We didn’t want to leave!

Reviewed By ModernWanderers

A cute little hotel with an absolutely to-die-for atmosphere. An incredibly busy restaurant too, populated even by those not staying at the hotel. We ate dinner here on both nights and the food was excellent. Breakfast (not included in the room rate, though we accidentally thought it was) was simple, if not plentiful — and served in the fresh air, right on the beach! The housekeeping staff were quick and very thorough. Shower was hot and the pressure was good. Air-conditioning was also good and the mosquito net over the bed absolutely necessary — we got eaten alive by mozzies whilst eating dinner on our first night :( Any negatives? (1) You will be constantly hassled by hawkers who troll the beach but don’t (generally) come onto the property. They are selling everything from cloth to sunglasses to peanuts to inflatable bouncy balls and bikinis (and everything in between). (2) I can see in other reviews people complaining that nobody speaks any English at this hotel. That shouldn’t be an issue, as I don’t believe it is the duty of the staff to learn another language, considering the number of different nationalities that must come in here all the time. That being said, I don’t speak a word of French (though do try!) and the staff were still very polite, friendly and accommodating. They were never short of a smile and hand gestures went a long way. (3) If you plan to have dinner here on a Sunday night, be warned the kitchen may have run out of certain items (for us it was chicken) due to the VERY busy (mostly Ivorian) lunch crowd on the same day. (it was quiet as a mouse and we basically had the place to ourselves on the Sunday night and Monday morning) We only stayed for two nights but I could’ve easily hung here for a week, watching the local children play in the water, the horses gallop along the beach, and the surfers tackle the big waves. Definitely a fabulous gem, slightly off the beaten path. (Note that the hotel’s limited lounge chairs on the beach can get snapped up very quickly. We noticed that some people were saving seats by putting towels on them and even though we waited for a couple of hours, they never used the chairs. A tad bit frustrating. Also note that only half the chairs are adjustable. Otherwise you have to lie flat on them.)

Vacationing with my family from london, we decided to have a beach day after few days in abidjan. we just tried the restaurant and we cannot comment on the hotel. Lunch was actually very good of not cheap at all. we spent £100 us two adults and two toddlers. i would like to say hi to the owner though, a french lady from St.Tropez that has italian heritage and nor far from i am from, Turin. Ivory Coast a complicated place. wherever you move you are asked for bakshees which is awful. not here though.

Awesome paella

Reviewed By ashika c

I was at the hotel restaurant la playa for the morning. We had a great time swimming in the salt water pool. The place was clean and the service was good. Staff were attentive for most of the part. They came to take orders as we arrived and enjoying the view of the ocean. I was hoping that they would have fresh coconut juice served in a coconut but alas they didn't. However, I would not discount them for that. We ordered paella. It was quite a wait but...it was indeed worth the wait. It came in the authentic paella pan. I was glad that I shared mine as the portions were huge. They were very generous with the shrimps and the calamari. They had 2 mussels on it but that's ok as the shrimps and calamari more than made up for what was lacking. In short, the paella was indeed divine. I could not have gotten in any better.

Watch the bar carefully

Reviewed By Sawmillbloke

I dont know if the hotel management are aware of this but the bar is cheating on the drinks, watering down the fruit juices considerably, and pocketing the extra money. At the weekend they charged me 5000 fcfa for a pineapple fruit juice that was mostly water, and i saw them do it. I hope they can explain this to their management. Be aware, what a pity to have to report this. I left the evidence at their reception as they seemed busy with another complaint.

Deceiving

Reviewed By nanous527

Bad experience overall. Service was crazy long, room was not maintained, food was disgusting. I was not amazed by the quality of this hotel; I do not recommend it: We did not have hot water; the pool was dirty; and when we shared our concerns, they did not do anything and we left in advance, they still charged our credit card. We do not recommend this place; we recomand assoyam instead if you trying to find a great spot in Bassam
