Playa Kai Glamping

Rustic, relaxing & delicious

Reviewed By MaryQ2

So, to be perfectly honest, it was a little more... rustic... than we’re used to & had expected. No wifi, no hot water, but also, no stress ♥️ The only ‘noise’ were the waves crashing into the sand, & the occasional cow. Days were ‘busy’ with rocking in a hammock, drinking cocktails, & enjoying delicious seafood. The menu was dictated by what the fishermen caught that day, & as a result, was exceptionally fresh &, thanks to their chef, exceptionally tasty. The owners & everyone who works there are so so kind & friendly, had there not been a pandemic I would have hugged them all when we left! Know that the shower was a bit like hose-from-wall, & the beds were quite small (my 186cm partner struggled), but in the end that didn’t even matter. This is the ultimate de-stress & disconnect destination. Thank you Playa Kai ♥️

Wonderful & relaxing place!

We loved our stay at Due Amici! It is the perfect place to relax - we stayed 4 nights and really enjoyed the hammocks and the own jacuzzi. Also, Luis (one of the owner) is awesome - very nice, helpful and talkative. He is also an amazing cook which is why we ended up eating at the hostel twice during our stay. I really recommend the hostel.

Rancheria Utta

The best place to stay in Cabo de la Vela

Reviewed By 263astridw

This place is evidently well managed, the staff is great, the food is good, everything is clean, the cabins are nice, they have a fan, just in case, but you don’t really need it. The bathroom has water all day, electricity is limited but through the night. It has a nice view, and you can rest and relax there.

La Casa en el Aire

Paradisíaco, autónomo, y respetuoso con el medio ambiente ♥

Reviewed By nixasierra

You would have to be mad to stay here ,,,,,,, but it may be the best available

The town of Cabo de la Vela is a god forsaken hamlet of shacks strung out along the beach. Although the beach is not wonderful, and suffers from rather toxic jelly fish, the main sport here is kite surfing. Although there are markers to define the kite surfers limits, they ignore them, and swimming was dangerous as they thundered by within a few metres of the shore. Do not bank on getting a safe swim! You would only come here if you were en-route to Punta Gallinas, or if you were kite surfing. We were heading to Punta Gallinas, so had one nights stop here on the way, and another a couple of nights later on the way back. So we experienced one hut at the front, and one at the back - I would advise anyone to ask for a hut at the back, you did at least get a more open (but not in any way scenic) view from the back huts The staff are certainly not friendly (but that may just be their normal attitude). The meals are truly appalling . The generator runs very Catholic hours, and hence there is no water much of the time in the bathrooms - this is a bit daft, as you can easily leave a tap open and it will run for an hour or more if you are not in the hut. We asked for a towel, and it was as if we had made an indecent suggestion. Though we eventually got one, and it was a proper hotel towel with their name on it, so they do have towels. The hut did not have either a chair nor a hammock. We eventually procured both but again with the reaction of it being an unreasonable request. There was a large Venezuelan group staying there the same night, who got up at 5am, and make one heck of a lot of noise. Be warned If you want to see Punta Gallinas, then you probably need to stop at least one night in Cabo de la Vela. I have no idea whether any ot the other accommodations here are any better, certainly, on cursory inspection from the outside, they looked even seedier

In addition to cabanas on the beach, San Sebastian has a great beach bar and restaurant. Perfect for sunsets or drinking a few beers thru the heat of the day, you can get pretty typical foods here from pizza to ceviche to fried fish. Good service from friendly folks.

Welcome to Gilligan's Island - a very rustic hotel with direct access to the beach.

Reviewed By Colombia-road-travel

As a TripAdvisor DESTINATION EXPERT for Colombia with 30 years of visits and now living 4 years in Medellin and exploring just about every city large and small - it is my pleasure to provide this reasoned and accurate review of Cabanas Praba. This was the last stay on our very recent mid November 2020 road trip of the whole coast of Colombia. This is not my first visit to the area but this is my first stay at this hotel. Now just a preface - because we have just finished the 7 month quarantine and lock down here in Colombia because of the pandemic I feel that I must take this into consideration and give some slack as businesses and hotels are just reopening. The setting is perfect as you have direct access to the beach day or night. As the hotels in the whole coast have just reopened, but some have not, there were very few tourists in the town and on the beach. Take a look at my photos and you will clearly see as we had the beach almost all to our-self. Now the room's are VERY VERY RUSTIC and I even felt, as I was lying in the bed of the cabin, that I was in a set of Gilligan's Island (the old TV series). The bathroom is located outside of the room and with no roof so it is different. The cabins are worn and tired and some of the plugs and items needed attention. They need to do better with the maintenance. The reception desk guys were very helpful, friendly and welcoming so I could not say anything but thanks to their receptive welcome. As I believe there were only two cabins with guests it is very quiet. Again they recently reopened and still working out the bugs so to speak so give them credit. Now the beach is absolutely stunning, just look at my photos. It is too bad that the beach keeps getting eroded away because of strong current and waves. I was told that they are losing metes of beach almost each week so something needs to be done. I struggle to give either 3 or 4 stars and have settled into giving them 4 stars and yes I am being generous but I do this for no other reason is that all the business and hotels and restaurants have suffered during the pandemic and so I give them slack. Hopefully they can get things up and running smoothly. Hope this honest and generous review helps in your consideration of where to stay when in Palomino.
