In the Land of the Rising Sun, ancient temples sit alongside neon wonderlands and shinto shrines offer pockets of peace amid metropolises. Add tea ceremonies, snow monkeys, sushi, kimonos, and karaoke to the mix, and you’ve got one of the world’s most fascinating countries.

Grand and classy

Reviewed By Meng San G

This hotel is situated right next to the Hiroshima airport. It does take a little drive to get here. Our GPS lead us up this extremely twisty hill before we got to the hotel. This hotel is very unique in that you actually book the whole chalet/unit. There are only 8? in the whole premises. The chalet is huge and comes with 2 rooms with 4 beds into. There is a grand living room with dinning area and a small kitchen. You can do laundry in the shower room washing machine. The fixtures were new and well maintained. There were thoughtful touches like portable heaters for extra warm should you need it at certain areas. Kettles, cutlery and other kitchen equipment provided so cooking is a possibility. My only gripe is that there is only one toilet. This toilet is located in the right wing of the house. The shower is the left wing. So it would be a 20-30 step shuffle in the cold from one to the other. The lobby is quite grand and has the ornate wood cabin/library with vibe to it. Overlooks the airport and a garden with a small maze and water feature. There is a small Italian restaurant right next to the lobby and would probably be your source of sustenance since there are no stores or restaurants anywhere close to this hotel. We drove 15min to the nearest supermarket to buy supplies. There is supposed to be a convenience store at the airport itself which is probably a good 15-20min walk away. There was a small lake area next to the hotel and a park as well. We had a nice morning walk around the premises. Our house overlooked a small pond and garden as well. You could sit on the balcony and just chill. Overall the house was grand. Classy.

Through my 2 week bike tour through Okinawa i stopped at quiet a few places, but Johnny´s was one of the best! i got a really nice welcome and directly invited to a barbecue with him and another guest and we talked for quiet a bit around the campfire. I got nice tips what to see and where to go next, saw an amazing sky full of stars, and slept the few rest hours of the night very comfortable in one of the containers. if you like friendly nice people, beautiful nature and an outdoor feeling this a very nice place for you :)

Great for families!

Reviewed By Arielflora

I stayed there with my friends and my friend booked the hotel so I have no idea what the price is. I stayed in room 3112 on 29 Dec, 3-5 Dec. Anyway, I will break my review up into pros and cons so that you can read it easily. Pros: -fully furnished cottage (there are pots, pans, microwave, kettle, television, slippers etc.) -comfortable beds (the pillows are made up of beans, I think. It's normal in Japan. Just FYI) -Absolutely breathtaking views! -the bathroom is designed according to a traditional Japanese bathroom so that you can fully enjoy the Japanese bath experience! -there is a convinience store near the cottage so if you are hungry, you may walk to get some food (I'm not sure if its 24/7 though) -5 mins drive away from AEON mall. -courteous staff -wide selection for breakfast (they have salads, pastry, fries, bacon, soup, drinks, cornflakes and fruits) -heater/aircon in the room was easy to use Cons: -television were all in Japanese -there was no wifi in the cottage -the cottage looks old from the outside (but trust me, it's really cozy on the inside) Overall, the stay was really good. I had a great time staying in Cottage Himuka and I would want to come back soon!

If you’re expecting luxury, do not stay here

Reviewed By pablo1216

Let me start off by saying I am not one to write reviews, as a self-proclaimed lazy person. This is probably the second or third time in my life I’ve had to collect the words to help anyone that may want to stay at this establishment. This is a “glamping” place, where supposed glamour and camping come to a pinnacle of outdoor luxury. By all accounts, it was neither glamorous, nor camping. To quickly summarize, if you’re expecting luxury do not stay here. I highly recommend Hoshinoya Fuji if you want real glamping in the Fuji area. Please continue reading for the specific accounts of my experience: • The first red flag was during check-in. As we walk up to our room, we see right in front of the outdoor deck is a 20-foot drop, and all I can say to describe it, is a cesspool with stagnant water, with water trickling into it. This, mind you, is the most expensive “suite” type room, running well over $1,000 USD a night. It’s downright deceitful, and when looking at their website, the picture of this room is taken at an angle that innocently cuts out this area and nowhere is it mentioned. The bathroom area is separated from the bedroom by the outdoor area, which means you need to go outside to go to the bathroom. The cleanliness of the room, furniture and amenities were very subpar. If someone found a hint of luxury, please let me know because I couldn’t find it. • The second is the lack of privacy, and most egregious, the attitude of the staff. Staff members come to your room without any notice and feel they can walk into the site freely. It was shocking. And when we tried to get one to come to our room when we actually needed them, the phone went unanswered. One staff walks into the middle of our BBQ dinner, opened up the grill without asking and says that we still have so much uneaten food and that our 2-hour time to BBQ was up. No one informed us that that a 2-hour BBQ time limit was a rule. He has the audacity to say that we were keeping him from going home! He then goes on to tell us that we aren’t allowed to continue eating and that the food must be thrown out. Some of the food was ordered shortly before he arrived. If we had known the time limit, we would have managed our time. This was unacceptable, so we decide to call the manager, but low and behold, that man was the MANAGER! • The third was the low-quality food. The tomahawk steaks looked cool, but the bite we had a chance to eat before being thrown away was not good. The next morning’s breakfast was something out of an economy class airline. Tasteless spam sandwich and children’s yogurt and apple juice box. Give me a break! In the end, we should have done some more research on this place. The parent company, FUJITA KANKO, runs business hotels, and obviously it is well over its head in this luxury glamping arena. It should stick to business hotels. And that “manager”, should go back to being a camp counselor.

Amazing hidden gem in Nakijin

Reviewed By JewDontKnow

I knew this place was going to be special before I even arrived. I'm not even sure how I found this hidden gem, but intense research off the grid of TripAdvisor found me here. My boyfriend and I spent 1 glorious night at this adorable RV hotel near the beach. I wish I would have stayed longer! The RV was HUGE -- we were in A18 and it was fairly close to the beach. It was extremely clean and the beds were comfortable. It was equipped with a small fridge, sink, table, 2x full size beds, shower, toilet and TV. Each RV has a little porch and sitting area outside too. They have a restaurant, but we opted to order the Mixed BBQ plate which comes with a very generous amount of meats, seafoods and veggies that you grill yourself. They provide a bbq grill and the utensils to grill on the covered patio overlooking the ocean. We chose to do this at sunset around 7pm and it was the most perfect time and meal, accompanied by some beers we purchased from their cafe. After stuffing our faces we visited their onsen bath area -- which was of course separated by mens and women. It was very clean and had great bathing products too. Again, no one was there so we got to enjoy by ourselves. Note -- there were people and a family at the resort at the time but I think this place is a lot more chill and they were sleeping since this bath closes at 10pm. The beach area is GORGEOUS and much more sandy than other beaches I've experienced in Okinawa. It felt like our own private beach, as no one was around. Next door is the "Cafe on the Beach" also just FYI (I saw a lot of good TA reviews!). The pool was great too -- very clean but a little warm temperature. It is pretty shallow so its more suited for children. The location itself is in beautiful Nakajin -- very close drive to the castle ruins and other points of interest such as Emerald Beach or a short drive to Kouri Island. There was a very cute local market too just down the street that we got snacks from. All in all, I hope to come here again and would bring my entire family! It is a great place for young, old, and families.

Good summer resort for small kids as well

Reviewed By Osamu K

Enjoyed summer vacation with a grand daughter. Located at 1300m high so cool and calm. She loved to see many cows, goats, sheep, horses, etc at the Makiba Ranch nearby. Hotel food was excellent with lots of local fresh vesitables. Famous soft ice cream and milk were delicious. Pity not see various cheese at breakfast and dinner time. Room temp. without air conditioning was a litlle bit high at night. Anyway its a good place and want to revisit. Cheers,

Fun and convenient... For a price

Reviewed By Oliverransom

Great family place. "American" camping. They have everything you need... But everything costs. Great activities for the kids. We were there for Easter. Egg hunt, bingo, egg decorating. All the staff have "American" names and a few of them can actually speak English. Pros: They have everything you need to camp. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The store is stocked with everything you forgot to pack. Friendly staff. Pets are welcome. Canoes, paddle boats, activities. A dog run. Lots of fun for the family. We stayed in a "Georgia" cabin for one night and a "Louisiana" cabin for one night. Cons: everything costs. Some cabins have gas grills (gas is extra). Other cabins have charcoal grills (grill screen is extra). Activities cost (from 300¥~¥2000). Crowded (don't expect a tranquil time (but that's normal for Japan)). Really hard to get a reservation. We went in off off season and on a weekday and the place was full. I booked 6 weeks in advance and there was only 2 cabins available.
