Bed Bugs - Stay Away!

Reviewed By ysegev26

Bed Bugs. My girlfriend got stung by bed bugs on the first night. at first, we didn't suspect it was bed bugs. On the third night, we woke up at 4:30 AM and she was stung all over her body. We went down to the reception and talked to the guy who was on night shift. He went up to our room, told us we were lying (although we have photos to prove there were bed bugs), and told us to wait a few hours until the morning because he could not give us another room. I remind you, it was around 5 AM and we had nowhere to go, and he just told us to "wait around a few ours". After a bit more arguing and yelling, he talked to his boss again and magically got us a room - after telling us there were none available. In the morning we went to talk to the manager of the hotel. he again called us liars, although we had proof, and yelled at us. He told us we can't get the money back for the nights we had already spent there, and that he is stopping the conversation. His argument was that he brought an expert which could not find any bed bugs. This expert was conveniently brought there while we were not there, and, if you read for five minutes on the internet, you could easily find that it takes way more than a few hours to catch bed bugs, because it involves laying traps, waiting a few days to see what got caught, and checking for eggs. In short, it was probably a lie told to us in order for the manager to cover his ass. This is the worst treatment we have ever gotten in a hotel. This place refused to take responsibility for being un-sanitary (the bathroom and the room itself reek), and as a result we now have to be on alert for bed bugs in our homes. I strongly recommend you not to come here. Thank you.

Is it a hotel? No. A motel? No. It's a "HO."

Reviewed By aldershot1

One sign on the building calls this place the Ga’aton Motel. Another calls it the Gat’aton Hotel. At night, the part-illuminated sign just says “HO.” It’s more of a “ho” than anything. As in “ho, ho, ho.” Neither a hotel nor a motel. There is no breakfast provided, virtually no “amenities” – we’ll come to that later - and beds like boards. The rooms are small, with inadequate space to store or spread anything out. The cleaner, Mr. Moti's wife, comes in only every few days so expect to have to empty your bins sometimes. The worst aspect is the small broom-cupboard-like space which is a combined shower and toilet, the floor of which is more or less permanently soaked as there is no shower tray. The length of the combined shower and toilet is approx 166 cms. (five feet four inches)with a maximum width of about 77 cms. (two feet five ins) . That’s measured from where the toilet waste pipe comes out of the wall. The usable space is much less as the WC takes up about a third of it. If you are sitting on it, your trouser bottoms getting soaked, your head touches the shower curtain. So, as some of these hostel-like so-called hotels in Israel don’t seem to have grasped the notion that the water from showers can easily be contained in a tray, and drained away without flooding the entire floor, the shower/toilet enclosure is awkward and annoying in the extreme. In our first room the shower drain was not properly designed to facilitate drainage, so we were forever slopping water about. The makeshift solution was to put towels down, one to stop some of the floor flooding and another to stand on to stop some of the water getting on our clothes. You had to get dressed and undressed outside this ridiculous space. Unless you are prepared to buy three expensive meals a day out you need to have some form of cooking facility. There’s a kettle and fridge in the room but that’s about it. There is a sort of communal kitchen. The large, rough-looking fridge is full of junk. Not a fridge as such….(!) There is a microwave, where I managed to make porridge (oatmeal) . But there is zero provision of any cooking utensils. No so much as a plastic spoon or plate, let alone saucepans, knives and forks etc. We were only able to eat here by borrowing bowls, spoons and so forth from our family, who live nearby.Unless you are prepared to fly the Atlantic/Med with a case full of dishes and so on, forget eating at this “ho.” You might not be amused. The two of us paid 280 Shekels a night for a twin-bedded room, about £62 at the rate of exchange we got, or about $78, depending on the rate of exchange. Anywhere in North America or the UK, where we have stayed in many hotels, you would get a reasonable hotel with excellent facilities and breakfast for that. Plus comfortable beds and a proper bathroom, with shower trays. I got up in the early hours one morning to use the toilet, only to find all the power off. The same was true all down our wing. Around 6 am a Hebrew speaking lady got through to the owner, followed his instructions at the Consumer Unit and got the lights back on. They went off again and once more she got them on. When we saw Moti, the owner, that afternoon he had the cheek to ask me what I had been doing to cause the lights to fail! Well, sleeping actually. Of course, this can be seriously disruptive to the electrical system…..The lights also went out the next night. In Israel, which urgently needs some professionally-run American or UK hotel chains to come here and provide a good service with proper, modern facilities, the Motel is relatively inexpensive. Which shows you that in some ways Israel is still a young, developing country with a long way to go.

Yvonne Hostel Sde Boker

Nice but not kore then that

Reviewed By Guy Y

We spent the holiday here for 2 nights. The villa located in the new neighborhood of Sde Boker. Theo owner was accessible when needed however we were surprise from the low maintenance of the villa . For the price we paid we would expect to see much more in terms of facility. No landscape with lots of dirty all around. The villa include basement with separate entrance. The owner rent it so be aware as sometimes you might find yourself surrounded with others in the villa. The villa includes all the facilities including dishwasher , cable and WiFi. In 2 miles radius you can find some nice hikes (Ein Ovdat/Havarim river) but best you go to Tamar river hike. To sum up - we would expect to get much more clean and maintained place for the price we paid so think twice if you decide to come here. The Sde Boker is amazing place tough !!
