Perfect lunch beside the lagoon: sea bass for me and shrimps (prawns) for my husband, with two salads - fresh and pickled - to start, crispy, warm, perhaps polenta, bread and fresh me,on and cherries to finish. And perfect Chardonnay-like Albanian white wine. The menu is very limited (3 choices only) but perfectly delivered. Wish more restaurants would do this. Worth the 3 bumpy kms to get there. Very highly recommended.

Shkreli is the family name, and this family does a great job in providing with a delicious seafood, homemade wine, great cheese and beautiful corn bread. Do not expect any fancy restaurant in here, these guys are fishermen and they sell their daily catch prepared on grill or fried, nevertheless, service is very pleasant and everything is delicious. We had great shrimp, octopus, calamari prepared on grill followed by huge piece of Sea Bass. Starters comprised on selections of white and aged(yellow) cheese together with a crispy green lettuce salad, olive oil and olives, all of these products made in Shengjin. Not to forget the best corn bread I ever had. Prices are very moderate.

15/9/19We three British middle aged guys are midway through 16 days in this part of the world.Oh previous location was in Lezhë where I searched TA for restaurants for our first evening meal there. I found this restaurant to be close by on TA maps and we searched and searched in the pitch black, asking people in the street who were bemused, not recognising the picture at all.Two days later we are in Shengjini and near our hotel and on a Sunday evening stroll to check out local restaurants at 19:20 we stumbled across the actual restaurant in the Main Street! It happened to be opposite the Detari restaurant which was no 1 in the listing but turned out to be a bit too upmarket for us. It was also next to Detari Vieter which was of a similar style but had families dining with noisy kids running around. My friend and I had a look at the menu and the prices were normal prices. The food the diners were eating looked good. We told the waiter we would be back later. I also told him about the wrong location on TA but he had no idea of what I was talking about. It seems some establishments are unaware that they are being scrutinised and rated by tourists. At about 9pm we arrived at the restaurant to find only a small group at a table and the cooks sitting at a table outside in the back. The same waiter was happy to see us return and welcomed us. We took a table and the other group left immediately, obviously just chatting with the waiter and making the restaurant look busier than it actually was.We were happy enough and the waiter relaxed as we were not his usual customers. He spoke some English and tried his best. He offered us the menus and we had already decided that we were after he litre of house wine at 800 to start the meal off. We confirmed it was Albanian wine and off he went to get the carafe of it from a box in the fridge. I checked the box and it was 'made by Italians' (or words to that effect) with no markings if origin or percent alcohol. It was pleasant enough so we were happy. Speaking with a waiter in another place it may actually had earn Kosovan wine, as the red is usually from Skodra. We asked about the categorisation of fish as I, II or III (decreasing in price) and the waiter said it was indicating the size of fish with I being a whole big fish and less bones overal to handle. We ordered a mix of dishes - a fish soup (200), Risotto with Shrimp II (600), Barbu II (Mullet) 300g (700), Levrek II (Bass) 300g (800), Grilled Vegetables (300) and Large Greek Salad (300). The food came in good time. First off was my friend's fish soup which was quite creamy with tarragon so was tasty, albeit not a big bowl. The main courses then arrived, my friend's shrimp risotto was enormous and had mussels and squid too! We thought they had made a mistake and given the seafood one instead (albeit cheaper at 500). He enjoyed as it was very tasty and he was hungry! Our friend's Bass was actually a big whole fish (a I?) which he enjoyed a lot! My Mullet was a series of small fried fish (more like a III?) which reminded me of a cow shed as it was quite earthy (I have looked it up since and this is apparently so as it is a bottom feeder). It s an acquired taste and the restaurant did a good job cooking them, the taste was just a surprise for me.The roast mixed vegetables were tasty as was the Greek salad, both quite generous. We swapped some of each others' food and agreed in general about the tastes, mine was not popular though as an acquired taste. We finished the meal, wine and bottle of water (200) and ordered the bill which came printed at 4000. On examining it, yes we had been charged for the seafood risotto (cheaper so no complaints there) and others ordered were correct, although I think that basically we got what the had at the end of the day (still no complaints as all good).A group of four guys arrived quite late as we were eating and ordered a big plate of pasta and seafood to share long with a litre of red wine. They seemed to know the waiter and enjoyed the meal. It was nice not to be the only diners in the restaurant. We paid the bill and left a 200 tip as the waiter was friendly and made an effort. We left at 10:35 sated and happy although it was our most expensive meal in Albania so far.

16/9/19We three British middle aged guys had just had a long walk south along the filthy beach, a swim and a litter pick.On watching the sunset and returning back along the beach towards the centre we came across this restaurant as the first built structure by the sea itself. The sun had set but the colours were beautiful so we decided to pop in, find out how much the beers were and maybe stay to relax a bit (and ignore the litter below). There were only two other people in the bar/restaurant as it was just past the local tourist season and a Monday. The very friendly young barman offered us menus but we were not eating. We noticed a half litre of wine for only 400 so decided that was the way to celebrate another multicoloured sunset. The wine was delivered quickly and we talked with the waiter about its origin being from Albania, whilst the whites tended to be from Italy. He was very knowledgeable and keen to show off his English. We sipped the wine, enjoying the post sunset colours and the local music, which were good. There was also another friendly young waiter too.We left happy, leaving a 20 tip which he was pleased with. We went back to our (unlisted) Queen Residence Apartment.

Detari

Reviewed By ChristianP4972

Detari is the only reasonable restaurant in this dreary and rather uninviting holiday town. What is served here is not high cuisine, but perfectly reasonable country cooking, made from good raw material and fresh fish, directly from the harbour (the establishment also has a shop for fresh fish across the street). Don't come here and expect something unusual and imaginative. But in this town, where there's otherwise only hamburgers and pizza, Detari is a very inspiring example. The fish of the day is laid out on an table with ice next to the entrance and the waiters speak enough English to be able to explain what is what. On several visits over a couple of days I tried octopus salad, "mixed fish" as well as mixed salad. The Octopus salad was nominally a starter, but with a very large portion. The octopus was finely cut and marinated in a sauce with oil and tomatoes. It was a very good salad, but a too large portion - I simply couldn't eat all of it. The "mixed fish" was a selection of three different kinds of fish, fried and served with a peppery sauce (somewhat resembling the classic Balkan ajvar). I don't know what kind of fish it was, but at least one was a flat fish resembling sole. The quality of the fish was very good, but the hard frying wasn't really necessary. Fish should be fried on relatively low temperature and it isn't necessary to fry until there is a hard crust on the surface. The cook should learn to experiment with lower temperatures and shorter frying time. The mixed salad was again very large, with perfect, finely cut green salad, excellent tomatoes, cucumber, olives and a variety of other vegetables. The service was very good, attentive and helpful. Wine is only served by the bottle, but it's perfectly free to make a takeaway if you can't drink a whole bottle. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated.

Seeing so many positive reviews, we decided to give Rapsodia a try. I ordered Menu Degustazione - Mi with fish (with 23 small appetizers and 5 dishes). Everything was extremely tasty, the tastes were perfectly combined. The service was very friendly and helpful (very good explanation of the food),including the Chef Fredi. He greeted us friendly and asked if everything was OK. I will highly recommend this Restaurant as well as Kallmeti Wine (everywhere in Albania, it's the best). The only tiny minus thing: timing between the plates. Sometimes I got the other plate without finishing the previous. But it's only an extremely small thing in comparison to the food and service.I will definitely recommend this Restaurant.
