The quiet capital of Malawi, Lilongwe is divided into New and Old Towns. The Old Town is where to go for bustling stores, markets, cafes, hotels, and restaurants. The New Town houses embassies, international aid organizations, and corporate headquarters. A large expat population has made Lilongwe a very Western city, and a perfect stopping point for tired travelers to relax and pick up some essentials for their trip to the country’s wildlife reserves or to the beaches of Lake Malawi.

Overlooking Malawi Square is The President Walmont Hotel, the first ever 5-star hotel in Malawi. It has a large reception area, beautiful lobby bar, relaxing lounge and is home to the elegant Wild Orchid Restaurant, which serves local and international delicacies and a superb selection of wines. The President Walmont Hotel houses a gym, spa and the Afroma Terrace Bar where sundowners are served in the bar or at the outdoor lounge that overlooks the entire precinct.
The hotel is perfect whether for business or leisure. Its well located with so many amenities near by. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Lilongwe from within Malawi or to international guests, you will not regret it.

I just stayed at the hotel and had a great weekend. The suites are huge and very clean. The food was excellent. In particular, I found the waiter by the pool, Teddy, extremely attentive and very friendly. He has a very big smile, which really made me feel welcome. I will be going back to the hotel.

Eden Estates & Boutique Lodge is an aparthotel offering studio apartments and cottages located on 40 acres of private woodlands.
I had a chance to experience the difference at Eden. Beautiful place. Food is good and can be improved. I feel the conference room is not conducive for events at this time. No tiles, plus the furniture is very poor. If they can work on the conference room and bring up to great, standards I will be happy to recommend to all my peers.

Probably the best prawns in Lilongwe. I have never been disappointed; Peri-Peri prawns always hits … highly priced but that’s prawns ?. I love sea food. The service on this particular day was also on point considering that we got there 9pm??

This hotel is central, convenient and clean. Overpriced - yes! The breakfast is quite good though. The rooms are small but overall ok. Staff are mostly friendly, but their main task is to bill you. Upon arrival the room rate had increased compared to the pre agreed price (given in writing). The conference rooms are not impressive. Do not let the photos online fool you! The management of the conference facilities is particularly poor. Promises were broken on several aspects. There is a projector but projection on a yellow wall yields poor quality. Internet is not the best. The conference package (which is quite a high cost on top of room rental) was supposed to include a bottle of water for participants. This was Clearly stated on the contract. However the cost of water bottles was added to bill on top of the package. At lunch each of the participants could have one soft drink. On the bill the numbers were doubled. I would really not reccomend this as a meeting venue. If you decide to come here - check every item on your bill.

The lodge is 1 star at best. There is no attention to detail. The rooms are spacious, but the beds are not turned down for the evening and yet I arrived at the end of a working day. I had a cold shower with only 1 towel in the room and no floor mat/towel to step onto after I showered. I would not come here if I had a choice. Look it’s clean. It’s basic, but not really a place I would chose particularly since Lilongwe has better options for lodge-type accommodation that are probably better than this place.

Thanks to Rudolf and Gerda ( Barefoot team) for the wonderful experience. 5+7= 12km hike, that included rock climbing , Rock art view and walking between vivid flora, everything was so refreshing. Pottery collection is indeed worth watching.

A last minute emergency mean I had to cut a visit to Malawi short, and make the long drive from Karonga in the north all the way to Lilongwe (about 10 hours) with a 4 hour stop in Mzuzu. When we arrived at about 7pm, our rooms were ready and waiting for us. We were welcomed by Maria, a very friendly and hospitable host. Rooms are spacious and clean, beds were comfortable. Air conditioning in the room was a nice treat after two weeks in the hot north. The shower was hot (almost too hot) but it was also nice to have after two weeks of cold bathing. The restaurant was not functioning, we were told, but it was fine, as the area has many restaurant close by offering take away and even delivery. Staff brought coffee to my room in the morning and offered to cook me breakfast. The grounds are beautiful and calming. The price for this stay ($90 overnight booking through expedia) was some $40 lower than other hotels available in the area based on my quick online search. I will certainly use Annie's again in my travel to and from Lilongwe.

This is a B and B place, very decent and well located in a poshy area. Staff always eager to help and support. Reception responsibilities could be improved in explaining everything to a guest especially how the Internet work. Internet is free from 6 to 6 after which you need to pay for it. Much as I had paid for it, it never worked. Also realised later that Internet is free during weekends. The breakfast is not the best but good enough. Being a quiet residential area, one needs transport. It is also a bit far from the business centres. For a proper meal, there is Country Lodge nearby which has excellent food, mostly Indian cuisine.
