We really enjoyed our dinner at Maki Marina. The food was so beautifully served and incredibly tasty. Two of us four eat vegan and we were happy to see that there was a whole section of vegan dishes to choose from, and so creative also. Sometimes vegan sushi can be a bit simple but this was very high class. Also the service was very kind and attentive, meeting our every wish. We will definitely come again!Dear BoemMK,I am very glad that we were able to satisfy the vegan needs of two of your party. We are constantly exploring ways to enhance our vegan option with exotic dishes. It is a pleasure to read that you have found our food to be “beautifully served” and “incredibly tasty”. I look forward to hosting you again soon. Best Regards Joe Hajjali

The restaurants in Kuwait may serve really good food, but the majority of them lack any sort of atmosphere. Va Boca is a delightful change. Just off Restaurant Street in Salmiya (turn right between Toot & MIsh(2) and Steek) the restaurant is new, and a lovely surprise upon entering. Decorated inside with stone, and following a Macedonian motif, the small space (about 8 tables) is warm, friendly, and inviting. We arrived as a large group of 12, and the staff hastily accommodated us by emptying the rest of the restaurant of tables. We had the privilege of being there with a couple from Croatia, so we were steered toward the truly 'Balkan' food. Some of us ordered Bourek, a meat or cheese pie with phyllo pastry which was freshly made and delish. There was more than enough for all 12 of us to have a piece as an appetizer. The restaurant also gave us a lovely cheese/spinach pastry "on the house" to try. It was also lovely.Everyone ordered something ethnic, and without exception, the food was excellent. Freshly made to order, the portions were generous, and the ingredients fresh. We had a little fun when some of the diners tried out the grilled jalapenos after being told they were sweet green peppers, "specially from my place." The value was also exceptional. Prices are great, and the staff were willing to accommodate several picky eaters without difficulty.Where things could be a bit better is in the service. To be fair, the staff were overwhelmed by the size of our group, and did the best they could, but the time management of the order was a bit off, and some of us waited for almost 30 minutes for our food after everyone else was eating. This would not stop us from going back, and we will certainly do so as a couple, expecting that service will not be a problem for smaller tables. All in all, impressive.
