Imerovigli Villas | Places to Stay in Imerovigli

Imerovigli looks exactly as a Santorini village should: iconic whitewashed buildings with sapphire domes, narrow crisscrossing walking paths, epic sunsets. Set sail on a guided boat tour of nearby volcanic features or spend the day exploring the remains of Skaros, a 13th-century Venetian palace. Cap it all off with a simple but decadent meal of local delicacies.

Amber Light Luxury Villas

Tranquil but isolated (and expensive) for non-drivers

Reviewed By theplanetneptune

There’s a lot that’s good about Amber Lights. Our room was beautiful. It was bright, spacious — cavernous, even — with a sitting area and a cool, cosy bathroom with a large shower practically hewn from the rocks. Our room had a terrace with a small pool and loungers, so we spent nearly all our time there relaxing and looking out across spectacular views of the Aegean and Anafi and watching the planes come and go from the airport. While you get the caldera views in Imerovigili and Fira, you absolutely do not get the same level of privacy that Amber Lights offers. The staff, particularly the front-of-house staff, were attentive, very friendly, and eager to help, and through them we organised an excellent tour of the island with bona fide native Santorinians. If you’re visiting Santorini for complete and utter tranquility, Amber Lights is perfect. It is extremely quiet, and you’re unlikely to see or hear anyone during the day except at breakfast and dinner. Many times it felt less like a hotel and more like a health retreat. But it is quiet largely because it is so isolated, at least in Santorinian terms. If you’re staying at Amber Lights, rent a vehicle. While it’s theoretically possible to walk to nearby Imerovigili, the road there is uphill and dangerous, and the alternative walking route Google Maps suggests is currently impassable due to construction. While the hotel will happily arrange taxi transportation to Imerovigili, it costs a flat €15 to go the 3km, and transfers to Oia and Perissa, for example, are much more expensive (€40 each way). Whatever shuttle bus used to operate from the hotel is not in service, which is a real shame and effectively strands non-drivers who are on a tighter budget or unwilling to brave the local roads (and I don’t blame you). Breakfast was decent and certainly healthier and less stodgy than some other Santorini hotels, but dinner from the restaurant (which was closed until our third day) was fairly average and mostly overpriced. To arrange our mealtime and desired courses, we needed to call reception in advance. It wasn’t possible simply to show up at 7 or 8pm and just order at the table, which was odd. There was also no separate lunch menu. While Amber Lights does partner with an Imerovigili-based takeaway restaurant, getting sandwiches in a plastic bag from a delivery driver doesn’t make for a luxury hotel experience, especially when you’re paying almost one and a half thousand euros for the privilege. What the hotel really could do with is a small shop or kiosk — something that sells bottles of water, beer, and snacks. While our room came with a very well-stocked mini-fridge, the markup was by any standard heinous (e.g, €2 per coffee capsule, €4.50 for a bar of chocolate), and we bought many of the same things for a fraction of the price in Imerovigili and, ironically, from Amber Lights’ takeaway partner. We also struggled with internet speeds for the duration of our stay, and on one evening the entire hotel had a 12-hour outage. Sluggish WiFi isn’t really a problem if you’re out exploring — and I hate to sound like a net-addicted Millennial — but if you’re planning on spending most of your time by the pool listening to podcasts or watching something, it limits the experience. There’s a lot to recommend at Amber Lights — the peace and quiet, the views, the private terraces with pools and hot tubs. However, the transportation issues, the odd lunch and dinner setup, and a few other noticeable issues mean that it doesn’t quite fit its luxury billing, especially given the price.

Simply amazing location and views across the Caldera and the sunset each night. We were in room 9 with a hot tub - great for relaxing in after a days sightseeing and watching the world go by. Rooms are clean and spacious, bed was comfy. Georgia and the team were super helpful. Would 100% recommend!

Beautiful apartments. Immaculately clean, service was brilliant and breakfast was great. The views speak for themselves, and only about 5 min walk from the local amenities. The staff were really friendly and couldn’t go enough for you. And bonus is that the reception sells beers. absolutely loved it and would definitely go back here again.

Belle Etoile Villas is a newly built hotel, situated on the east side of the island. It has been built with a lot of hard work and good workmanship. With view looking out on the blue waters of the Aegean Sea and the islands of Anafi, Anidros and Amorgos. Situated on a quiet area which is available for deep concentration and serenity, it invites guests to experience moments of utter relaxation.

The most amazing stay and the best hosts!

I booked the Belle Etoile back in 2019 in readiness for my wedding in 2020. I booked out the whole hotel to ensure that I could have all my family out there with me and we could enjoy all the facilities without having to share! Almost like a home from home. My wedding was postponed due to the pandemic and while that was of course devastating - Avgi had no problem with me postponing at all and found a week for me that would work. When I told her I had to postpone again, she did the same thing. It was no problem for her at all. I think that is the most important thing to say here... nothing is a problem for Avgi or her sister Bella. Nothing is an issue and there isn't anything that they can't fix or find a solution for. We were a group of 25 people and while the hotel wasn't at full capacity with us all there - we'd taken over all the rooms and we were everywhere. Lots of requests and demands from all over the place, usually fielded through me but Avgi would just get on and get it sorted. So to start with - their service is fantastic and their support for me was second to none. I could not have asked for more from them and even if I had - it wouldn't have mattered as Avgi or Bella would have found a way of making that request come true. I would say... they help to make dreams come true. Now onto the hotel itself. It's a beautiful boutique hotel with ten rooms. Each one is unique and slightly different. I personally stayed in the honeymoon suite which was amazing. I have one TINY request and that would just to be to have a chest of drawers as I like be able to put all my things into drawers BUT let me make this really clear, that's a personal preference. There was so much space in the room as well. My room was a secluded space away from the main hotel and it had a hot tub. Fantastic view from the hot tub. They provided robes, fresh towels, slippers, toiletries, the mini bar was stocked, they had little extra 'Santorini' nibbles as well in each of the room. My room came with an iron and ironing board, hair dryer, massive dresser and mirror as well as a really big bathroom with waterfall shower and standard shower head. The bed was huge and SO comfortable. I'm also pregnant, Avgi actually went out and got me a pregnancy pillow to ensure that I slept properly. The other rooms all are equipped with kitchens, microwaves, fridges, some of the rooms have irons but you can request this from the reception as well. The A/C can also switch to heating which was needed on a couple of nights because we went out in early May, that meant the evenings were a little chilly. My parents and my sister's family stayed in the superior suites down at the bottom of the hotel. They both have hot tubs too and are lovely rooms - really spacious. I feel like the Belle Etoile was the best choice for me as I had guests that required disabled access and most of the hotels in Santorini aren't designed for this. The Belle Etoile is one of the few that has a ramp, that has rooms with a view that don't require you to climb a lot of stairs and walk in/wet room showers. This was exactly what I needed for my grandparents and sister in law. Breakfast for such a large group was being served in the bar area but for these guests - the hotel took charge and ensured that the breakfast was served in the rooms to make the whole experience enjoyable. For everyone else, breakfast was served in the bar and it was done by everyone picking what they wanted off a menu the night before and then served at an allotted time. I'm going to be honest - every day we chopped and changed and decided we wanted different things and Irene, Avgi and Bella just went with it. You can order as much of everything as you like! For my events that were held at the Belle Etoile - both Avgi and Bella were amazing at helping ensure everything went well and supported us in achieving the look and feel that we wanted. I was a little disappointed with my wedding planner that day and I think both Avgi and Bella could tell so they really stepped up and took charge. The pool was a little cold for us but I honestly think that is just because of the time of year, my husband did jump in though and get one dip in! It's a good sized pool and there's lots of lounging space. Avgi helped us organise tours, car hire, massages (I'd give the guy who did mine a 15/10). She organised a private tour for my husband and I, making us our own pack up with homecooked food and she came with us as well to make sure that we were shown extra 'local' places. I did cannot thank Avgi and Bella and all the staff at the hotel enough. They did everything I asked for and more and if I'd asked for more - they still would have done it. Anyone who would want to complain about this hotel - I don't understand you, I would keep on coming back to them and I'd highly recommend them to anyone who wanted to stay somewhere that felt like they were at home, home with the most stunning views. I have a couple of recommendations and that's again because of the time of year that we stayed. in the bar area, if there could be a little more outdoor heating just to take the early morning chill off while everyone eats breakfast OR blankets that can be used, just in case people don't realise that the island can get quite windy. I'm trying to think what else - there is car parking , kettles, a fully stocked mini bar, fresh cooked bar food, drinks at the bar and so much more in such a small boutique hotel. It's a gem.. which I hope lots more people get to discover. If I could give 10 stars then I would.

Brilliant for family Holidays

We stayed there for 5 nights first week of July 2021. Owner Kostos has been very helpful. You can’t find anyone else providing better service. He responds to your calls even if its mid night with a big smile. Provided us all the information we needed. This hotel is ideal for families as you don’t have too many stairs. View is great and I’ll totally recommend it!!! Couple of things to consider though; although breakfast is included but you’ll have to make it yourself. They did provide us the vegetarian breakfast almost every day but they might not offer it to every guest. Anyone over 6 foot 3 inch has to watchout his head on the sides of room. Overall brilliant experience and great service by Kostos.
