. The Rynek (central square), lined by colorful buildings, is one of the city’s most popular destinations.

We serve a delicious Georgian food. Menu consists of most popular Georgian dish like Khinkali - Georgian dumplings stuffed with meat, Khachapuri - flat bread stuffed with cheese, various type of fine meat, barbecue and of course Georgian wine :)

A short walk from the spectacular Rynek, right beside the splendid AC Hotel and across from the paved park sporting several theaters and young people strolling and skateboarding, you will find this most welcome spot for fine and filling Georgian cuisine; part of a Ukraine-based chain with three operations in Wroclaw and many more throughout Poland, the Baltics, Belarus, and Ukraine.Dumplings come in many forms in cuisines ranging across the whole world – Latin America, Slavic, Indian, Chinese, Thai, and more -- and those from Georgia, called Khinkali, as prepared at Chinkalinia, are as good as any. Light, not at all gummy, and with just the right amount of yummy fillings, these dumplings – called House Specials on the menu – look like miniature old-fashioned change purses. They make perfect starters or as a main dish with an accompanying salad. We enjoyed them as starters. My wife’s came filled with smooth and flavorful, but not sharp melted cheese and mine came with minced meat and fragrant coriander. For our main dishes, my wife ordered the Megrelian khachapuri – homemade flat bread stuffed with cheese -- and I ordered Chashushuli – a spicy beef stew. Both were excellent, however after the cheese dumplings my wife’s dish was too similar – kind of like a white pizza on a naan-like crust -- and she wished she had ordered one of the chicken dishes or the grilled mackerel. My stew came in a clay pot, brimmed with a rich flavor sparked with some but not too much heat and lots of meat. The flatbread accompaniment wasn’t necessary since I had plenty of my wife’s khachapuri to wipe my bowl clean, but without that, the bread would have been essential. We loved the placemats which illustrate the right way to eat Khinkali – playful, fun, and helpful. I topped off my meal with a fine lager and my wife enjoyed a fresh lemonade (a bit too sweet, but refreshing). In all, a fine dinner in an enjoyable setting. Reasonable prices too.

It’s likely that you will have pierogi at some stage during your visit to Poland. Here they take it to another level. Along with your regular pierogi you can have them baked and fried. They menu clearly shows you all the options and I was tempted by everything! I decided on soup and a selection of five of the meat baked pierogi (you can also get vegetarian and sweet ones). I thought they would be the same size as the regular ones and was about to order potato pancakes but my server advised that it might be too much and to wait until later to order more if I wanted. The vegetable soup was delicious and then I was presented with my baked pasties. They were at least four times the size of the regular pierogi and absolutely stuffed with delicious meat fillings. There is a whole list of dips to go with them. If your not sure, ask for a recommendation. I was full after three. You can order just three. My extra two didn’t go to waste as I was given a box to take them home with me. I am disappointed in missing out on the pancakes, but there is always another time.

Went there twice (lunch and dinner) and its indeed a great fine dining place. Dusks are indeed beautiful when you sit outside and watch the cathedral light up.We tried Salmon steak, duck breast and chicken supreme and they were delicious. The wine pairing is decent and service good.Go at dawn and watch the cathedral light up. Also enjoy the unique show of the light man walking around and lighiting up the gas street lights in his huge cape.https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowUserReviews-g274812-d13277566-r600607067-Lwia_Brama-Wroclaw_Lower_Silesia_Province_Southern_Poland.html#

Visited this pub/restaurant to meet family/ friends and wow - what a lovely place to eat or just sit, have a glass of wine and watch the world go by. This is a super place, it is a little pricey in comparison to other places around there but it is well worth the visit. The food was fabulous with a fairly extensive menu to suit all tastes. We then sat and had a glass of wine and a craft beer made by this bar itself. All we had was just fabulous. The young waiter was superb with an extensive knowledge of all on offer both food and wine and made excellent recommendations. We sat and watched the world go by which was educational. Only drawback to this was a 'strip club' located very close which we saw was putting pressure on passing gentlemen to enter, we were wondering what the attraction was for all the hordes of men entering and were honestly informed by the staff. However, this has nothing to do with this beautiful restaurant/bar and is simply located very close by. We thoroughly enjoyed this place and would highly recommend.

We were recommended this restaurant by a few people and looking at reviews we admittedly had high expectations. The food was good. Not bad but not amazing. The menu was also missing a few dishes. The service was why we were unhappy. We had a member of our party who had dietary requirements. Our waitress said there is nothing to eat for her( member). Great help. No improvisations or a chat to the chef or cooks. The waitress only went to the chef when we said “Are you sure”. If it was a joke, we all missed it. The second issue was when we finished our mains and wanted the desert menus our waitress said the kitchen is closed. Fair enough, however a warning of the closure would have been nice. We asked again nicely if we could have ice for the kids, ice cream. Nope kitchen is closed. We have eaten out alot around Wroclaw and Poland and this is a miss.

This is a much sought after place, located behind the Scandic hotel. We visited for dinner yesterday, and had something which was like a stuffed tortilla, stuffed with an overdose of yummy cheese, bacon and boiled egg with some Georgian beer. Charming, unblievably good avalue, great feel/vibe.We got to Wroclaw mid afternoon and went straight here (based on reviews) for some cheap eats and a quick beer. We ended up back here at the end of the night to drink some more!At time of writing, current exchange rates, all drinks (300ml beer/vodka shot/coffee/soft drink/hot fruit tea) are about 90p. Outrageous value. The beer is a Polish brand, is 5.5% and tastes great. The vodka is smooth, not cheap lighter fluid rubbish. Coffee also fine.'Snacks' are about £1.40. They aren't just 2 mouthfuls though, they're proper lunch sized. Easily £10 or £12 worth in most other European cities. Perfectly tasty too. They just hit the spot.Upstairs or downstairs, squeeze past the other customers, toilet in the basement perfectly clean. Service fine - not special but fine. Just a great cheap, uniquely decorated fun but relaxed place. Very popular for a reason!

Had to wait a few minutes for a table as it is a very popular restaurant. Lots to look at on the walls and a really interesting menu with small articles to read about Polish history and politics. Our food was excellent, especially the sharing board which was a good mixture of traditional cuisine. Ended with delicious vodkas and a look around the secret room! Service was excellent and we really enjoyed our evening here.
